NFT: Knicks vs Clippers

TyreeHelmet : 11/20/2017 3:30 pm
Gameday for the Knicks. Looking for a big bounce back off Friday night's loss. I'm also attending my first game this year and really pumped to see this team in person.

-Hardaway is questionable for tonight. Hopefully he takes the necessary time to get that foot healed up. Don't want that to become a lingering issue.
- Beverly returns for the Clippers tonight. Will be a great test for Frank.
- Hoping to see KP get going tonight. I assumed Griffin will guard him and KP has a good 4-5 inches on him easily.
- Clippers are desperate for a win. They have lost 8 straight.
- No Gallo tonight- still out with an injury. But that's par for the course fir Danilo at this point. Good player but just can't stay on the court.

Burn the tape.
Frank's "under the weather," according to Hornacek.

Explains his sluggishness.
I thought it would be almost half a season before we got our 9th win.

To me, Kanter and McDermott are both keepers. If we eat Noah's contract we could do that, right?

McBuckets yes. I'm still not ready to pay Kanter 20 MM per year.
Knicks. Most home wins this year

But John, who else would provide us with that presence inside,

Agree with Jon.
bceagle05 : 11/20/2017 10:34 pm : link
Kanter's easy to like but would command too big a contract for my liking. If I had to choose between Kanter or Dougie, I'd take Dougie every time. You might be able to lock in KOQ and Dougie for only slightly more than Kanter would command.
gotta love Lance:

15 mins, 1-6 from the field, 4 fouls and....you'll never guess...ONE REBOUND!
I can't believe someone thought it was a good idea to pay lance thomas

KOQ's JAG. He's not a starting C on any team,
yatqb : 11/20/2017 10:40 pm : link
let alone one with playoff aspirations. So who plays the 5 without Kanter? Not KP, who'd a great stretch 4 and should stay there, imo.
Thunder lose in New Orleans.

Yeah, I really don't care if KOQ stays or goes.
bceagle05 : 11/20/2017 10:46 pm : link
I see KP, Frank, Timmy and Dougie as part of the core going forward, with hopefully Dotson and/or Willy finding roles, too. I'm aware we're creating a huge hole inside if Kanter did leave, but I'd rather take my chances finding a rebounding/defense big in the draft. I have a feeling we'll be less enthusiastic about Kanter after we see 82 games of him, but so far so good.

I'm OK with "wait and see". But the guy has done a lot more than I expected of him...I expected the rebounding and inside offense, but I also like his toughness and team first attitude.

Jon, that's a thought, but Willy will never be the physical presence
yatqb : 11/20/2017 10:55 pm : link
that Kanter is. That said, if he can provide the offense and rebounding that Kanter does, for a lot cheaper, it IS an option.
Looks like Boston is gonna escape Dallas with an OT win.

Stevens is some coach...12 new players on the roster

and they play great team ball at both ends, particularly on defense.

came out sluggish but it was nice to see them put the clippers away in the 3rd...

clippers are going to be blown up soon, expect deandre to get traded at thr deadline and what a bust gallinari has been for them so far, he can not stay healthy
Begley has a good article about how the Knicks are
Heisenberg : 11/21/2017 8:14 am : link
coherent and the pieces are fitting.

Quote:
"One thing about this team, everybody knows what they're going to do, everybody knows his role," Kanter said. "We're just going out, playing basketball and having fun."

Yes, for one night, all of the pieces fit perfectly for the Knicks. It won't always be this easy, of course. But you can be sure that Perry and Mills, who sit in the arena seats once occupied by Phil Jackson, left the Garden feeling good about what they saw on Monday.

The Knicks problems this year will be when they simply aren't as talented as the team they face and also games where they fail to execute. But the team makes sense this year and that is progress in and of itself.

And there is a bit in there mentioning McDermott's moving off the ball. He is very good at that and actually is also good at chasing the guys he's guarding when they're moving off the ball. I really like what he brings to the team.

Nice seeing Doc Rivers lose at the Garden for a change.
GiantsUA : 11/21/2017 8:15 am : link
This game was not a work of art, turnovers, missed bunny shots, well at least the Knicks got a 20+ point win.

According to MSG (if I heard correctly)- 3rd 20+ point win this season, last year 0)
I think hitching our wagon to Mcbuckets and Kanter
Stu11 : 11/21/2017 8:19 am : link
has a lot to do with Frank's development and whether or not Kanter opts out. If Frank develops into a key starter piece(which I'm encouraged he can) then they fit around KP and him very well. If Kanter opts in for next year which he very well could making 18 mill then we'd have a good idea of where Frank is by the end of next season and decide what to do going forward. Who knows maybe in the off season heading into 2019-20 we can do something with Noah's deal seeing as he'll be heading into the final season of it.
Frank has been in a fog since the Cavs game

This team
ajr2456 : 11/21/2017 10:01 am : link
Is good enough to beat the teams they should beat, and blow them out, and will be inconsistent vs good teams.

If they can learn to win on the road, playoffs is very possible.

Only teams not in a playoff spot I can see turning it around are Milwaukee, Orlando and maybe Charlotte.
next two games will be interesting indicators -
Del Shofner : 11/21/2017 10:05 am : link
tomorrow, can the Knicks at least compete with Toronto at home after being blown out up there? And on Friday, can we get a road win against a struggling team in Atlanta?

Two W's in these games would look very nice, a split wouldn't be a disaster, two L's would be a bad sign.

love Frank defensively but he's really played poorly offensively recently and I think it helps the narrative that simply throwing him out there as the starting PG would have been a disaster.

mfsd : 11/21/2017 10:16 am : link
But that aside...as much as he’s a natural on the defensive end, his instincts on offense have a long way to go
goes without saying
Enzo : 11/21/2017 10:17 am : link
but THANK GOD we didn't end up with Austin Rivers as part of a return for Melo.
Frank clearly
Enzo : 11/21/2017 10:21 am : link
needs a lot of work to even be a decent offensive player. The upside is that his size and versatility theoretically should allow you all kinds of flexibility when it comes to backcourt mates. Yes you can obviously pair him with a traditional shooting guard, but I think you could also have him back there with a smaller "lead guard" type (e.g. Lowry, Kemba) since Frank has the size to guard opposing shooting guards...and he should end up a good enough shooter to play him off the ball.

There's some raw material there. I liked that he made an effort to get aggressive and attack, it just wasn't rewarded because Griffin played it well and Drew a foul.
But yeah, he can't start yet.
I feel pretty good that Frank is smart enough a player to figure out
Heisenberg : 11/21/2017 10:28 am : link
the offensive side of the ball. He may (probably, even) never be a real scoring threat but I think he will at least be an average scorer and that, with his passing and excellent defense, will be a good NBA player.
I think they need to be
Enzo : 11/21/2017 10:29 am : link
careful with Jack's minutes going forward. Might not be a bad idea to sit him for half of back-to-backs and just go with Sessions. Our PG situation is a house of cards right now. This isn't to maximize his health for a playoff run that likely won't ever happen...it's to try and avoid a long absence due to injury which would likely send this team into a prolonged slump.
Again
DanMetroMan : 11/21/2017 11:57 am : link
not looking to shit on Frank at all but it goes beyond beyond sick the last few days. Last 5 games 29% from the field, 16% from 1.8 assists per game. I think it's fair to point out poor play without it being more than it is. My only point was he's not NBA ready to run an offense for 25-30 minutes per night. He's just not.
It looks like a confidence issue with Frank.
Keith : 11/21/2017 12:01 pm : link
His shot looks good, but he's very reluctant. I think there is also a lot of room to grow in regards to close range shots. He's very long and once he learns how to use that, he will get easy buckets on drives. Gonna take some time though.
How good can this team be?
Keith : 11/21/2017 12:03 pm : link
Assuming health, I think this team can be a 4-6 seed team. If we battle some injuries, maybe a 6-8 seed team.

We are a superstar PG away from being great. Not sure Ntilikina can be that guy(odds are against it for sure), but sub Jack for a superstar distributing PG and we are one of hte best in the east.
Also,
Keith : 11/21/2017 12:05 pm : link
no decision needs to be made now, but as of now, Kanter isn't going anywhere. I'd prefer to pay him than to trade him or let him walk. Perfect compliment to KP and the type of guy you want on your team. Always plays 100% and busts his a** running the floor all night long. Beast on the boards, can score in the paint and he's getting better defensively. Love Kanter and what he's meant to this team.
The Knicks are probably only a 4-6 seed if they
Heisenberg : 11/21/2017 12:06 pm : link
can somehow continue to play 2/3 of their games at the Garden.
