John Elway has been a poor Exec with zero process outside of signing big name FAs (Manning, Ware, Talib).
For a former QB, his feel for evaluating the position has been a complete failure. They drafted Osweiler; they were willing to pay a fortune to keep Osweiler post-Peyton; Kubiak briefly kept them viable with Siemien; they drafted Lynch in the 1st round (ahead of Dak Prescott); they brought back Brock.
Thrill Ride's bottom line: remember this any time someone foolishly suggests hiring an ex-player / long-retired ex-coach / media presence. Running a football organization is a complicated job and it's best left to the Football/Biz lifers that climb the ladder and earn the promotion through results.

And got a Super Bowl with PM. This is what happens to a fan base after you sell your soul.
I'm still loving the Giants victory started this Broncos merchandise already on clearance at Walmart run. The whole week leading up to that game the all Broncos sports radio here in Denver was deciding if they would break 100 points in the game or if they'd be classy and keep it under 85.
A phenomenal job of stacking that team with talent since he got there. Just doesn't have a qb which even the best GMs have trouble finding. A qb is EVERYTHING. Even affects the morale and effort of the defense when they know they'll be on the field all game because the offense cant sustain drives.
Somfans have very short attention
Also Elway is 1 year removed from Super Bowl win.. Â
nobody was calling for Reese to be fired in 2013.. Its now 2017.. we have the same problems since 2012.. If Elway is having OL issues and draft issues in 2021.. then it would be similar...
So many people try to pretend that every NFL teams have this problem and that its ok.. We have a franchise QB in his prime and we are like 8-10 games below .500 in the last 6 years with only one playoff appearance.. I don't know of any team that fits this description.. Yes Elway has muffed some picks but he also doesn't have a startable qb.. we have a HoF qb..
very whiny . Sort of like Steelers Nation. They have an undeserved reputation of being positive , all-in loyalists . One lousy season , they shit their pants .
Elway is very talented . He's aggressive as well. He fanned on Lynch, apparently . They have to address QB, a putrid oline & perhaps figure out why such an awesome secondary has, like, four interceptions total this time of year .
correctly, wasn't word out of Denver that Chad Kelly was actually the best of the bunch at QB? I know he hurt his wrist and is on IR, but I thought he was actually the new heir apparent up there.
RE: I'm going to hammer the Billy Price in the 2nd drum Â
For the rest of the year. Alex Mack transformed that Falcons line. A great center would really help this team.
I agree you know the Giants weren’t shit in the 80’s until they got Center BART Oates from USFL and then later drafted Brian Williams with a number 1 draft choice I believe......the QB is the boss and the center is the underboss ,people don’t realize how important a good center is ask Terry Bradshaw

Excellent analysis. Hope all is well with the Thrill Ride. Have a great Thanksgiving and holiday season.

The one thing you have to give him props for are they way he structures deals. They are very team friendly, and give the team outs.
Over the last 10 years (not counting this one), the Broncos have had only 2 losing seasons. The 2013 season resulted in a Super Bowl loss, while the 2015 season resulted in a Super Bowl victory. They very consistently put a good product on the field.
As for Elway's drafting, he has had hits and misses. He took over player personnel in 2011 and GM in 2012. I think the article is garbage and is missing a lot of good draft picks. They got a lot of production from the 2011 and 2012 drafts. The 2013 draft was terrible. But they still have players from the drafts that followed. There are also players that may no longer be on the team, but are still in the NFL. See for yourself: http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?teamId=1400&type=team
Elway has done a poor job drafting quarterbacks. I think he is placing too much weight on quarterback height. Brock Osweiler, a second round pick, and Paxton Lynch, a first round pick, are both 6'7". If I recall correctly, the Broncos moved up in the draft to get both of them. I am not counting the two quarterbacks selected in the 7th round in this discussion. Elway is listed as 6'3". He probably remembers seeing over the offensive and defensive lines as being his biggest challenge. So he weighs height more than other teams when setting his draft board. But it takes more than height to make it in the NFL. Some of the tallest QB's have not done well at all in the NFL, while some of the shortest have excelled: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2015/11/18/nfl-quarterbacks-does-height-matter/76023390/
is being able to court and sign free agents. And because of that skill, Elway was able to snatch up Manning, and took a big risk because the status of the arm/neck was uncertain, and bring Denver two SB appearances and a SB win. He deserves credit for keeping that franchise relevant.
Signing guys like TJ Ward, Emmanuel Sanders, DeMarcus Ware, Talib, etc were pretty damn smart moves...

There’s no guarantee he’ll be there in the 2nd. The Giants need to seriously consider some of the FA centers and go from there.

That and defensive lineman are becoming more athletic and more explosive and the characteristics of offensive lineman really haven't changed.
Part of me thinks the issue might be that offensive lineman need to get leaner, quicker and more athletic else you'll keep having this problem.

Offensive lineman are getting harder and harder to draft. Just a part of modern day NFL.
