I think the CBA is to blame

I Love Clams Casino : 11/21/2017 3:00 pm
The Giants don't know how to prepare for the season. Other teams know how to prepare and have their team's ready for opening day - By the time the Giants were ready to play the opening game, it was game 4, and the Giants were playing at game 1 speed and readiness...

Why, during the pre-season are other teams running complicated schemes, trap blocks, blitzes etc, and the Giants are running a basic offense and defense. The Patriots do it do, but I think the Patriots do it to hide their schemes, and the Giants just ain't ready yet.
Disagree

A lot of what your describing the giants do in the ore season is common. Running bland and vanilla schemes and plays is very common. The bottom line is talent. Also the coach. Imagine what Sully might be accomplishing had he been able to call Offense with a compliment of receivers.
You make no sense, boy.

No, alot of teams don't

run complicated stuff during the pre season.

Yes, the new CBA rules have changed how teams prepare A TON. Some teams have adjusted. Maybe the Giants haven't, I'm not sure that is the main cause of our ills.
What was the excuse than prior to this CBA

when we would start 6-2 and fall apart the second half?
We didn't have a ton of starters playing in the preseason
BigBlueDownTheShore : 11/21/2017 3:42 pm : link
due to injury. Brandon Marshall, and OBJ were hurt. They never had a chance to gel as a unit and it showed the first 2 weeks. We were starting to show some life offensively and then all our WRs were knocked out.

The rust from not playing as a unit because of fear of injury was definitely a problem.

Not trying to establish the run in the beginning of the season was another problem.

I think if we were healthy offensively right now, we would actually be scoring a ton more, but we are not.
I tend to agree....

the Giants looked in no way ready to open the season versus Dallas.

When I see Eli shying away from throwing Brandon Marshall a jump ball in the endzone, 1-1, something isn't right.

Could you make a case for the Giants not practicing correctly, or adapting to what their players need to get ready. I think you could.

Agreed.

But how do they practice.

Giants looked woefully unprepared this year.

according to Mac, we would be in first place if practices counted.....

I agree we stunk up the joint on offense the first game, because this team was not ready to play without OBj, even though we had weeks to prepare for it.....add to that an OL that flat out sucked all through preseason, and yet the Hart and Jerry show was still intact....
Eli needs more reps in the preseason
NikkiMac : 11/21/2017 4:59 pm : link
just like Phil Simms did and this season especially what with 2 new TE and B Marshall and an offensive line that needed more reps ..... play the starters when you hold people back that’s like playing scared not to lose ..... I’ve never been a fan of this holding your star players out
.......

The CBA presents the same limitations to other teams preparation as well, but they aren't as bad as the Giants
If the premises of the OP are all valid
Gregorio : 11/21/2017 6:51 pm : link
then the coaches are to blame for not getting the team prepared. 31 other teams had the same exact amount of time to prepare for the season as the Giants.

I am no fan of the CBA limits on practice time, but let's call a spade a spade.
I posted about this in week two
Frank from CA : 11/21/2017 7:40 pm : link
The Staff did not have the team ready for the season while other teams were ready given the same CBA restrictions. In addition to better scouts our coaching staff needs to be able to prepare a team during the pre season under the given rules. What a waste of a season wishfully thinking that the O Line was adequate.
if it still were Coughlin coaching

I would say yes.

Our defense looked like they would only allow six points a game during the preseason the offense was as usual not doing or looking good. The defense let us down no excuses the offense was non existent and once OBJ was gone the idea about winning was gone also.
Browns probably run a complex offense in preseason.
Ivan15 : 11/22/2017 9:26 am : link
Let’s follow that model of success.

It's not a suggestion to just "do what other teams do"...It's a suggestion that the CBA limits the preparation time teams have, and other teams seem to have worked this out while the Giants look woefully unprepared. I think if the season for the Giants began in week 3 or 4, the Giants would be in the hunt for a playoff spot.....I refuse to believe this team is that bad.
This has been discussed many times since the CBA went into effect

There's no doubt the heavily reduced practice time, and less time actually HITTING, as adversely affected the quality of football in the NFL.

Players wanted it, owners agreed. It needs to go back in the old direction to some extent as football is a sport that requires a ton of practice time for precision. But, they've let more than one genie out of the bottle in recent years.
