What is the flat earther answer
widmerseyebrow : 11/21/2017 7:38 pm : link
When you ask them what happens if you keep flying east? Where's the edge?
I want to send him a letter
Sarcastic Sam : 11/21/2017 7:38 pm : link
that a $120 flight will get him 25 times higher than his homemade rocket, with far less chance of killing him (unless he flies Spirit).

But I don't have any stamps.

Their story: the earth is a disk and the edge is surrounded by giant icepack which keeps the oceans from spilling over the edge. No one has been past this point, so what’s beyond is unknown.

Oh no... so global warming is going to drain the oceans!!!

I thought everyone knew the earth was flat, duh
02/03/2008 : 11/21/2017 8:08 pm : link
Seriously, there are people that believe the earth is flat?
I find it hard to believe he is smart enough to actually build a rocket, that could get him off the ground.
I’m guessing this guy isn’t really a flat earther
Jim in Fairfax : 11/21/2017 9:05 pm : link
He’s been dabbling in homemade rockets for many years, but just became a flat earth convert last year. Coincidentally, that’s when he found that his Kickstarter campaign to fund this rocket was getting him no money. He then starts pushing his campaign as a way to prove the earth flat.

the wacky conspiracy theorists are going to be out in full force.
I shudder to ask, but ...
FStubbs : 11/22/2017 6:59 am : link
... how do they explain mileages? With that disc, wouldn't someone notice that it takes a lot longer to fly around the world going west -> east from Sao Paolo than it does from New York? Or are all the pilots and air traffic controllers in on the conspiracy?

The ice is superdense. Relativity applies, relatively.

I think 'Flat Earthers' are crazy, but this is a strange video on Southern Hemisphere flight patterns.

My guess on how this goes
Pete in 'Vliet : 11/22/2017 7:28 am : link
He takes off and land safely, but only gets to the lower levels of our atmosphere where the curvature isn't obvious. He then lies about how high he made it and claims a victory for flat earthers.

Best of luck there limo driver who couldn't quite get into NASA to get down the ins and outs of rocket science. But you don't really need to understand things to take action! Stupid round Earth conspiracy scientists, prepare to be put to shame.

is WHY the worldwide discal coverup. At least the JFK or 911 conspiracies have the some kind of political motivation behind the coverup.

Why do flat earth people think we're being lied to? It's an impressive amount of energy to spend.

What is the motivation of the man behind the curtain?

They are mental cases, rationality and logic need not apply.

The topic is fascinating to me. I believe, in some cases, there are serious religious undertones. Still others claim that there are undiscovered (by us) continents on the other side of the 'ice wall'. Amazing.
I love the this line from the article:

“We were kind of looking for new sponsors for this. And I’m a believer in the flat Earth,” Hughes said. “I researched it for several months.”.

Get the popcorn, this is gonna be good.

Woahh
So how does it work then with sunrises and sunsets?
Del Shofner : 11/22/2017 9:50 am : link
I guess the sun is revolving around the disc? It's counterintuitive unless you also don't believe in gravity, since a disc would be a lot different than a sphere gravity-wise. Also, forget the ice at the edges - what happens when you go down and dig through the disc? What's on the other side?

This quote perfectly summarizes it. The conspiracy theorists will refute anything. It can be raining outside, and while standing in rain, they will deny its raining. It's a worthless exercise to attempt to prove anything to them.

they want to be called always came across as arrogant to me. That's the word that comes to mind for me. Not in your face arrogance but a sort of veiled arrogance nonetheless. You're telling 95% of the population you know shit the masses aren't capable of digesting or believing in. Fuck off with your open minded horse shit.

Any person that insists some mass murder is made up and we are "weakly" buying into the media spun web of lies is displaying a level of arrogance. It's the only way to actually perpetuate that mentality in my view. 'I keep my mind open and don't believe everything I see or read"--right on...go fuck yourself.
