NFT: RIP David Cassidy at 67

spike : 11/21/2017 9:24 pm
"
David Cassidy, pop culture idol of the 1970s, has died as a result of complications from dementia. The musician and actor was 67.

His publicist JoAnn Geffen confirmed his death.

Cassidy announced his diagnosis with dementia in early 2017, and reports indicate he died as a result of organ failure. He performed at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York in March, talking about his dementia, and said his arthritis made playing guitar an ordeal."

I almost posted this yesterday and realized that the reports were premature.

I remember my sister being into him as a kid. Loved the Partridge Family

My youth. He brought the shag haircut into vogue which was sort of the hip cousin to the eventual mullet.

The Partridge Family was pretty funny for a "Brady Bunch" type of show. David Cassidy and Danny Bonaduce had great chemistry and were a funny comedic duo.

For some reason, I don't like a world without David Cassidy.
Get Happy!
This guy was the coolest teenager...

on the planet in the early 70's. Had a pretty rough time dealing with celebrity at a young age. He turned out to be a very decent human being with an appreciation for the love his fans showered on him. Sad to see one of the good ones die so (relatively) young...

Don't forget the guy who played Reuben Kincaid. They actually generated had some real laughs on that show.

RIP.

and the Partridge Family followed the Brady Bunch (same night back to back?). I loved both shows - not ashamed to admit that : )

Mr Kincaid and Danny and their battles, and who did have a crush on Lori Partridge?

RIP Mr. Cassidy.

suggested the cause of death is Dementia when all of the reports I've read since the news broke down here in Florida some 5 days ago was that he was having organ failure (kidney and Liver) and it was too late for a Kidney transplant. How the cause of death goes from Organ failure to Dementia is very strange.

That being said, R.I.P as 67 is much too young! My fondest childhood memories with my family was gathering around the TV on Friday nights after dinner so we can watch The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family and Love American Style. And David Cassidy was a big part of that!! We will miss him.
Damn, I'm getting old

Being born in 1960, I liked the Brady Bunch & the Partridge Family around 1972. Shame. RIP, David.

Maybe the dementia was a form that caused his body to shut down? Must have been aggressive since he only had it a couple of years.
I remember reading
steve in ky : 11/21/2017 10:39 pm : link
that he had fought a long battle with alcohol addiction. Couple that with the dementia his body may have simply been too weak and begun to shut down.

Agree, Reuben Kincaid, the agent, was great. Susan Dey also had good chemistry with them. Those 4 clicked.
Shirley Jones was, by far,the most acclaimed of the cast
Matt M. : 11/22/2017 5:47 am : link
and she was basically a bit player.

I was too young to watch that in its first run, but I did love the Partrige Family and Brady Bunch in reruns later in the 70s.

He got a dwi here in town a few years back. The town judge got off on having a celebrity in his courtroom and dragged the guy over the coals, requiring 3 or 4 appearances to wrap up what should have been done in one or 2. even the asst da said, judge, ive never seen this case handled like this. all the while cassidy has admitted guilt, is contrite, and almost in tears. handled it with class though. much more class than the judge. sounds like he was suffering pretty bad. glad its over for him.
I do believe...

Favorite episode was when the family goes to Detroit and fills in for The Temptations. Richard Pryor, Louis Gossett Jr., and Charles Lampkin make appearances. Love the song, it "has sort of an afro thing happening." (episode quote)

My grandfather on my Mom's side died at 61 "from dementia" when his organs began to shut down. I was a teen-ager but I remember Mom saying the doctors told her then that her Dad had the internal organs of a 90-year-old.

That was the life of a lot of Pennsylvania railroad workers who were in the service during WW2. Guy smoked non-filter Camels and probably drank a fifth of whiskey a day, if not more on the days he'd go to the Moose to play cards with his boys.

Don't underestimate the long-term effects of alcohol on the body of a severe user/abuser of the stuff.
I owned 2 of their albums when I was a kid.

Careful...some liberal arts college will get on you for sharing a racist episode.
I never cared much for Susan Dey

when I was a stand-by for the Broadway Show, "Superman." Standbys had to be at the theater, just in case. Showed up at half/hour, stayed for about an hour and then left for the night. Easy money, but not a lot. Still! The first replacement would be the understudy, who usually plays someone else in a show. A good kid, impish and sometimes a little rude -- but that happens when a kid is very young and is the center of a lot of attention.

His father, Jack,a lead in the show, was one of the most talented actors and singers ever to appear on a broadway stage, a booming baritone. He was also extremely charismatic -- he came on stage and you couldn't take your eyes off him. Sad he died in a fire in his apartment. Jack liked his drink and sometimes the cast would talk with him at Joe Allen's, the go-to after show bar/restaurant for many of the performers.

Sad, always.
Sorry to hear that he has passed

He was a total drunk and a prick...

Hope he finds peace
