NFT: Anybody have Kaiser Permanente Health Insurance?

AcidTest : 11/22/2017 1:01 pm
Does anybody have health insurance through Kaiser Permanente? If so, how is the coverage and service? I have an individual policy through CareFirst, but they want to increase my premiums from $406 to $591. Kaiser is offering essentially the same policy for $480.

Kaiser also offers an optional dental rider for $13 a month through a company called Dominion Dental. Anyone use them?

I live in Maryland.

Thanks.
I've no info, apologies

It in Northern California. It is very big out here. I'm not sure how it is in Maryland. Different region. Here everything is on campus. As an example, my dad in N.Y. Was discharged from the hospital. I had to take him home and then go to CVS/ Walgreens to get his medication. In Kaiser you just go to the discharge pharmacy in the same building. You need an X-ray or blood drawn it is all done on campus. If you see your doctor and he/ she needs to send you to a specialist the doctor will send a referral o that department and they will call you with an appointment.

As healthy person in my 20s and 30s I had Kaiser when I lived in San Francisco and it was fantastic.

Smart, happy, attentive doctors. All the facilities in one building, so discrepancies between the insurer and the doctor's office.

It was the easiest healthcare I have ever had.
I had Kaiser for a few years

No real complaints however I always had the sneaking suspicion that the receptionist was also the x-ray technician as well as pharmacist in disguise. The place was huge with a very small staff.
I have Kaiser in Northern California

Out here they're great. Actually I'm covered for Kaiser through my wife's insurance. I have Blue Cross PPO on my own. For most things I actually prefer Kaiser. I had an excellent surgeon perform spinal stenosis ( David Wilson disease ) surgery on me. It only took me a couple of weeks to get an appointment after my own medical group jerked me around for months. I also got a quick appointment with them to get hernia surgery. Generally its very quick to get an appointment with them even for a a specialist or a surgeon. Also my wife has had some heart trouble for which they've been extremely good.

Its hard to say how they will be in another area of the country. Although they are efficient they can be bureaucratic and it can be difficult to get their attention for less serious conditions.

good at process and covering things broadly, not so good at quality care. Very quick to position routine prescriptions for everything.
