Hard for younger people to understand that at one time we basically had four channels and one of those was PBS, which was more famous for the Electric Company and Monty Python re-runs.
So there were those TV moments that EVERYONE saw because there simply weren't the options.

Yep Eric you're right TV back then was truly a national viewing experience. In fact believe it or not the whole family would get together in one room and actually watch together! I know un-believable.
Really true. Networks got a bad rap for stuff that had mass appeal, but that was what they did for their first 20+ years. I remember watching TV with my parents and siblings in the room. WKRP was a favorite.

The quality was not as good as today, and certainly there was less choice. But they heyday of network TV, when everyone had only a handful of stations to choose from, helped unite the country. Everybody was watching the same stuff and it provided a common frame of reference.
We have a lot more choices now, and overall a lot more quality. I’m not sure our society is better for it.
Was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I think it was on the same night as One Day at a Time which you had to watch because Valerie Bertinelli was so hot.
Les, was always the man. I loved the episode with his sneaky snooper.
