NFT: Who Shops On Black Friday?

EricJ : 11/24/2017 9:40 am
I hate going to the stores. Virtually everything I buy is online now. Today, Amazon sent me the link below to their black Friday deals.

My daughter works part time at a retail store in the mall when she is home from college on break. She had to be there at 5am today. When I dropped her off, the parking lot was half full already.

My daughter works at American Eagle in the mall

On a normal day they staff it with about 6 people. Today they have 50.

this is actually the first BF/CM they expect more people to shop online than stores
It sounds crazy and I want no part of it

but my wife and daughters were talking about it last night (decided not to go) as more of a fun event than desperately fighting others off for the last TV. More of a experience.

My daughter's friend works at some other large store and they hired 70 additional people just for the holidays.

Everytime my mother in law comes for Thanksgiving

which is almost ever year, she drags my wife all around on black Friday. This year she did not come so my wife gets a break.

On some items you can save big so its worth it to people who need to save more. This year for some reason my parents want a Roomba for Christmas. I looked online and Target has them for $100 off. I went the store this morning at 6 am (I work at 6am) and they were all out. I had to order it online and have it delivered. The deal is real good so I got 2 one for my in laws as well.

Why would go to a store on Black Friday if you could order it online?

I am working anyway. There is never anyone there at this time and Id rather pick it up if they have it. and not worry about delivery or getting packages stolen.
Assholes indeed

Stores actually open on Thanksgiving day now. Who the hell wants to go to a store then? Moreover, who wants people to have to work on Thanksgiving?
On our way home from Thanksgiving at my sister-in-law's,

we passed a Kohl's. It looked like there wasn't a single space available when I glanced over quickly.

At 7:30pm on Thanksgiving. Fucking Kohl's.

we are in the midst of a kitchen remodel so I had a couple of things to pickup for that purpose. Well, apparently even HD has turned into a holiday place to shop. Black Friday deals there too.

Sickening. Can't people just spend the holiday with their family?

Probably every year since 2005 until around 2012, my high school friends and I would make an event of it. Maybe six of us would hit up the Hamilton Mall area in Mays Landing. We never saw what the actual "deals" were nor we really got anything but we'd always go out just to pack beer, chips, and tailgate basically to have a good time. It became a tradition sort of thing. To be honest, part of it personally for me was I'd go out to see the fights. I love watching people yell and beat the piss out of each other in public while I stand off to the side laughing. Sometimes there would be a live band and a guy dressed up as a chicken and or a weasel.

Now? Everything has been quiet I guess since they started opening stores at 6pm on Thanksgiving. One thing I do notice is the people who flock to Walmart and Best Buy on Black Friday are NOT from the local areas.

I do a go around Walmart once a year and since we got one in Little Egg, I will get some DVDs or games that are cheap and remaining. I knew some of the workers so they hide stuff for me over the years. Now that's not really an issue.

Biggest thing I got is an iPad in 2013 (and a Walmart gift card) that I still use today.

It was kind of a nice, bit of a reunion for everyone who had parents that moved out of the area - that were visiting home. I maybe see four or five people who I know when I go out on Black Friday. Life gets boring I guess as you get older!
My daughter got home from work a few hours ago...
EricJ : 11/24/2017 7:00 pm : link
before she passed out on the couch, she said they had 10 registers open and there were 10 lines extending out of the store and into the mall.

And that's why it's called Black Friday.
Nope, just shop online
BigBlue4You09 : 11/24/2017 7:06 pm : link
I would never subject myself to the trash in those stores trying to save a few bucks on something i probably don’t need anyway.
I cannot lie...

I already ordered something this morning.

I usually start there, then look for stuff I really want or need.
It’s a testament to our collective stupidity

That people still do it. You can get the vast majority of the sales online, without risking bodily harm, while not requiring that a human be at work on Thanksgiving Day.

On the bright side, maybe the videos can be used to expel racism. There are all kinds of dumb, trashy assholes - white, black, hispanic, asian, male, female...
