The Depreciation Of The O-line..

Tark10 : 11/24/2017 2:31 pm
The Vikings had a leper colony for an offensive line last year. In the off season, the GM, Rick Speilman went to work. He signed two free agent tackles. One from Detroit and one from Carolina. A couple yrs ago they traded a seventh round pick to Pittsburgh for a backup center (Easton). They drafted (3rd round 2017) a guard-center. Although the RT has missed two games due to concussion the GM has rebuilt this line in one off-season. Reese hasn't done much in five years and now we have our own leper colony. I can't blame Reese for all the injuries.. Gilbride said years ago the Oline needed to be addressed. Coughlin said "This is the team I have been given to coach". I say Reese goes and Macadoo stays. He's a coach, not a miracle worker. AND Eli deserves far better.
Hahahaha, thanks for the laugh.

Any new GM is going to want their own HC. What strengths has McAdoo shown in his 4 years here?
They BOTH need to go
Alwaysblue22 : 11/24/2017 3:08 pm : link
A new GM with a lot of authority is essential and he will want his own coach. Hopefully it will be one that is not married to a single offensive approach and who will adapt plays to fit the personnel, and not force the personnel to play an offense they are not suited for. That is what Mack tried to do.. the defense bailed him out last year but quit on him this year. They got too disgusted watching his offense go three and out and leaving them worn out on the field. Mack talks about complimentary football but does not try to implement it. Real football played by real human beings is not madden electronic football. One size does not fit all..you have to play in a manner that gives your team the best chance to win. You also need a GM who is good at what he does to give you the tools to work with. Right now the Giants do not have enough tools or a flexible enough coach to work with the tools. Stubborn should not be the staple of your organization, as it has been with the Marra led Giants. It is time for this to END.
Rick Spielman
AndyB : 11/24/2017 3:14 pm : link
Rick Spielman has been the de facto general manager of the Vikings since 2006. He has one playoff win in 11 seasons. He's the guy who drafted Christian Ponder 12th overall in 2011. His first round pick in 2016, Laquon Treadwell, has a grand total of 15 receptions in 20 games and zero touchdowns.

Spielman has had successes and failures. Just like every other GM. His career is a blip compared to Jerry Reese's.
That next to last sentence

is a little arguable.
Re: OL...You could add the Rams, Saints, and Lions have also evolved their OLs over the last 1-2 seasons.
Good post.

He hasn’t been blessed with a franchise QB like Reese.

The Vikings have a better roster top to bottom despite the blown picks on Ponder, Bridgewater, and Bradford.

Treadwell is a bust but Diggs (5th round), Thielen (undrafted), and Rudolph aren’t. Something you conveniently neglected to fit your narrative.

The Vikings are the 2 seed right now with a 3rd string QB and their workhorse back gone for the year with an ACL.

Reese can’t hold this guy’s jock.

Thanks.. half the idiots on BBI just say 2 SB hence Jerry must be great.. They forget how hard life is without a franchise QB.. JR had one handed to him who provided 11 years of Hof/Elite level QB performance.. Yet JR's team has missed the playoffs more than they have made it..
This is one of those cases where both sides are right.

Reese deserves credit for 2 Superbowls and the work involved in getting there is something you can't take away from him.

HOWEVER - since 2011 he's been an awful GM, and after 6 years of mediocrity at best, it's time for a change in the front office. We just have to hope Ross and Mara go with him.

what are the chances mara fires reese and mcadoo, and promotes marc ross to GM, and chris mara to marc ross's job. sadly, i could see this happening..
Minnesota drafted Cordarrelle Patterson in the first round

Guy couldn't learn the playbook and mainly just played special teams. He's playing for another team now.

Not learning from their mistake, Minnesota drafted Laquon Treadwell in the first round. Guy can't learn the playbook and can't get on the field.

Good thing for them the draft is longer than 1 round. Maybe Reese will learn that one day.

The Vikings played in four of the first 11 Super Bowls, never led in any of them, and they didn't score a point in the first half of any of them, either. They made their last Super Bowl appearance in the waning days of the Ford administration.

Meanwhile, the Giants have reached the Super Bowl five times in the last 30 years and have won four championships, including two in last 10 years.

Obviously, the Giants have been a far superior organization, at every level. Why have the Giants, and Jerry Reese, been so successful, while the Vikings, and Rick Spielman, have been such spectacular failures?

60 years of history is irrelevant. Like I said earlier, Reese inherited a franchise QB. The Vikings GM didn’t, and despite blowing multiple first round picks over the years the Vikings have put together a deeper and more talented roster.

The hole thing needs to be blown up

No hold overs .... the Giants are an embarrassment ...

12 of 14 seasons with no playoff wins for Eli.

1 playoff home game in the new stadium.

It all needs to be blown up!

with the authority to pick a HC and overhaul the rest of the talent evaluators on this team is our best shot as bringing this team back into contention in the shortest amount of time. The owners have to let him do his job without interference.

I don't see that scenario happening.
Mcadoo has not shown one single quality in four years here
djm : 11/25/2017 1:21 pm : link
Not one. He isn't innovative. He isn't creative. He doesn't appear to be adept at identifying personnel issues or talent. Seems weird when it comes to player relationships. Has a terrible rapport with the media and goes out of way to alienate said media. His in game decision making is questionable at best. His playcalling, something I rarely critique, is the stuff of legend, in a bad way.

His best and only quality is time mgmt. that's it.
Hope we are not going to

sscapegoat McAdoo to protect the incompetent Reese again like we did with Coughlin. Could happen again PC sucks. MO
