The directive from ownership was keep the streak going, but let's get some work in for the other two QBs over these last 5 games...
What McAdoo should have said: "Eli, season is down the tubes obviously, I just want to give you a heads up that over the last 5 games, we're going to look for some spots in the second half of games to take a look at Davis and Geno."
If you're down 20 at the half to Oakland, and Kalil Mack has 4 sacks... Do you think Eli is going to protest getting yanked for his own health under those circumstances?
McAdoo screwed this up, as he did everything else this year and presented it differently to Eli and now there is really no way to save face...
McAdoo likely gets the plug pulled before Dallas... They can't fire him midweek... And in spite of Mara and Eli talking this morning... Eli still declined to ceremonially take the ball on Sunday to preserve the streak... Eli is amazing... Doesn't care about the streak. Damage is done.
But you're still a fake asshat...
Care to explain that one, Slade?
Care to explain that one, Slade?
I stand by that...
You're seeing the aftermath right now...
In other words, Mara didn’t expect it would be handled so poorly, thus he wasn’t prepared to get ahead of it, as most of us think he should have.

If this is true then Mara must be really pissed off at Mac and Reese. In the end they didn't get what he wanted done, and ended up with the exact mess he didn't want. Mara also mentioned that he wasn't prepared for the backlash, or at least it was bigger than expected.
But it would be a good thing to have a higher % of being right :)
seems to me Mcadoo been bitching to Jerry and both are trying to save thier asses, and yet again, show Ben doesnt want Eli.
So glad Eric wanted to keep this troll here!

I have no problem with Jordan and others playing along and harping on it during the pressers. It’s simple syllogism. A = B = C
Good prep = Good practice = Wins.
Reese: bad prep, no wins
Mac: good prep, not translating to the field.
Hmm...
Are they arguing?
I initially would think I’d have to side with Jerry on this one since he’s the guy with access that sees both the product on the field and behind the scenes prep. And has for a long time. However his job is on the line so ... maybe he would blame the losses on lack of prep even if it werent true. So might that genius line actually be a dig? Doubt it but possible. Is Mac the target of frustration or is it the players Jerry is actually calling out?
I think it’s actially the players.
Mac insists the prep and practices are good / great but things aren’t just translating on Sundays for some reason. He has never thrown Jerry under the bus, he says they are on the same page about the players despite heavy criticism of the OL, run game, and QB play. If I recall correctly Eli is actually the only player Mac has called out as being “sloppy” — and has defended decisions related to personnel and play calls and duties thereof. He is extremely complimentary of opposing QBs each week during the preview sessions. He routinely notes the lack of sharpness by our offense, QB decisions, and his desire to run the ball more.
So:
Both these guys are either delusional about the state of this team (unlikely)
Are just covering their asses and using the media to dig each other (possible but out of character)
...or not telling the truth about what they believe plagues this team.
Time for speculation.
Jerry and Mac are truthfully on the same page and agree young players need to be supported even if partially at fault, but they are basically in silent agreement that leadership on both sides of the ball aren’t leading this team to victory. Eli is done. while he has always put in the work he doesn’t translate it anymore. The rest of the team isn’t working as hard as they need to, they can’t overcome deficiencies, and they are not executing on the field.
But I think it starts with Eli - and both Jerry and Mac are more likely in agreement than not that they need a young QB capable of avoiding the rush and making plays and keeping the team in games.

For all of those who want to put this entirely on McAdoo (despite the fact that Mara has already refuted that to some degree), here's some completely baseless speculation (appropriate on a Slade thread):
What if McAdoo has indeed been trying to bench Eli for weeks and has been saying that Eli is the reason why the offense is sputtering? Maybe Mara, in that scenario, finally relented and said "fine, get Geno on the field for some meaningful snaps in the 2nd half of a game or two and prove that Eli is the problem."
At a minimum, Mara would be giving McAdoo enough rope to hang himself while being fair to the coach without letting him bench Eli outright. Obviously, in my speculation scenario, McAdoo couldn't sell it to Eli directly with "hey Eli, I'm hoping to prove that you're the problem with the offense so we're going to get Geno onto the field in the second half" and there you have it.
Disclaimer: all of that is my own speculation, just like Slade's.
Got to give the devil his due....I think that's a very accurate statement. Nice work on this one Slade....if McAdoo is really canned after Oakland your credibility should be fully restored.
