Meh... as Matt in SGS pointed out yesterday, the Giants have a long history of botching some of this stuff. That doesn't mean they don't do classy things behind the scenes without seeking attention (I see this all the time privately).
But as pointed out yesterday, Simms learned he had been cut from ESPN. Kerry Collins was dumped pretty harshly as well.
First time those words were ever used in the same sentence. This isn't a "crisis"... to think so is ludicrous. They made a business decision instead of a personal decision. What happened with Josh Brown was disgusting and Mara deserves to be raked over the coals for it, but that has nothing to do with this situation. But then again, Pat Leonard's inability to separate issues has led me to be shocked there's no mention of "boat trip" in this article.
The Giants' job is to do what's best for the Giants, not to create pillowy exit ramps even for their greatest players.

Ironically most people only seem to care about how QB's are treated. At least with Simms and Collins that was the offseason
was deposed pretty ignobly, so this whole mythology about the classy "Giant's Way" is mostly BS. As FMiC pointed out yesterday, at least the Giants "back in the day" would do what they felt was in the best interests of the NFL even if they occasionally botches their internal dealings, but I'm not sure even that is true today. It certainly wasn't in the Josh Brown case.
But it is time to end the classy Mara bullshit, and the classy Giant bullshit, they are an NFL franchise, no better or no worse then any of the others, the days of throwing stones at the Redskins or Cowboys for being classless has ended, we would only be the same hypocrites that the Mara family is.

Hah, I was just coming in to say that. There have been a lot of bad Rangers beat writers, but he was the worst. Was thrilled to see him leave that post, not thrilled to see him given the Giants beat after that.
I hate to bring this up, but you also have to wonder how much the Giants knew about Dave Meggett's horrific off-the-field activities. That was a real eye opener.
Meggett's only brush with the law as a Giant was when he was arrested for solicitation in 1990. It wasn't until he had gone to the Patriots that he was arrested for domestic violence (in 1995) and been accused of rape (in 1997).
Doesn't mean that the Giants never had any indications of what he really was, but who can say what they knew?
That this franchise operates at the same level as any other NFL organization when it comes to football. The “classiest nfl team” is a myth and always has been.
RE: The enabling of Lawerence Taylor is the best example Â

they did not "enable" Lawrence Taylor. He has even said it himself. The Giants and Parcells did everything they could to help him and clean him up, intevening on numerous occasions. He relapsed in spite of their efforts.

Thank you Eric. Exactly how I feel. And I totally agreed with Matt yesterday.
The Giants are the same as every other franchise. They do great work in the community, they give preferential treatment on their own whims, they charge fans for PSLs, they treat beloved players with little thought or care... its an NFL franchise, run by out of touch billionaire owners.
I continue to believe there was a lot more to the Josh Brown thing Â
than anyone is ever going to admit to. Firmly believe that rather than trying to dump him like radioactive waste for the sake of PR, they were making an effort to get him help, and got made fools of when more information came out.
