After being on the road since August, I am looking forward to getting to the office & compiling my note next week. As far as draft talent, I am not saying this is going to be the first guy taken at the spot, but the ONE guy at each spot that I gotta have if I was drafting;
QB-Unless a Trojan enters the draft, I stay away from this motley crew. Why, because I wait until 2019 for Darnold or Mississippi State's Nick Fitzgerald, two guys I'd mortgage the ranch for.
WR-Jester Weah-Pitt and Cam Phillips-Virginia Tech...I like unearthing WR talent during day 3. Weah has the best hands in this draft class, but Pitt QBs only started & ended the same game twice & ranked 109th in passing. Yet, he still caught 41 balls, stands 6:04 & has a career 20.32-yard average
Phillips does it all, sort of like Wes Welker met Julian Endelman-reverses, deep threat (best 10-yard explosion in this class - 1.47), holds the school reception, yardage & TD records & is third in receptions among active WRs. Oh, he also handles returns.
TE-Adam Braverman-UMass...He comes with an expiration label, as he actually retired due to bad knee surgery at Penn State prior to 2015 & then served as campaign manager in the PA senate race. 150 receptions the last 2 years & outside of Stanford's Schultz, he's the best blocking TE in this draft.
OC-Austin Corbett-Nevada-Think Jeff Hartings here-has the top grade of any left OT this year, but at 6:03 & short arms, he has that trap blocking skills I like & quick hands which he uses as a deep snapper, thus I predict his move inside
OG-Cody O'Connell-Washington State & Tyrell Crosby-Oregon... Hey, a 6:09, 374 left OG with the best pass protection #s for any OL guy in college the last 2 years? I'd go Day 3 on him, but Day 2 on Crosby, another left tackle I'd convert to guard. Kid benches 550.
OT-Brian O'Neal-Pittsburgh & Connor Williams-Texas...Williams should be okay by the start of next season & if he did not have that knee issue, he could have been a top 5 guy. O'Neal is the best athlete at OT I've seen in a while. He was a TE until 2016, started at ROT last year & LOT this year, but still caught 3 TDs the last 2 seasons.
TOMORROW-My defensive faves (remember, not the top dude, but guys that have really impressed)
MY TAKE ON THE BEST GUY AT EACH
QB-Darnold or nobody
WR-James Washington-Oklahoma State
TB-Saquon Barkley-Penn State
