This could be an interesting development. Possibly looking to go to a market that has not or does not have a Successful Japanese player in its history.

Also looks like the Ham Fighters will post him today.
I based it on these comments as well. All speculation at this.
Brandon Laird, who offered a similar suggestion (Twitter link): “I feel like he just wants to come and not be compared to other guys who have already been here — to start fresh on his own, show what he can do by himself.”

By saying he doesn't want to join a team that has no history with a Japanese player, it basically eliminates the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Padres, Mariners, Marlins, Mets, Cubs, Rangers, Astros, Angels and Giants.
In other words, just about every major media market in the U.S.- which undercuts two major points he has also claimed- he wants to win and he wants to be a star.
I think this is more likely bad translation or someone trying to throw up smokescreens.
It's from a Jon Morosi tweet:

Shohei Ohtani development: Multiple @MLB team execs believe Ohtani may actually prefer to sign with a club that doesn’t already have a Japanese star; Ohtani’s camp has not commented on that. @MLBNetwork
not sure I can find a team not on this list - ( New Window )
Why because of one unsubstantiated rumor? Get a grip
ah, yeah, I guess that does narrow it down.
Yeah that sounds suspiciously like some weird smoke screen stuff from agents, to encourage all teams to stay in the game, not just assume it’s a 1 or 2 or 3 horse race. Who knows, we’ll find out soon enough
I believe that's already been shot down.

Lol.
