Head Coach Ben McAdoo
December 1, 2017
Q: Do you think things could have been handled better with the Eli Manning situation?
A: I was upfront and honest with Eli and I don’t have any regrets there.
Q: Do you feel like the way the idea was conveyed to President and CEO John Mara was the same way it was conveyed to Manning?
A: I was honest, I was upfront with Eli and I don’t have any regrets with the way it was handled.
Q: Was the fact that Manning would play the first half and then another quarterback play the second half a specific thing you told Mara?
A: We were on the same page with how it was going to be handled.
Q: Mara did not seem like he was on the same page, based off what he said to reporters.
A: We were on the same page.
Q: When did you and General Manager Jerry Reese begin discussing this plan?
A: We were on the same page.
Q: Have you talked to Mara this week?
A: I have not talked to John recently, no.
Q: Is it more difficult for you when you have to answer every question about this, when the general manager doesn’t speak?
A: No. I’m comfortable with the way we handle public relations.
Q: Did you decide to make this move because the team is now eliminated from the playoffs?
A: It’s a decision based off of us being 2-9. We’re 2-9, we’re out of contention, we need to make sure we evaluate the roster top to bottom. And the best way to do that is by putting a game plan together, having the players prepare for a game and go out and perform.
Q: Weren’t you out of contention at 2-8?
A: When we were mathematically eliminated.
Q: So, if you were still mathematically alive, Manning would be starting this week?
A: That’s a hypothetical, but we were mathematically eliminated and this is the direction we decided to go.
Q: How committed to quarterback Geno Smith can you be in this week’s game? If he’s rusty and struggles, will you leave him in there or is there a chance you will go back to Manning?
A: I’m confident in Geno. I’m not going into the game thinking that way, no one is. He had a good week of preparation, a good week of practice, he’s played football in this league. I’m excited to see him go out there and play in a Giants uniform.
Q: Would you be comfortable if you had to go back to Manning after this week?
A: Absolutely. Eli’s a pro, he’ll be ready to go if his number is called.
Q: How different would that be for you, to have to call on Manning as a reserve?
A: I haven’t done it before, so it would be different, but it wouldn’t be awkward. It’s part of the game.
Q: Will you have two or three quarterbacks active on Sunday?
A: That’s a question I’m not willing to answer at this point.
Q: If Manning had a solid first half, would he have continued to play?
A: I already answered those questions.
Q: Has quarterback Davis Webb seen any increased action in practice?
A: Yeah, we’re going to address that soon.
Q: But he hasn’t yet?
A: He has not yet, correct.
Q: Are you concerned at all that Mara’s comments indicated that there might have been some sort of miscommunication between you two?
A: No, I’m confident and comfortable with the way we communicate and our open lines of communication.
Q: Are you confident that your players will be motivated to play on Sunday?
A: Yeah. I think the players will be at their best. It’s their job, they’re pros. Again, when you look at it from a player’s perspective and empathizing with the players, they go through this each and every day. Most of the guys in the locker room are in jeopardy of losing their job at some point in time. Job security in this league is tough. I think they’re aware of that, I think they understand that. I think they also feel blessed to be in the locker room with Eli. But with that being said, I think they’ll go out, I think they’ll play hard, they’ll play hard for each other, they’ll rally around Geno and put their best foot forward.
Q: Have you addressed the comments made by Manning’s former teammates at any level?
A: No, but listen, it’s an emotional decision. I understand it. I get it. It’s a part of it.
Q: From the demeanor that we see from you, I don’t know if we see that it is an emotional decision for you.
A: Again, you have to separate the emotions and your feelings and make a decision with what you feel is right for the organization moving forward.
Q: You made a point to say it’s not all on Manning, did you sense that perception from anywhere?
A: No, but I think it’s important when you make a change you state the reason for the change and it’s to evaluate the roster from top to bottom. And you have to take the emotions out of it, you have to take any accomplishments out of it and evaluate the roster. It doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road for anybody.
Q: How are you deciding when you’re going to increase Webb’s reps in practice?
A: We have a plan in place for that.
Q: From the demeanor that we see from you, I don’t know if we see that it is an emotional decision for you.
A: Yeah, we’re going to address that soon.
Q: But he hasn’t yet?
A: He has not yet, correct.
On top of all the shit going on right now, why is Webb not seeing more practice snaps?!?!

hahaha would love to know who asked that
He couldn't even manage to look professional on the biggest day in his career. He is a fucking embarrassment of the highest order.
His tenure here will be a running joke for years to come.

Believe it, and it WILL HAPPEN!
You want to talk about bad optics?

when this asshole trotted out for his introductory press conference wearing a suit 5x too big.

I pray to God that this guy is gone come new years day.

The Giants, with an emotional lift, beat the Cowboys in front of the home crowd next Sunday.
Legendary.
The amazing thing for me, sports emotions typically dissipate after sleeping it off. We're now 4 days removed from this decisions and I still would like someone to kick this coach square in the nuts.

I’d be so pissed he lost his streak if that’s the case.
If Ben and Jerry are safe after everything this team has endured this year, then John Mara should seriously be evaluated for mental deficiencies.
A: We were on the same page."
If I am Mara and read that I have his head on a platter sooner than later. Maybe only because that is what I want to see.
In any case, this might be his first press conference where he didn't say "heavy handed". Which is a relief.

It would just add to the intrigue/story of it all.... And a lot of people might consider that missed game as an * eventually.
Why does John Mara continue to let McAdoo soil the Giants franchise and the ruin the reputation of this once proud organization? What’s being done here by McAdoo’s extraordinary incompetence will take generations to undo. What does Mara think we’re telling our kids about what it means to be a Giants fan? Holly football Jesus make it stop!
If it’s the end of the Eli era here then every player has an ending. I for one see nothing wrong with how it was done always believe any player is one play away from his last play. Eli Manning made his call I’m more than willing to live with it just as he must be.
C’mon you can say it.....
Now, McAdoo has shown, all up and down the spectrum, just HOW much he is NOT the right guy to coach this football team, or in New York.
Really so pathetic I can't stand it.
It's hard for me to find just one answer from him there that doesn't make me want to punch him right in the greased-back fucking forehead.
Uh, no.

Personally, I think Mara's lying. Maybe he had a different idea on what the plan would be, but if it wasn't to his liking he could have stopped it from happening before it went public. I think he's using some revisionist history to try to dodge some of the fan reaction.
With that attitude he not only offended an extraordinarily valuable employee but defamed the entire organization.
"We'll have to look at the tape."
"I thought there was good effort out there."
POS should be left in Oakland.

Send this letter to Mara :)
FIRE THIS FUCKING GUY ALREADY

Was just listening in the car to Francessor who played the audio of McAdoo’s presser and Mike said, basically someone’s lying. Is Mara lying about the plan or is McAdoo lying?

Maybe it's Mara but even so do you call your boss a liar?
Mara tried to go high road and let this clown hold on to the keys too long... Oakland is the end of the road...
Word has it that his dog pees on his leg, regularly.
I pray to God that this guy is gone come new years day.
I don’t see used car salesman. He couldn’t sell a cold bottle of water to a guy stranded in the desert.
He’s the guy managing a fast food restaurant at a suburban shopping mall who gets off on yelling at the hourly employees
"We'll have to look at the tape."

He did say Geno had a good week of practice ...
So, I’m prett...psyched?
John Mara is a spineless jellyfish too.

I'm an offensive guru...

I didn't read the transcript,
is that basically what he said?
(I mean if you read between the lines?)
