I like the album version (they released it as a cover), but I like this live version from Conan the best.
the drums on this one along with his emotion are incredible. Sound of Silence - Disturbed on Conan - ( New Window )
Disturb's version definitely at the top of the list and blows Simon and Garfunkle's original version out of the water.
Also, Joan Jett in "Crimson and Clover" - big step up from Tommy James and the Shondells. Dittos with Billy Idol who did Tommy James and the Shondells "Mony Mony". Crimson and Clover - ( New Window )
really nail down "You Don't Own Me". I loved Leslie Gore (may she rest in peace), but the sound quality of 2016 compared to late 50's / early 60's when Leslie Gore made the song famous gives Grace an unfair huge advantage "You Don't Own Me" by Grace - ( New Window )
First heard this on “The Leftovers” and fell in love with the arrangement. Didn’t even realize it was the song from Grease until I listened to the lyrics. You’re The One That I Want - ( New Window )
And even the band that did it hates it, but Slayer in a gadda da vida (however the hell you spell it, it was gibberish the first time). Just enjoy that it exists

"I Walk the Line" on their It's Hard album
Thelonious Monk did a great cover of "I'm getting sentimental over you" on Live at the IT Club
Chili Peppers "She's Red Hot" on Blood Sugar Sex Magick
RE: Creedence Clearwater Revival - I Heard It Through The Grapevine Â
covering Motley Crue - On With the Show (linked below). Original is still the best, and possibly best Motley Crue song, but cover by Get Up Kids is good.
they also have a really good cover of the Cure Close to Me.
very underrated band (The Get up Kids; though I think the Cure cover was satire b/c it was a very melancholy song when the Cure did it (like almost all their songs), not so much in the cover ) Get up Kids - On with the Show - ( New Window )
Amazing cover from start to finish. These guys cover all of the Beatles stuff and perform entire albums in original order. Sgt. Pepper's Entire Album - ( New Window )
beyond the usual predictable list of ever cover all have heard Â

Damn!
I thought I'd go beyond the obvious pop stuff and you beat me to it!
OK, I'll submit Eva's version of "Sound of Silence".
I hope your comments encourage music affectionados to seek out Eva's accomplishments (and history) and how she incentivised more recent female singers to look beyond standard arrangements.

I love The Get Up Kids. One of my favorite bands of all time. I can't even count how many of their shows I've been to.
by Linda Ronstadt, written by Jackson Browne. I love Jackson Browne - probably my favorite songwriter. Linda Ronstadt sings Rock Me on the Water like an angel. She was really something else.

I'm not a Dylan fan by any stretch so I'm a bit biased but does
Anyone other than a few crazies think his version is better Hendrix's?

And then I just plain dig Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal. More an homage than a cover.
