more for his work prior to becoming GM (where he was awesome) than when he was GM (he was average). He was perhaps the best assistant GM in the NFL before being promoted to GM. I think it went wrong when Reese delegated a lot of his authority to Marc Ross and the talent evaluation crew while having to handle the greater responsibility.
Anyway, he deserves plaudits for helping build the 2 Super Bowl champions in the Eli era.
I dont think he was as bad as everyone made him out to be. Missed on the OL picks and had a ton of bad injury luck. I think he will get another job, but it was time to move on. Thanks Jerry and good luck elsewhere.
With Ernie he was interviewed all the time and we all heard the same Bert Jones and Elway stories a hundred times. What did Reese give us besides stuttering and "blue goose"?
Unlike McAdoo, Reese at least has some real things to appreciate Â
He was excellent prior to becoming GM. He inherited a good team and won 2 rings. For that, he deserves some credit. But, he must then also share a lot of the blame for the shitshow since the last SB, especially the drafts that followed.
to be lumped in with McAdoo. Did a lot of good things for this franchise, but he really lost the plot since 2012. Seemed to have a great eye for certain positions like WR and struggled with others.
Still though, the talent on the roster during the great run from 2005-2011 is due in large part to the scouting network he helped build.
I'm grateful for what he contributed, but happy to be moving on.
But it had to end. In Reese We Trust was a mantra I succumbed to. But hiring McAdoo and never giving the Oline were too much to overcome. Not to mention our rushing attack has been dreadful thus decade.
years on his belt. 2008, 2012, and 2016 seasons weren't too bad either - just fell a little short. Definetly think he'll find success with another organization.
Eli pulled two rabbits out of the playoff hat... Â
Reese was officially the GM starting in 2007 but he largely built the team the last few years Accorsi was GM. He definitely carried out most of the GM roles in the Coughlin era when he was still working under Accorsi. Remember Accorsi and Coughlin were very frosty with each other (Ernie didn't want him), and Wellington Mara forced Accorsi to take TC. Due to Wellington's status, there was no way Accorsi would defy him in those days, so he remained GM. Accorsi got Eli but the rest of that 2007 team is Reese, and the 2011 team is Reese.
I think Reese failed where a lot of executives failed, by trusting the competence of his underlings to be the same as his. Marc Ross and the talent evaluation team under Reese definitely did a poor job and Reese took their assertions as valid advice when he should have been more controlling
Especially if he learns from some of his missteps here. I hope and think he deserves another shot somewhere. Wish him the best. That said, it was certainly the right move for this organization.

He will get a job in 5 minutes. Not too many 2 time SB winning GMs are available for hire
out of his hat were because of guys like JPP and Cruz. Giving Reese some credit for the 2 Super Bowls is appropriate.
The team went 11-5 last year with an inferior roster. The bigger issue, IMO, is coaching.
I'm ok with moving on, I think it was probably necessary. However, those looking for better drafts/FA signings are probably going to be disappointed. Hopefully not having perfect drafts will be off set by improved coaching, which is huge in football at any level.
Probably has to take a job a notch lower - personnel director, assistant GM, something like that. I do think he'll get another crack in the near future, just not right away.
RE: Eli pulled two rabbits out of the playoff hat... Â
This is false. Eli doesn’t win those Super Bowls without Snee, Tuck, Jacobs, Webster, Diehl, Bradshaw, Osi, and several others. Reese deserves credit for those drafts, as well as deserving blame for the team rotting around Eli since 2012
I think Reese will wait for the best GM job available, and Cleveland isn't it. His resume is actually pretty good
Cleveland has 1 and 7 first round next year
also they are franchise that is current terrible but have some decent young players
they have never won anything
For the Super Bowl countdown clock that was a joke, and blaming the players for buying into hype instead of blaming yourself, and for helping throw TC under the bus, and signing off on the ELi benching. Good riddance.
He was an excellent cap manager who always negotiated hard to keep cap hits down, something his predecessor didn't do as well and that George Young didn't do at all. He considered all possibilities and was good at making many of them happen.
His scouting ability was a huge asset for us at first, but over the last 5 or 6 years he lost his touch, and that is ultimately what took him down. He ignored linebackers and drafted crappy offensive lineman, and he was too enamored with potential and ignored injury history. Our overly injured, not so talented young players were his downfall.
Was never on same page sometimes with coaches and it showed.
*Played a big part in drafting Tuck, Webster, Jacobs.
Midas Touch in the mid-rounds went downhill though as GM after the first Super Bowl.
That said - I'm glad we're moving on. It's time.

Had a nice run, but ultimately botched draft after draft way too many times.
I'm sure he has a future somewhere as a draft consultant, but shouldn't be running the show. I wish him luck.
No awful feelings about the guy. Just did not address things as they needed to be.
Best of luck.
Accorsi got Eli but Reese pretty much built the rest of that 2007 team and the entire 2011 team is his

my nightmare scenario
Reese becomes Browns GM
Reese hires Josh McDaniels
Sam Darnold stays in school another year
Reese drafts Josh Rosen

No one can take away his two rings. He earned them.

it is perfect Reese position
