It's been a horrid year, and it's easy to dump on him, but the guy is sincere and wants the best for the franchise. If anything he's too loyal, but how can I hate him for that?
but some of the eli benching damage is done, and it is now being reported that Mac would have been fired win or lose yesterday.
what was the point of waiting until today?
what was the point of making a healthy eli break his streak?
He should have acted weeks ago, but also said today that he had the power to reverse the Eli benching and didn't do it.
If Eli starts on Sunday under Spags, that would be an incredible lapse from Mara to let Eli sit yesterday for essentially no reason, we never needed to see whet Geno could do, we and the whole world already knew.
"wholesale changes needed to be made to this organization to get us back to the team that we expect to be"
I sure hope they realize that some of their own methods, principals, and perspectives are definite candidates for things that fall within wholesale changes to be made.
I read "My very strong preference is to maintain that traditional _______" and I'm skeptical that there's a good reason behind that preference other than simple dogma.
a great owner. We all know the Eli thing could and should have been handled better.
He's also been a reasonable, passionate and competent owner for a long long time. He represents the Giants well and its clear he's focused on what really matters: getting the GM/HC combo to lead the Giants from here out.
RE: As much as he's being shit upon, I still think that Mara's a class act Â

He is not a class act if it is true McAdoo didn't meet with Manning privately and actually broke the news to Manning in a QB meeting. If that is true (and I still have trouble believing it), then John Mara is a fucking asshole for waiting until yesterday to fire anyone who would do such a thing.
To run this team. Mara is a nice man but he's a weak leader. Clearly Tisch intervened to expedite the terminations that went going to occur until end of season.
his inclination to involve himself in football decisions bodes ill as, for example, his assertion that it would be preferable to have a new GM hire the coach but his refusal to commit to that. He's already been up to his neck in coaching decisions that turned out badly. His job should be to hire a first rate GM, then step back and hold him accountable.

He almost can't win.
If he doesn't fire people fast enough, he's incompetent. If he fires people too fast, he's a meddler and a jerry jones wannabe.
not sure where people are so certain that Eli will be starting again for us. It seems logical given that Mara wanted him to continue to start, as did the fans, but why put the cart before the horse? Mara seems to be clearly saying that it will be Spags' call, and that he wanted to talk with the offensive coaches to develop the plan. How that turned into media reports that Eli would be back is not clear to me.
If anything official has been said about Eli starting please refer me to it, as I've been looking for a while now and have yet to find it.

Mara has been making the radio rounds today. He's leaving it up to the interim coach.

Yeah, that's what Eli said as well.
I was questioning the wisdom of that kind of a move - think it would be better to keep the status quo even though it's painful for Eli and all his fans. Now I think it's likely Eli gets to play though.

. Mara was right to shift focus on future. But he caved into fans bitching and moaning. It’s the wrong move. O
We'll hear more stories of tone deaf actions in and around McAdoo in the coming days.
Reading between the lines, it was sitting Manning down in front of the other QBs and not pulling him aside that was the final straw. I won't be surprised to hear more about the DRC, Jenkins, and Apple situations as well.
There's plenty of room, snaps and season to evaluate the players and coaches left on the staff.
I also wouldn't worry about accidentally winning much. There are so many players out, it's not a threat.
RE: Going all out to win meaningless games and not evaluate players Â
Is stupid. The decision to evaluate young players was the right move. Fan bitching and moaning and now we are all in on 2017. WTF.
Focusing on 2017 instead of future is stupid and short sighted. For Christ sakes do the right thing.
Here is the deal: McAdoo never got Webb reps in practice. He had not O Line, no running game and few good receivers. Evaluating Webb sounds good but in reality, you gonna find out he needed more time and more help.
that Jerry did not want McAdoo. Obviously that means he was Mara's choice. I really do think that John needs to have some input on who the coach is but ultimately leave that decision to the GM.
I would love to know whose decision it was to bring McAdoo in to be the OC a few years ago.

I don't see why it's difficult to think Coughlin made the choice. He's an offensive coach. Tom Coughlin offered a low-level assistant job to Chip Kelly many years ago before he became a big name. As well-connected as he is, and as much of a fraternity head coaches are in the NFL, it doesn't strike me as unbelievable that he was aware of well-regarded offensive assistants.

Play Eli. Try to win. Let the draft shake out.
We know this. McAdoo is a fool. They should have been preparing Webb a long time ago. A meaningless win or two isnt going to fix anything. These are preseason games. The right move for the franchise is to start looking towards 2018 and beyond. 2017 is long over.

You think anyone will admit to it?

A ludicrous assumption to think that a) he got to name his successor b) he would have nominated a boob that he obviously was carrying the whole time c) GM Jr needed any prompting to name the guy he wanted there in the first place.
You know who is a pussy? The guy who goes on an anonymous board and says he hopes that our 2-time SB MVP QB breaks his neck, that's who. The one who has his tongue so far up Ben McAdoo's butt that he can't see what a shitty coach he was. You have no business being here. Go away.
