Should the Giants go for a defensive minded guy or an offensive minded guy? The case can be made for either side
Defensive: The Giants have a history that has been based on great defense and winning the line of scrimmage. A defensive minded coach with a tough, hard-nosed, blue collar mentality fits the Giants history and is a good fit considering the Giants play in Metlife where the weather favors a team that plays great defense and runs the ball. Plus, the Giants just had an offensive minded guy who failed miserably.
Offensive Minded: IMO, this is the direction I would go. I know McAdoo didn't work out, but most of the bright young coaches in the NFL are offensive minded guys (Mara mentioned this today). The Giants are in position to grab a QB with a top 2 or 3 pick, and they could pair that young QB with a great offensive mind to help his development. Plus, the Giants already have great young pieces in place on offense in OBJ, Engram, and Shepard. Imagine what a guy like McDaniels could do with weapons like that and a young QB like Rosen or Darnold.
We need someone to help groom the rookie, and ease the transition if Eli is to remain the starter for now.
