Eli love fest

phils2008 : 12/4/2017 5:54 pm
Everybody can have an opinion on how Eli’s situation was handled, but pretending he isn’t part of the problem is rediculous. Smith played well. One play in particular where he escaped the pressure, rolled right and threw a downfield strike should have shown everyone what we’ve lacked for years. The Giants are years away from having an OL that can allow an immobile pocket passing QB with limited athletisim to succeed, so move on. Why start a rebuild with an aging QB who has a year or two left at most? That’s exactly how losing years get extended.
Then get a GM
LS : 12/4/2017 5:57 pm : link
and a coach that get the players and the scheme to protect him. Worked before, and Eli isn't any less mobile than he ever was.
Pick a top team in the league

tell me what their OL looks like and what they've invested recently.

It's not just about Eli and it won't be fixed by picking a guy that's a bit more mobile.
Yeah

I'm pretty sure that new management will recognize Eli's small window.

Meanwhile, any guy they install as its future quarterback NEEDS A REALLY GOOD LINE. It's just a good idea to build one, no matter who plays the position.

That won’t happen overnight. So Webb should sit while Eli continues an unproductive sentimental ride thru another losing season??????

Why do people think more mobility is the end all
PatersonPlank : 12/4/2017 6:18 pm : link
Arm strength, accuracy, decision making, reading defenses, and leadership all play a bigger role. To just want to move to a guy because he is more mobile is stupid. This is what the Geno thing is. The only thin Geno has over Eli is mobility.

There are zero good QB's in the NFL that are run first. The best guys are the guys who by more time by moving around, like Rogers. However guys like Peyton, Eli, Brady, etc. are all the top guys who don't move that well. Cam and Wilson are the best "mobile" guys, but they can also be pocket guys.
.
arcarsenal : 12/4/2017 6:20 pm : link
When all was said and done, this offense still couldn't even put up 20 points and didn't do anything impressive against a Raiders defense that has, quite frankly, sucked.

Geno didn't play badly; but what was made clear was that the offensive issues stretch far beyond the QB position.
It doesn't sem fair that dep026's Eli doppleganger should be allowed
Butler : 12/4/2017 6:23 pm : link
here when he isn't. Especially when 95 percent of the board seems to be right there with him on Eli now.

It must be because of the two QB s that played the Super Bowl last year, oh sorry that is my mistake it was Brady and Matt Ryan two relatively immobile QBs.

I keep thinking about this story I heard about the Four Horsemen
Bill L : 12/4/2017 6:29 pm : link
Although I can’t recall specifics. Mainly it was about how everyone made a big deal about the Four Horsemen and one day at practice Rockne took away their blockers. What happened belied their reputation.

I feel Eli in that story.
Eli is still part of the Problem
Jeffrey : 12/4/2017 6:32 pm : link
and that will be apparent once all the furor caused by the ineptitude of management dies down. Unless of course, someone has found the fountain of youth or Eli is willing to take a massive pay cut to allow them to sign a competent line. Absent that he remains immobile, bruised and battered and will continue to make mistakes uncharacteristic of the player he was earlier in his career.

Why do people keep blaming his salary for them not signing OL?

They could have signed Andrew Whitworth and others but Reese thought what he had was good enough...
He played well?

Why is it so hard to understand that a QB as unathletic as Eli is a detriment? Really good Olines are a rarity. A QB must be able to run away from pass rushers and advance the ball up the field in open space. Eli can't do that. He is also not good hitting short passes in stride or running a screen pass. The Giants give away routine plays other QBs can make because Eli can't make them.

Eli was much more mobile in the SBs

The league does seem to be moving toward mobile QBs, BUT—and this is a huge BUT—there’s a gulf of difference between a “really good Oline” and the bottom dwellers that Eli’s been playing with. An okay line for the past few years might have made all the difference.

Are you a Giants fan or Just an Eli fan? As a Giants fan, I want to win. People on this board blindly want to continue playing an aging average QB no matter what. Eli Manning was ranked by the players as the most overrated QB in the league. He ranks No. 30 in Total Quarterback Rating (QBR) the past 5 years. Should I still be demanding Cruz play as well.

tony71 : 12/4/2017 8:06 pm : link
is more mobile. Never seen Eli run that much. He ran to the left side, he ran to the right side, he ran and ran and then backwards,he ran here and there all through the game. He was the mobile QB, McAdoo wanted the whole time. hell all that running and he got 13 rushing yards on 3 carries. Pretty sure ive seen Eli run 13 yards in a game awhile back.
I dont buy into a pocket passer isnt the answer. Geno proved yet again the issue was the Oline. The same oline everyone has been bitching at for years. the same years everyone jumped on Eli and said his skills were gone. The pass few years it wasnt the starting QB, yes Eli has had Eli moments, but mostly it was the the poor drafting, the lack of signing good personal during free agency, and the shit poor Coach play calling that couldnt score 30 point.

Believe me, I didn’t forget that most of you know it alls, turn this into a spelling bee when you have little more than criticism to offer. Please show us your masters degree in perfection. Someday youll be old, have vision problems, and thumbs too big for these keyboards. Until then give up on the childish nitpicking.

Yes you are right. Even though we all know this is a team sport, Eli is the only one out there still playing at a pro bowl level. What exactly are those “Eli moments”? The stupid fumbles? How about the audibles to running plays that net -2 yards? How about the third and 8s when he throws a 5 yard pass to a player covered like stink on shit? The high throws? Low throws? Behind the receiver throws? What exactly are his moments?

I actually Manning has lost some of his arm strength. He's not zipping balls over the heads of targets, to my eyes he's floating, and his deep ball looks flatter.

Impossible to prove from the confines of my sofa, but it's what worries me.
Geno played OK
NyquistX3 : 12/4/2017 9:13 pm : link
I wouldn't characterize his play as "well". He made some good plays and some bad ones. He's fine as a backup who can fill in for short spurts but teams are in trouble if he's the long term starter.
were you
tony71 : 12/4/2017 9:14 pm : link
talking about Eli or Geno there? hard to tell, think i saw them both play about the same there.
Look i aint saying Eli isnt above blame, but you say its a team sport, I agree, its just 75% of the team on offense sucks. the play calling sucks.. the coach sucked. I am not happy when i see Eli's pass go over someones head, or receivers not even in the area. I can admit i also dont know what play was called, was it the QB or was it on the receiver. Do these guy know what route they are supposed to be running? Im just saying it is a team, and its more then the QB play at blame. I cant remember how many times i hear, you build a team around the QB strengths and weaknesses.Reese and McAdoo, didnt do that. Thats why Eli, Geo and who ever else they try to put behind the line will be just as bad every time.
