That speed, agility and balance (at 235) ...
Combine comparison with OBJ (who is 40 pounds lighter) ....
OBJ - 4.43 forty, 38.5 vertical, 6.69 three cone
Engram - 4.4 forty, 36 vertical, 6.92 three cone
The Giants picked up TE Ellison, who can BLOCK and catch, they don't need a stallion like Engram getting beat-up by 300 pound linemen.
With OBJ back he gets covered by LB's and Safeties which are mismatches
I give him that, but I'd rather see him knocking down 200 pound CBs and safeties (like Plaxico used to, in the run game)
Not too many CBs can stop him (short of Richard Sherman)
I don't understand why we should want to move him when he's excelling where he is.

Engram TD vs Oak - ( New Window )
Engram is multi tool/route guy. He lines up outside and in the slot as well as inline and the backfield. Why do you want to change his position? He can play anywhere.
As a tight end he is a mismatch. Not sure you can get that from him flanked wide on every play.
Put a little beef on him and some intense blocking coaching and he'll be a star.
Engram is best at TE. He is already an average blocker and will get better because he wants to improve. He is a complete mismatch for Ss and LBs. He would not be for top cover CBs.
They follow the ball like watching 'PONG' and check the scoreboard occasionally. It all looks the same I hear.
And it doesn't mean that he can't line up out wide, as he did a couple of times on Sunday.
I give him that, but I'd rather see him knocking down 200 pound CBs and safeties (like Plaxico used to, in the run game)
Not too many CBs can stop him (short of Richard Sherman)
+1... for those that want him to play inline TE.. why let him get the abuse that comes with inline blocking DEs and LBs.. when we can abuse the CBs.. ideal position for him would be in the slot but we already have shepard..
As a Kelvin Benjamin (Carolina Panthers) type receiver, who by-the-way, bigger at 6'5", 243.
Benjamin is a terror on the outside as a pass receiver and blocker on the run game.
The Giants tried had to make Brandon Marshall "that guy", opposite OBJ, it didn't work out. That's OK, they have Engram.
Engram's a TE. Playing on the line is part of the job. We're nowhere near the point where his blocking is bad enough to say he shouldn't play there.
Even the Panthers don't consider Benjamin a Panthers guy anymore!!
I mentioned Engram as a Panther because most people recognize him with his original team.
Carolina traded him because they need a speedy receiver as their "X", we don't have that problem, when OBJ comes back. I see Engram as the perfect "Y" possession type.
About Marshall (season #12) - I was looking forward to him complimenting OBJ because he's a big strong guy, too (6'5", 232). Unfortunately, he started off slow and then he got hurt. If he comes back strong, that's wonderful.
C'mon - it just gets fucking worse and worse.
So Kelvin had to go, because they had Funchess who can play the big man role (and probably cost less $$$).

Benjamin is a Possession receiver; big body that can play like an NBA center in the intermediate zones and go up for the ball (fades etc.) in the "Green" zone.
Engram is a terrific player now at 235. I don't want to see him get fattened up to 260 so he can wrestle with the big boys. That would be a shame.
