My wife wants a David Yurman ring I just looked at them and the reasonable goes for $600-900 depending on size, and style etc. I will probably get one for her but it got me thinking
Last year it was a long weekend at a bed and breakfast. This year it was a new couch. This way we avoid the anxiety that one of us is outdoing the gift the other one is buying, making the first want to spend more money - a vicious cycle in which we both lose.
but that's also due to circumstance. Toddler, mortgage, daycare, etc. Just makes no sense to go all out on a gift right now. Pre kid I used to do great gifts but neither of us want them anymore.
We are doing a secret Santa this year with the adults. $50 max for each gift, done and done. I'll probably pick up something on the side for my wife and that's going to be it.

We care about each other obviously, but we both really only care about the kids. Who are spoiled, but great kids. She does ok too, but has no expectations or demands. Its nice.
my girlfriend is a pain in this regard. we agree to no gifts and then she buys some. She also just gives them to me as they come instead of waiting for xmas. She won't tell me a target price when I ask, but it appears to be 300 this year
then we both break it and get a few things. Hard to not.
This year will be easier to NOT, since I think our bathroom remodel will begin not too long before Christmas, so ... 115-year-old house, which we've lived in for 19 years so the bathroom upgrade is long overdue. That'll be plenty for us.
Thats life my friend...same here. but, we keep doing it..LOL.. happy wife is a happy life, or something like that.
Well maybe a few hundred....

Its more like "happy wife = happy wife".
What's that worth, like a buck seventy five?
