Clearly being dapper is a crucial ingredient to being a successful NFL coach.
Oh.
Belichick looks good there. You don't have to look dapper you just have to look and be prepared to present yourself in a professional manner that associates itself to winning. It's not about what he wore, it's about he didn't care how it looked or he was unprepared.
RE: RE: Should have known he was unprepared on day one... Â
Y'know, there's a serious point in that picture: Anybody needs to understand where they are in their career and be able to present themselves accordingly. If you're going to be the head coach of a New York pro sports franchise, you're going to need to attend events in a suit, or a tux, or whatever. You don't have to love it, but you have to do it competently. You don't have to become a clothes horse, you don't have to be Pat Riley, but you have to have a few suits that fit properly.
And that means you either know how to get that stuff or be self-aware enough to know you don't, and to go to someone at a very good NYC men's store (or, even a personal stylist) and get advice on style and fit. Showing up in a suit that bad indicates a kind of ignorance -- he wasn't prepared and didn't take the steps to get himself prepared.
I think some of the same issues showed up in his coaching. He stuck to his own judgement even when he should have taken advice from others.
Or am I reading too much into this?

Yeah that's during a game, a little different than an introductory press conference introducing you as the new head coach of the NEW YORK GIANTS.

You're reading too much into it.
His fucking suit was the least of his crimes.
