So Eli is 22nd best QB. Really?

Painless62 : 12/5/2017 3:54 pm
By no means am I saying Eli is a top 5 QB. However I don't think his ranking is realistic. If he had an O Line, a running game and a more vertical offense, he would be what he always has been. A borderline top 10 QB who gets better than that under the pressure of the playoffs. When everyone feels the pressure, he obviously doesn't. Just look at last years playoff game. He absolutely can win and be dangerous in the playoffs with the right pieces, probably for several more years. Thoughts?
Do those rankings even matter, whatever they are
BigBlue4You09 : 12/5/2017 3:55 pm : link
We all know what he's capable of. But he's older and definitely declined playing with very little talent around him.
22nd - no.
section125 : 12/5/2017 3:59 pm : link
the offense might be that bad or worse, but Eli is a victim of no WR, no RB and no OLine.(No HC)

The ranking is useless this season.
Meh

Who would those same "rankers" want in the last 2 minutes???

"You are what your record says you are." Having said that, we know the issues today are team issues as much as anything else, and not necessarily a reflection of what Eli is capable of achieving. If the new GM and HC are successful at fixing the OL and running game, IMO Eli will put up much better numbers
Thoughts?

Yes, be secure enough in yourself that what people rank your QB at doesn't set you off.
Eli hasn't been very good in 2017
81_Great_Dane : 12/5/2017 4:08 pm : link
but I don't think Tom Brady or Aaron Rogers would excel on this Giants team. Terrible line, very limited corps of receivers, no running game. Whatcha gonna do?

it would be hard to argue Eli is much better than that.

but if the discussion is what is he capable of, then one could argue with all the right pieces in place he can be a top 10-13 QB... but will those pieces be in place next year or the year after?

or will we sit through 2 more years of sub par offensive play (incl QB) and listen to the same arguments re: OLine, WR, etc.. while our potential future QB gets no in game action.

He was talking about the team, not individuals.
22nd?
Csonka : 12/5/2017 4:25 pm : link
I see him 25th in QBR. And he was 27th last year.
We all love Eli. A ton of this is on the o-line, the WRs, and the system. But he's not all that anymore.

I don't like McAdoo and the way he went about it, but Eli isn't playing well. He isn't the only problem, but he also isn't the answer. QBR stats don't tell the whole story but they don't totally lie either.

Tired of hearing that Eli would succeed if he had a strong line, a good running game and talented receivers. Any journeyman could succeed under those conditions.

It works just as well either way. And in Eli's case, this year has been a reflection of the team's failures (of which he contributed)

eli threw for 35 TDs in 2015. 30 in 2014. ton of yards too. low INT #s both years. they were 11-5 last year and he was the best offensive player in the road playoff game in GB, while his WR corps were running around shirtless in the cold giggling at their nipples tingling, pre-game.

eli had a bad 2013, and for a lot of reasons. but your characterization of his last 5-6 years is ridiculous.

Interesting list. Do you have the Dak with Zeke or without Zeke on this list? B/c Dak w/out Zeke is worse than Eli

Right. He was very good in 2014 and 2015, but it's as if you guys forget how bad the oline and run game were those years too. "If only he had a great line, a stellar run game and great receivers he would be so good right now!"

Eli allowed Reuben Randle and Larry Donnell to look respectable back then. He can't do that anymore. Eli in his prime would be elevating the play of the whole offense around him. Now he needs everything to be great around him.

So for those that want to keep him, what exactly is your plan to give him Dallas' line and the Saints rushing offense this offseason? Otherwise it will be more of the same.
22nd sounds about right

RetroJint : 12/5/2017 5:55 pm : link
The franchise quarterback at Met Life, the one who wears green, lit up the same KC defense that Eli couldn't crease the goal line against . With a who-am-I offensive line , backs similar to the Giants, and a receiver named Anderson , who is a developing star because he's getting the ball delivered to him downfield .

What's that guy making : 6 million plus 125K for each start . Not bad production .

I stand by my comment... in 5/6 years, he had 2 good years. He was mostly mediocre to bad in that time frame which is what I said.

QB rating isn't the end all be all but go look at his rankings from 2012 to current... very pedestrian.

Eli is a decent QB... not much more... at this point. Not much more.

And since I suspect we are in a bit of a rebuild for the next 2+ years, I would prefer we start fresh with all new parts (GM, HC, top 3 draft pick QB) and build this thing from the ground up.

Btw
hassan : 12/6/2017 8:29 am : link
Eli also played with a historic player in Beckham in 14/15.

Team's learned to scheme for Beckham with Mac under the helm.

Lots of qbs would look good throwing to 13.
In other words
hassan : 12/6/2017 8:30 am : link
An avg qb looks great with Beckham and a decent scheme which we had in 14/15. Once the d schemes took Odell away more and Mac could not make team's pay we see the regression.

fair enough. i disagree and would argue he was well above "decent and not much more" both last year (and especially in the playoff game) and in 2012. his TD numbers were down slightly in 2012 since nicks got badly injured early in the season, and down slightly last year, as mcadoo went to the 11 personnel offense. this year i give him a bit of a pass since he is without his starting 4 WRs and his OL has managed to regress ever-further.

if you wanna pin all of this on eli's diminishing skillset, i think that's unfair. he looks pretty much the same as he ever was to me, maybe a little slower to escape when things are collapsing around him.

LG in NYC : 12/6/2017 4:49 pm : link
I have never pinned this all on Eli. Not once. This team has been a mess for years beyond Eli.

But I won't completely absolve him as many here do, and wonder if it makes sense to continue with him as we do some type of rebuild here.
