NFT: 12/6: Knicks (11-12) vs Grizzlies (8-15) 730pm KP Probable

LawrenceTaylor56 : 12/6/2017 8:36 am
Couple notes:

-Tim Hardaway will be out at least 2 weeks, where he will then get his leg re-evaluated. A lot of misinformation out there right now, so it's hard to gauge what's going on.

-Frank hasn't had a steal in 7 games, getting fouls, and has still hesitant on offense. He should be starting over Sweaty Morpheus though. He needs to be playing with scorers since right now he isn't one.

Last game vs Indiana
Frank: 2/11 7 points with 3 assists and a -5.

Ron Baker: 2/3 9 points, 4 assists and +16

-Dotson started the last 2 games but didn't impress offensively. His on the ball defense is good though.

-Trey Burke (Michigan Man) 39 points on 16-25 (6-7 behind the arc), 2 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals in one block down in the G-League.

Tonight

Looking forward to getting KP back tonight. Obviously makes the world of difference but I'm glad they are being cautious with his health.
- Frank is going to struggle. He's 19. I'd like to see Hornacek let him sink or swim a little more.
-I honestly don't know much about Burke but I see no reason why he shouldn't be on the roster over Sessions.
- I know Baker plays hard and gives you solid defense, but you are playing 4 vs 5 on offense when he's on the floor. Very hard to know especially with a guard.

The thing with bringing Burke up is you can't give him a 10 day contract. You have to fully guarantee his contract if you do. I think the Knicks will wait until January to do so.
January is when
LawrenceTaylor56 : 12/6/2017 9:56 am : link
you can start handing out 10 day contracts.
I've been watching a decent amount of the Westchester Knicks
Pep22 : 12/6/2017 10:00 am : link
In Utah and to a lesser extent in Washington, Burke had two major problems:

1) as a high pick, he seemed to have a little "prima-donna" in him >>> he looks "humbled" to me (i.e. he's working very hard)

2) he's 6'1" (max) and was slight of build >>> he is much more sturdy now in terms of his physique

Offensively, he's definitely a score first PG. He has a high skill level (great handle, understands how to create space, has a lot of change of direction/speed moves in his arsenal). He is not by any means a gifted passer but is a reasonably willing passer.

On another note, Isiah Hicks (signed to a 2 way contract) has been very impressive. Defensively and on the boards, he is very athletic and active. He's 6'9" and well built and plays like it. On offense, he has good hands and finishing ability around the rim. His shot is adequate from 15 and in but you don't want him taking shots from distance.

DanMetroMan : 12/6/2017 11:20 am : link
fairness to Hornacek, he HAS played Frank a reasonable amount but he's been an absolute zero offensively recently. Hornacek is trying to win games and is missing his 2 best offensive players. It's tough run Frank out there more than he has been. Last 4 games 28% from the field 12% from 3... 1 assist per game. I'd be the first one to trash Hornacek for not playing "the kids" but I 100% understand the Frank usage right now (and he played 27 minutes Monday).
Looks like James Dolan is getting caught up
Keith : 12/6/2017 11:59 am : link
in the Harvey Weinstein scandal!

Dolan, who was a director of the Weinstein Company from mid-2015 to June 2016, "knew of Weinstein's pattern and practice of predatory sexual conduct toward women from his personal relationship with Weinstein and his position as a director of TWC," according to the Manhattan Federal Court lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday.

The lawsuit naming Dolan as a defendant was filed by six women: Louisette Geiss, Katherine Kendall, Zoe Brock, Sarah Ann Thomas, Melissa Sagemiller and Nannette Klatt.

They also claim Weinstein’s former production company was "complicit" in this behavior and subsequent cover-ups.

why are we starting Lance Thomas..
Italianju : 12/6/2017 6:56 pm : link
im fine with Dotson not starting since he needs to stop looking like he is afraid of the basketball, but why not give McBuckets a shot to start. I hate watching Thomas play basketball

KOQ is just a bit craftier on the defensive end against a guy like Gasol.
Courtney Lee is awesome

That was nice
djm : 12/6/2017 10:05 pm : link
Granted they beat a pretty bad Memphis team but still a needed win. Last year they probably lose this game. Lee was key to tonight. Holding it together at 500. Frank had some moments too. He needs a lot of work but at least he's contributing as a rookie while getting experience.

Kanter kind of got abused by gasol. I really focused on Kanter a few Games back. Can't remember the opponent but In the fourth quarter of a close game Kanter was exposed badly on the defensive end. He's worth keeping but the Knicks have to get a defensive Big who can play down the stretch of games when needed. Kanter has value but he also has limitations.
nice win over a lousy team
Enzo : 12/6/2017 10:27 pm : link
Now for the negatives!
-Lance has the rare ability to look like he's never played basketball before for long stretches.
-we're not shooting enough 3s
-crazy that Jack only attempted 6 free throws all season prior to tonight
Gasol
TyreeHelmet : 12/6/2017 10:36 pm : link
Needs to get himself out of Memphis. That team isn't terrible and he's still a great player. He was noticeably frustrated.

And whoever gave Chandler Parsons 100 million needs to be fired.

Lance Thomas played at Duke. How the hell can he look so clueless at everything?
I missed the game but I see from the box score that Lance was +26
Del Shofner : 12/6/2017 11:59 pm : link
in 32 minutes - while the rest of his stats were minimal (although he didn't miss any shots). I know +/- can be deceiving but +26 in 32 is pretty good. Did he at least defend well?
Mine is a general statement on lance
Ten Ton Hammer : 12/7/2017 12:10 am : link
Didn't see tonight's game
again, I missed the game, but here is the Post reporting on Lance:
Del Shofner : 12/7/2017 10:12 am : link
With Tim Hardaway Jr. out for a few weeks, the Knicks needed leadership, and the team’s co-captains didn’t let them down Wednesday. Courtney Lee and Lance Thomas, voted the club’s co-captains before the season, carried the Knicks in a 99-88 victory over the Grizzlies at the Garden.

In their first game since it was announced Hardaway will be out indefinitely, Lee was a blizzard of offense and Thomas, thrust into the starting lineup, brought the effort on the defensive end.

Lee spearheaded a rally from 12 points down in the first half with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting as the club got back to .500 ( 12-12) after losing five of its previous six. Thomas scored just eight points, but finished a team-high plus-26.

“What was Tim?’’ Lee asked. “Tim was shooting like 18, 20 shots a game. So I need to warm this arm up and get ready. If I’m going to shoot that many times on top of my shots that’s like 30 shots. If he wants me to do that, I’ll just go out there and be aggressive.”

The buzz of the postgame locker room, though was Thomas’ defense and his vocal leadership after the team fell behind.
“I just want to give a lot of credit to Lance,’’ Enes Kanter said. “He just plays so hard, I love his energy and he’s always on us. He’s always talking about bringing us together. He’s one of the leaders — that’s why we picked him captain.”

----------
So, I get that Lance is not loved on BBI, but unless the Post's reporting is completely inaccurate (not out of the question), he's one of the leaders of the team.
I don't doubt he is a leader
nygiants16 : 12/7/2017 10:22 am : link
But at least for me my biggest gripe is he tries to do to much, k don't want him driving and throwing up wild shots..

Stick to hard defense and shooting open 3s and I am good

Lance is basically the QB of the Knicks defense. He is barking and ordering knicks players all over the court. His on the ball D is solid as his is off the ball D. His offensive game pretty much blows and he should never be allowed to shoot off the dribble but Thomas has a place in the NBA. I do hate when he shoots though.
and you don't need to read any articles on Lance
djm : 12/7/2017 10:34 am : link
just watch the games and focus on Thomas when the Knicks are playing defense. He's a maniac out there. Constantly instructing players to move or operate in proper defensive fashion.

His offense leaves a lot to be desired but this is not Jared Jeffries we're talking about. Thomas is more than just a good defender. He orchestrates the defense. And as mentioned he's locker room glue.

Knicks need this guy. He's a major reason why the defense is much better.

I was having a perfectly good morning until you brought up, and reminded me of, Jared Jeffries.
What I hate is when he has a wide open shooter in corner
nygiants16 : 12/7/2017 10:44 am : link
And instead of swinging it to that player he fakes and tries to drive and always gets called for steps...

Not to mention his famous foot on the line long 2
his offense is terrible
djm : 12/7/2017 11:30 am : link
can't argue that. That long release of his...the long two pointer...ugly.
If Lance could score, he'd be a fantastic NBA starter.
Heisenberg : 12/7/2017 11:37 am : link
as it is, he's a valuable role player and a good fit for what the Knicks need with the young guys they have.

Seriously. He literally should be told to NEVER put the ball on the floor. Just stand in the corner on offense, if you get an open 3 take it. Otherwise do not touch the ball on offense and under NO circumstances should he ever even consider driving to the basket.
