The Rangers have signed LHP Mike Minor to a 3 year $28 million dollar contract. They are reportedly considering giving him a chance to start. He was excellent for KC out of the pen last season with a 2.55 ERA and 88K's in 77.2 IP.

Indians sign RP Dan Otero to a 2 year $2.5 million dollar contract.

Phillies sign former Braves prospect C Abrahan Gutierrez.

Angels sign SS prospect Luis Soto along with Kevin Maitan.

Cards sign SP Miles Mikolas to a 2 year $15.5 million dollar deal. Mikolas pitched in Japan the past 3 years and the Cards obviously are high on him.

That, and the real action is next year with that free agent class. I expect it to be quiet this year, particularly because the Yankees will lay in the weeds waiting to go after Machado.

It is unbelievable. It is so different than the NFL free agency when nearly every big name FA signs immediately.

There will be several teams going after Machado. I know Atlanta will have money to burn and I expect them to be a frontrunner for Machado depending on Austin Riley.
I wonder if the gap between player expectations

and what teams are willing to pay is wider with impending tax reform -- which looks like it will disallow corporate entertainment expense deductions.

Play that through and I imagine teams over the next 2 years will have to reduce pricing on premium seating. Combined with cord cutting, if I'm an owner, i'm not exactly forecasting revenue growth in my budgeting.
anyone have a list of all the MLB free agents?

apparently Rafael Palmiero is seriously interested in making an attempt at a comeback. he's 53 and hasn't played in a dozen years. I can't begin to imagine the odds against. but have to believe.... oh, I don't know what to believe. my first thought though was, what magical enhanced performance drug has he found?

At least rumors start and usually one decent signing and trade prior to winter meetings. Specifically every year I remember being annoyed around thanksgiving because there are no updates for those three days, now there are just no updates

Last 4 seasons-

Moreland 33/42 fWAR at 1b... guys worse -Ryan Howard, Chris Johnson, James Loney, Adam LaRoche, Pedro Alvarez, CJ Cron, Mark Reynolds, Chris Carter and Mark Teixeira (yeah mostly retired...)

wRC+ 39/42... worse Chris Johnson, Ryan Howard, James Loney

wOBA 36/42... worse Chris Johnson, Ryan Howard, Loney, Brandon Moss, Pujols, LaRoche

Really truly beyond perplexed how someone could not "hate it". He's awful.

Yanks should swoop in and offer the 3mm international money for a nice package of young talent. It looks like the M's are all in for Ohtani.
Might as well bring Duda

Cubs

I'd love to see the reaction around baseball
bceagle05 : 12/8/2017 12:27 am : link
if Jeter winds up trading Stanton to the Yankees. I think he's headed for the Dodgers though.
Imagine having Stanton, Judge, and Sanchez
Dave in Hoboken : 12/8/2017 12:29 am : link
in the middle of the lineup for the next decade or so?

I'd die.

Teams can't even stop Judge and Sanchez (as we saw this year). Adding Stanton wouldn't even be fair.
Yeah, I think Stanton will end up in LA
illmatic : 12/8/2017 12:42 am : link
if he really won't go to the Giants. But that's okay. I'd rather not see the Yankees trade for him if it means they wouldn't add Machado or Harper next year. And his contract might be horrendous in just a few years depending on how he ages.
98% certain Yanks have
section125 : 12/8/2017 7:23 am : link
very little interest in Stanton because of the $30 mill/year he is being paid. They are getting under the luxury tax, period.

Machado turns 26 in July. You have to figure he will command at least 10 years $300M, and that may well end up being on the low end of both years and average annual salary. Machado is an absolute stud. Perennial gold glove and silver slugger type player. I doubt his injury history ends up dampening the frenzy that will be his free agency.
That sounds like a Stanton type contract
xman : 12/8/2017 10:32 pm : link
too much and way too long. Then there is the annoying opt out on the players side after 5 years. No risk at all for the player . Owners shoulder all the downside. The trend to shorter contracts will even the field a bit.
