Browns reached agreement with former Chiefs GM John Dorsey to become Cleveland’s new GM, sources tell @mortreport and me.
With the Giants on the search, the Browns didn't want to lose getting their guy. Of course, there was speculation by some on BBI (giants2000) that the Browns were interested in Reese.

Browns did not just begin process today. Dorsey was among a handful of candidates not currently affiliated with a team who was free to talk wit clubs, including the @Browns.

Browns already have interveiwed other GM candidates and have satisfied the Rooney Rule, per sources. And now, John Dorsey is their new GM.

As @RapSheet said earlier today, #Browns were honing in on John Dorsey (and vetting other options) for weeks. Knew their plan before firing Sashi Brown. Everybody said they need someone who knows players. Well, Dorsey knows players — and inherits a lot of resources to get them.
John Wooten, chairman of Fritz Pollard Alliance, is concerned about Browns’ hiring process. “I’m deeply bothered by it,” Wooten said. “I’ll be talking to the league about it because it bothers me. It doesn’t seem right. Why wouldn’t you interview one of the recommended people?”
have been scared shitless when Reese was let go. Everyone with a half a brain knew Ben was on his way out, but Jerry must have caught the Browns by surprise.

4-year contract for #Browns new GM John Dorsey, have been talking to him for 5-6 weeks. Will have final say over the roster. Satisfied the Rooney Rule

John Dorsey will start in Cleveland with this: 5 picks in the first two rounds, and 12 in the first six rounds of the 2018 draft, plus over $100 million in cap space.
"If John Dorsey is going to be the guy, you get the jump on the New York Giants, which is something that I heard today from a league source was 'hey, they're doing this now to make a run at Dorsey because the Giants are interested too,'" Bleacher Report's Matt Miller said on the Bull and Fox Show. is that they are very deliberate with stuff like this. Dorsey is probably pretty good. That a team would jump out and do this now isn't surprising, but it's also not surprising that the Giants don't appear to be in any kind of urgency to handle this. And I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Would’ve been a strong candidate for the Giants GM job. Former Panthers GM Dave Gettleman is now the one to watch for the Giants.
“According to league sources, Haslam considered this a timely opportunity to hire a new football boss, similar to a move the Packers once exercised when they hired Ron Wolf as general manager in late November 1991. Wolf considered it an advantage to get an early read on the Packers' roster and the coaching staff before he turned around a franchise that had grown irrelevant for more than 20 years. Wolf hired Dorsey to join his personnel staff and has been a mentor.” Link - ( New Window )
were negotiating with Sashi's replacement. Stay classy, Cleveland.
It's entirely possible that the Browns had already told Sashi that they'd be parting ways at the end of the season and just accelerated their timing because of the Giants. It's not necessarily a nefarious plot unless it did all happen behind Sashi's back. Have there been any indications either way yet?
... that Dorsey looks at the Cleveland situation and the Giants and decides Cleveland is better.
"John Dorsey will start in Cleveland with this: 5 picks in the first two rounds, and 12 in the first six rounds of the 2018 draft, plus over $100 million in cap space."
And a franchise with a strong history and nowhere to go but up.
This would have any decent potential GM drooling.....

Watching NFLN this morning, and they had a report that Sashi was out scouting these past few weeks while the behind the scene search was going on. Perhaps, Sashi was aware of being let go at the end of the season, but I have to assume that he had no idea that he would be let go on Dec. 7th. The timing of having Sashi in his seat doing his job while the Rooney Rule is being satisfied and then negotiating with Sashi's replacement for 5-6 weeks just doesn't seem right. That timeline puts the Browns starting the process back before Halloween. If Sashi was indeed aware, then it is odd for him to continue to do the scouting instead of assigning the task to another.

That's a fair point - I wasn't aware of that. It's not uncommon for an executive in any industry to be given a termination date well into the future, but they're usually not asked to continue anything that would affect the company beyond their remaining service time, so I stand corrected.

Great Mara and co keeping the status quo. First will be Gettleman then John Fox as HC.

I'm not saying the report is definitive. Just what I heard listening while drinking coffee. Some organizations deserve the benefit of the doubt in how they run their business. The Browns? Nope. Haslam himself is still under investigation for fraud with regards to the Pilot Flying J.
I laughed so hard

??
If Gettleman is an accessory hire to a new blood GM then I am more than fine w that, but I don’t think he should be the guy.
