NFT: Rangers @ Gods of the Second Round Exit, 7 pm

Shattenkirk on Trotz comments:

“It doesn’t sit well with you. It’s nothing that you enjoy hearing,” said Shattenkirk, 28, who has primarily played on the Rangers’ second pairing, “but I think there’s a lot of people who probably think that about me, and I like to use that in my favor and something to boost me to prove people wrong.”

5 point night coming! I hope.

becoming a habit ... forget first minute ... it's becoming a habit
baadbill : 12/8/2017 7:13 pm : link
in the first 10 seconds ... wtf is THAT all about? How can you repeatedly not have your head into the game in the first 10 seconds? You forget your pregame pee or something?
Awful period
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 7:43 pm : link
Lucky to only be down one. Regroup.

If I see one more fucking defender flub an easy clear and give it right to the other team ... Jesus Holden
Wow, looked like
section125 : 12/8/2017 7:46 pm : link
both teams sleep walking through the 1st period. What a difference from the Yinzer game.
Why do you think the Caps were sleep walking?
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 7:52 pm : link
They had 17 shots and passed up or narrowly missed on another 5 high quality ones. Still can't believe Ovi passed on a wide open slot shot he makes 9 times out of 10.
Fuck Holtby is in form tonight
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 8:04 pm : link
Some terrific saves.

Separately I got a feed that bettman said cap going to 78-82 mil next year. About fucking time. Tavares just got a lot more expensive for whoever gets him.
Last Ny born player
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 8:14 pm : link
To score first goal as a ranger - I'm going to go with Captain Callahan. Buffalo native right?

Post. We can't buy a goal this period.
Holtby knocks his net off
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 8:20 pm : link
Love how love taps like Zuccs 'slash' earlier are a penalty but that obvious delay of game to thwart a prime scoring chance isnt
Oh fuck me
Greg from LI : 12/8/2017 8:24 pm : link
Bad bounce of Zuc's skate goes right to Backstrom and of course he scores. Rangers have totally dominated this period yet fall further behind.
The King's just an average goalie nowadays.
yatqb : 12/8/2017 8:35 pm : link
Reminds me of Eli, who's not what he once was either.
Good period
bigbluehoya : 12/8/2017 8:37 pm : link
Stay the course
Eh, hard to blame Lundqvist for that goal
Greg from LI : 12/8/2017 8:40 pm : link
You give a guy like Backstron a wide open chance right in front like that and he'll bury it quite a few times.

Great board work by JT to get one back before the break. Good period overall, keep playing like that and they'll have chances to win.
Big goal by:
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 8:41 pm : link
He'd Grab-ner by the Pussy but nowadays he'd be sued and shamed 20 years later so not worth it

Good period. Keep it up
I don't know how one sees Backstroms goal
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 8:43 pm : link
And blames Lundqvist. That's as point blank a chance as comes in this league and by one of the best puck handlers of this era to boot.

If anything Holden's flubbing in our zone which eventually led to a clumsy pass right at zuccs feet from way too close .. and took a bad bounce ... was to blame
I thought the pass was Grabner, not Holden?
Greg from LI : 12/8/2017 8:44 pm : link

Nvm, misunderstood what you were saying

MAB, I wasn't blaming him for that goal, or for the 1st one. But he doesn't make as many brilliant saves as in the past, and lets in more easy ones too. He's still a good goalie; just not great anymore, imo...despite that very nice save.

And Quickie!
Gotta love that
Stufftherun : 12/8/2017 9:15 pm : link
smart and scrappy 4th line! They’ve really got it going.
Have to hand it to Carey, that was some hard work leading up to that
Greg from LI : 12/8/2017 9:16 pm : link
Goal.

Brand new game now, let's win this sucker
Fourth line has been great lately
Kyle in NY : 12/8/2017 9:16 pm : link
Amazing what happens once we got back to putting actual hockey players down there instead of sleds like Tanner Glass
God damnit
bigbluehoya : 12/8/2017 9:18 pm : link
Shitty penalty, Smitty
Hooking? Lulz
Greg from LI : 12/8/2017 9:19 pm : link
No hooking whatsoever
Good kill
Greg from LI : 12/8/2017 9:23 pm : link

Is anyone surprised
redbeard : 12/8/2017 9:27 pm : link
For fucks sake
McD looking
Stufftherun : 12/8/2017 9:28 pm : link
into the corner/behind the net and the puck was in front of Hank.
They looked awful for the last couple of minutes before that goal
Greg from LI : 12/8/2017 9:30 pm : link
Just completely disorganized, like chickens with their heads cut off
The goal was bs , burkowski
Essex : 12/8/2017 9:30 pm : link
Freaking dragged down Carey and should have been called about 30 seconds before goal
Come on McDonagh
bigbluehoya : 12/8/2017 9:30 pm : link
To that fucking sled? Give me a break
well sh*t
baadbill : 12/8/2017 9:30 pm : link

McD again
Stufftherun : 12/8/2017 9:31 pm : link
with poor position ...Wilson walked right around him. Not the best look for the captain on those two goals.
Not a good start to this brutal 9 day stretch
MetsAreBack : 12/8/2017 9:33 pm : link
Fuck Vigneault teams late and close. I'm expecting late losses under him for whatever reason
Well that's how you get last nights stink out
MetsAreBack : 12/9/2017 9:40 pm : link
Great work tonight. Especially by the Hayes line - I've been critical of Kevin all year but he and his line shut down a red hot Taylor Hall line tonight and a beautiful top shelf to ice the game as well. Quickie deserves a lot of credit as well.

Well done. Bring on Dallas. Hopefully we get vintage Hank on Monday since a year ago he had maybe his career low at home against them.

Looking forward to getting through this absolutely brutal 9 day stretch.
Brutal for the players ... but I love all the hockey.
baadbill : 12/9/2017 9:48 pm : link

Big performance tonight
Kyle in NY : 12/9/2017 10:47 pm : link
In this division, they could not afford to not get points out of this back to back and they played accordingly. Nash/Hayes had struggled the last few games and Fast gave them a nice boost coming onto their line. They shut down the Hall line and got two themselves. Well done
I do think it's a little crazy that Hank played the back to back
MetsAreBack : 12/10/2017 10:23 am : link
Pavelec was awesome in Pittsburgh ... they need to give him more burn. Might have been because these were division games - I hope they give Ondrej either the Dallas or Ottawa game (maybe after hanks performances up there in the playoffs they go with OP)... and one of the back to backs next weekend.

MAB I wonder how much input Allaire has into these decisions??
I'm leaving my office Christmas party
MetsAreBack : 12/11/2017 8:29 pm : link
Is my phone broken? Do we really have 7 shots on goal in 35 minutes against Dallas? That can't be right.
Outshot 33-10 through two periods according to my phone
MetsAreBack : 12/11/2017 8:42 pm : link
Somehow only down 1-0.

Lindy Ruff has apparently done a magnificent job getting us ready to play his former club.
10 shots in 2 periods ... wtf?

Feels like
JoeMoney19 : 12/11/2017 8:46 pm : link
the Rangers’ holiday party was last night and Pavelec was the only one that had to drive.
Who the hell is Julius Honka??

Second career goal, first this year. Healthy scratch last game so he’s “fresh” tonight. There wasn’t a single Ranger on his side of the ice when he got the puck and scored. Vesey and McD were both on the ice and seemed caught out of position. This just after killing two overlapping penalties with 50 seconds of 5-on-3.
Haha
JoeMoney19 : 12/11/2017 9:24 pm : link
Wow. Nash has been working hard though, well deserved.
We stole a point
MetsAreBack : 12/11/2017 9:34 pm : link
take it and run
Well at least Pavelec looks good
Kyle in NY : 12/11/2017 10:41 pm : link
and we stole a point while two teams were chasing lost in regulation.

That's about all I got for tonight. Brutal performance. After a really strong effort Saturday. This group just doesn't make sense sometimes.
I don't understand why
Rover : 12/12/2017 7:15 am : link
there are so few Ranger threads and posts this season
Apparently Hitchcock is up in arms that our goal counted
MetsAreBack : 12/12/2017 7:17 am : link
Even though their goalie was well outside the blue paint.

I won't hold my breath but the league really needs to refine this rule. If the goalie needs more space then expand the blue paint area but as far as I'm concerned if he's outside the blue paint it's not the forwards problem if he's jnterfered with unless it's a 'holding' or 'roughing' call or whatever

Still don't understand how Nash interfered with floridas goalie a few weeks back
...
BrettNYG10 : 12/12/2017 10:13 am : link
It looked to me like the goalie avoided Nash and there was no contact? I agree, the rules are bad.

Pavelec should start Wednesday - give him a few games, let Lundqvist rest.
