I'm trying to think of another coach speaking of a former player that way, especially during the season, and coming up empty.

..the reality is I dont know what the fuck Trotz is talking about. St Louis was a playoff team and opted to trade him... Washington only gave up a tail end of 1st round pick for him... which is 2nd pair value... and the Rangers signed him to second pair money.

So pretty much the entire league thinks he's more of a second pair guy ... who can play on your top PP unit.

He's basically IMO a younger version of Keith Yandle... which is valuable to a lot of teams.

Unfortunately for us, the Capitals are an awesome December/January team. If only Stanley Cups were decided this time of year, the Caps would have 20 of them by now. So we're probably fucked.

Realistically, this is the start of 6 games in 9 days and i dont we see Mika for any of them. I'd love 8 points in 6 games, would settle for 6 points in 6 games, even 5 points over this stretch wouldnt be terrible. We are playing 5 teams currently in playoff position plus Ottawa on the road which was an overtime away from SCF last year... and has taken over the Bell Centre as Hank's house of horrors. This is the beginning of a brutal stretch here.

Game is on NHL network so I'll be able to watch down here in FL. Caps have been inconsistent but they put together a real solid game against the Blackhawks earlier in the week after beating San Jose (which we almost never do) before that. Lots of season left but I'd like to see them put some distance between them and the last playoff spot. None of it means squat until April, anyway (unless ya' don't get in the tourney). MAB, I wasn't blaming him for that goal, or for the 1st one. But he doesn't make as many brilliant saves as in the past, and lets in more easy ones too. He's still a good goalie; just not great anymore, imo...despite that very nice save.

Great work tonight. Especially by the Hayes line - I've been critical of Kevin all year but he and his line shut down a red hot Taylor Hall line tonight and a beautiful top shelf to ice the game as well. Quickie deserves a lot of credit as well.

In this division, they could not afford to not get points out of this back to back and they played accordingly. Nash/Hayes had struggled the last few games and Fast gave them a nice boost coming onto their line. They shut down the Hall line and got two themselves. Well done

Pavelec was awesome in Pittsburgh ... they need to give him more burn. Might have been because these were division games - I hope they give Ondrej either the Dallas or Ottawa game (maybe after hanks performances up there in the playoffs they go with OP)... and one of the back to backs next weekend.
