Ex-Knick Chris Smith, the younger brother of J.R. Smith, has signed a 3-year deal with Israeli team Ironi Nahariya in the first division, league sources say. Smith, who was with the Knicks during J.R. Smith's tenure in New York, has also converted to Judaism. His agreement with Ironi Nahariya was first reported by David Pick. Daniel Hazan, Chris Smith's agent, helped him through the process of religious conversion, he says.

There are 16 teams that are eligible to make a waiver claim for either Sean Kilpatrick and Derrick Jones. Both players waived on Thursday will clear waivers on Saturday. Here is the current claim order of teams eligible with roster spots:

1. Chicago (15)
3. Dallas (15)
4. Sacramento (15)
5. Phoenix (15)
6. Memphis (15)
7. LA Clippers (14)*
10. Brooklyn (15)

17. Portland (14) **
21. Indiana (14)
22. Milwaukee (15)
26. Toronto (14)*
27. Cleveland (15) **
30. Boston (14)

*= Would be a tax team
**= In the tax
***= Hard cap restrictions

Around the league

Ingram 21, 7 and 6 (I was hard on him last season but the kid has really taken a step forward. He has a shot to be a very nice player, Ball gets all of the publicity but I'd take Ingram over Ball 10/10 times).

Ball 10, 8 and 8, 5-11 from the field, 3 steals, 4 blocks

Simmons 12, 13 rebounds, 15 assists.. WOW

Embiid 33, 7 and 6 with 5 blocks... it must be so much fun to be a Sixers fan right now

Bradley Beal is averaging 42.5 points per game over his last 2, 34/59 from the field, amazingly only 6 3's.

Warren 23 and 8, he's a nice player

Melo... 5-20!, might be unfair but the Melo is a loser narrative isn't being helped by the Thunder's 11-13 start... 33/19% over his last 5... yuck

Levert 21, 10 and 5 for BK

Mitchell 26, 4 and 4, kid can play

Knicks shoukd trade Lee
twostepgiants : 12/8/2017 1:23 pm : link
Knicks are not a 5-6 seed as some suggest

The Knicks are not in a playoff position right now and that is with a great start from Porzingas, chemistry, great play from Kanter, Lee, Hardaway, etc. That is with alot of home games and a favorable schedule

We need to stop fooling ourselves that this team is going somewhere in 2018. They are not.

The future is 2020.

Deal Courtney Lee by the deadline for what you can get. Ensure another lottery pick - thats what best for this team.

probably cares.

that's no way to run a team. Make smart moves, acquire assets, improve the roster, and the winning will eventually happen. This roster still needs a lot of work.

Little bit of a different situation though. KP needs to be signed long term and he has expressed some displeasure with how things are being done. Now we have a good team(they will be in the playoff hunt all season) and we are going to sell off a key player? May not be a good move. Obviously it depends on the return, but we also could trade Lee in the offseason.

Terrible post, IMO. First off, we are 2 games out of the 4 seed and we've had some injuries of late which has hurt(no pun intended). Then you contradict yourself, trade Lee for whatever you can get and ensure another lottery pick. Most likely, the team trading for Lee is a playoff team that won't be offering a lottery pick.
KP
TyreeHelmet : 12/8/2017 1:35 pm : link
Never say never but it would be truly shocking if KP didn't sign an extension this offseason. He would be giving up a massive amount of guaranteed money that no other nba player has done before
With Knicks fans luck,
Keith : 12/8/2017 1:36 pm : link
this will be the time it happens.

KP's gonna be here for a long time. I'd say that the odds of his
yatqb : 12/8/2017 1:53 pm : link
leaving are less than 5%.

What team near the 8th seed in their division needs Lee? I suspect that Perry will pull the trigger if he lands a #1 that has a chance to be a lottery pick.
RE: RE: Knicks shoukd trade Lee
twostepgiants : 12/8/2017 3:25 pm : link
1- i meant by trading Lee they will ensure their own pick will be lottery. Not that they would get a lottery pick in a trade for him

2- yes Knicks are "just 2 back of 4 seed" but have you considered that thet have played Double the amount of home ganes as road games? They have won just 1 road game.

Why dont you take a peek at the upcoming schedule.
6 of last 9 games in December on road.
12 of 15 games in January on road.

Thats 18 of 24 from mid-December until end of January on road.
Some of tbe 6 home games- Boston, spurs, Philly
Hardaway probably to be out for all of them

What do you surmise the Knicks will be to the 4 seed then?

You really think that trading Lee
Keith : 12/8/2017 3:29 pm : link
will ensure us a lottery pick??? Not with KP and Kanter. We will still be a 7-10 seed team without Lee.

I understand the schedule has been easy. I understand that we probably aren't a 4-5 seed. My point is, why not wait and see. There is no reason to trade Lee now unless we get blown away. We are better off waiting until the deadline so we can really assess where we are. If we are still playing well at the time, we can move him in the offseason. If I'm running the knicks. I would trade Lee if someone overpaid or reassess come the deadline.
The Knicks will fall off
Jon in NYC : 12/8/2017 3:46 pm : link
the pace. I'd be stunned if they're sniffing the playoffs in another month or two. Trade Lee while his value is at its peak.
Why exactly would Lees value
Keith : 12/8/2017 3:49 pm : link
come down?
They're going to float around .500 all year
Ten Ton Hammer : 12/8/2017 3:54 pm : link
Don't sucked sucked into what seed they would be. The conference sucks. The team competes, they have some good pieces, and they're led by an old PG known to break down over the length of a season. This isn't the year.

If you can maximize value for Lee, you move him. This shouldn't even be a question. He's 32. Sell high.
RE: You really think that trading Lee
twostepgiants : 12/8/2017 3:57 pm : link
The Knicks are already in the 9 Spot with double the home games, easy schedule, a remarkable historic start by Porzingas

Hardaway now out 2-6 weeks with a tremendous road stretch coming.

The Knicks will be lucky to be 5 games out of the 8 seed by end of January.

Courtney Lee has value. Trade him and get something in return right now.

You aren't following.

I'm not saying don't trade Lee. I'm saying, reassess after that road trip. His value isn't going to go down. Its a bad message to send to KP at this point in time. If we fall out of the race by the deadline, then you trade him.

that has me concerned is the amount of home games and how bad they have looked on the road. They are not a bad team. I mean what is there record when KP, Jack, and Kanter all start? Probably something like 12-4.

That said, im with Keith in that id hold onto lee until closer to the deadline. See where we are at then. If we are fighting for the 8th seed and you get a solid offer id take it. If we have collapsed then jsut get what you can for him. And if we are still fighting for a 6 seed then maybe you keep him. Of course all of this would depend on what you are getting for him. If some team in the lottery right now is offering you an unprotected first then sure trade him now, but my guess is the offers are not anything great. Probably teams who will be picking in the 20's offering a first or future first.
I would take a Lee deal if it's good
adamg : 12/9/2017 12:20 pm : link
I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth when we're already playing with house money this year. We're not contenders yet. Lee isn't a starter on a contender...
I know Frank is young, I know he has limited exposure to American

style of basketball, but it’s hard to imagine him being more than an averge scorer right now. He better averages 5 steals a game to justify picking him over Mitchell.

Mitchell seems to have the lead dog mentality, which is huge in determining success in the league. His shot is better than advertised and we already knew his off-charts athleticism. Don’t just look at the stats. Look at the type of plays he is making. He is a stud.

Meanwhile, our guy passes the ball around the perimeter and we applaud him for being unselfish....I know, I know it’s early. But Frank needs to come out of his shell first.

Keeping Lee won’t help keep Porzingis around. Fielding a better team will, like drafting someone like Mitchell instead of Frank. Get a pick for Lee and run.
Ntilikina is very, very young.
Keith : 12/9/2017 1:24 pm : link
He's a full 2 years younger than Mitchell. It's way too early to compare them and quite unfair.
I don't know, I understand patience is necessary with Frank, but
Jim in Hoboken : 12/9/2017 1:35 pm : link
basketball is a sport where you can see if someone can play pretty readily. It's hard to imagine Frank ever playing with this type of explosiveness or creativity.

Also, it's not like Mitchell can't shoot or play defense.
This is just the start!! - ( New Window )
I remember people
LawrenceTaylor56 : 12/9/2017 1:39 pm : link
being upset about not drafting Brandon Jennings after Curry went to Golden State. Now Jennings is over in China. It's early yet.

With that being said, Mitchell right now looks like the steal of the draft.
It's too early to be down on the Frenchy pick
adamg : 12/9/2017 1:45 pm : link
Especially before we see what we do in the next draft. Not to mention, Hardaway offers a lot on offense, Franky may be a better complement for good team basketball.
Mitchell and Frank..
Italianju : 12/9/2017 1:49 pm : link
are going to be very different types of guards. And im not saying id take Frank over him if i had the choice again. Mitchell has been great. But there is something to be said about the fact that Frank is avg almost the same amount of assists and Mitchell in 10 less minutes. And i know that Mitchell is playing SG a lot of the time, but i just think he is going to be more of a scoring guard. Again im not knocking mitchell and id take him over Frank if i could, but i think Frank can be a better PG and defender quite easily. Will never be a better scorer though (or highlight play maker if thats the eye test)
