mention is that Odell was one of the first Giants to call Eli, and went to the facility to see Eli after the benching. Not saying he is a saint, no one is. His actions at times are troubling. But it seems most of Odell's good actions are forgotten, and the things he does for his teammates goes unreported. I don't think we have heard anyone of his teammates say anything bad about him.
Accusing someone of writing attention-seeking posts on social media....while writing an article that is a clear attempt to get attention for ones-self. Great job, Leonard!

Like I said. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Some people just don't like the person and will find any avenue possible to go after him. It's pathetic.
2-3 years. It's terrible. First off, everything they write about is an attempt to stir the pot. They have a guy that only writes about race and how everyone is racist. All of their political stuff is extremely slanted. Their sports writers rarely write interesting articles, they just try to create stories. It's terrible.
is in deep trouble. I think they just sold the paper for $1 because they are so much in debt.

Sounds about right.
And OBJ is glad to provide it for them.
You're so jealous of him that it's not even funny. You hate that this young, brash kid has so much fame and fortune, and you have nothing. Isn't that what this is really all about?

Sadly that can desribe pretty much almost every newspaper nowadays lol (cough cough Newark Star Ledger cough cough)
Beckham was in the locker room Wednesday but declined to speak to most of the media, selecting a few of his favorites for side-conversations, and said he’d speak to everyone at the end of the season.
So he's not on the short list, so he throws a temper tantrum.
God forbid an athlete in this town try to defend himself after taking hits from the media for the better part of two straight years now. Easy for us to sit here and condemn or mock every tweet, post or blip from Beckham. But he's the one taking the hits from jack offs like Leonard.
Yes Beckham brought most of this on himself by being vocal and animated and at times foolish. Still, the media never stops.
On the one hand, I'm glad OBJ didn't tweet or otherwise say anything during the past months of Giants turmoil.
On the other hand, it is totally ridiculous for OBJ to equate himself with Brady. And I do think it says something about OBJ. Is it news? I don't know, but someone started a thread here on BBI about the whole thing so it has some traction with Giants' fans.
Some of you really need to step back from the Giants fandom Â
Beckham is looking to be paid 20 million dollars a year. You need to be a team leader to even sniff that. An example. A role model. A calm ship in the storm.
Let me let you all in on a little secret. The Giants aren't enamored with Beckham and see him as a necessary evil right now. They have waited and waited for the "light bulb" to go on with the guy, where he matures a little to understand that a WR can't be great in the NFL without a good team around him, meaning QB and O-Line and even cohesive coaching. Beckham makes it impossible to create any kind of unity with his constant "me first" personality.
This has been told to me by a few different people connected with the NFL, and lost in ALL of the bedlam this last week was this tidbit from John Mara at his press conference. When asked about Beckham he said
"I certainly expect him to be a part of this team in the future, but that will be a discussion also with the incoming general manager and the incoming head coach. We'll make whatever decision we think is appropriate going forward."
Read between the lines. He is standing in front of reporters and saying that a young cost controlled star will have his situation evaluated by the organization and that the Giants MAY be ready to move on. Have you EVER heard anything like that with someone of Beckham's talent on a rookie deal?
The Giants braintrust screwed the pooch because they thought just maybe a 36 year old Eli could sprinkle some magic dust on his arm and give us one more run, and maybe he still can, who knows. The time to trade Beckham was last offseason for a mega haul. Don't tell me a team who thought they were 1 or 2 players away wouldn't give us two firsts and a good player for the guy. The phone would have been ringing off of the hook for the marketing concept alone of having Beckham on the team. People make trades like that for guys who never played in the league. The Bills traded 2 firsts and a fourth to move up 5 spots in the draft for Sammy Watkins.
So what do we do now? The answer is still work the phones and try to get 2 extra first round picks and a good player and hope someone bites. The injury is going to make that hard. Having 4 first round picks in the next 2 years is the surest way to rebuild this thing, especially if the Giants used their pick on a stud QB. By the time the Giants are really competitive again Beckham will be out of contract or holding out (which he threatened last year briefly). My point is that you can't build around Beckham. That would be lunacy. No bad team has ever been built around a WR before.
Bottom Line:
a) Beckham loves being a sports celebrity.
b) Beckham does not love being a productive NFL player and sees that only as a means to achieve (a) above.
see McAdoo/Reese get fired, and make it all about Odell.
WR's are almost always divas. Odell is paid to make plays, he doesn't need to be the de facto leader of the team. This is little more than click bait to me.

I agree. I'd look to get a 'Herschel Walker' type deal and move on.
It is completely valid to question whether or not the Giants should re-sign Beckham.
That said, the NYDN (not just Leonard) has been on this anti-Beckham shtick since the offseason, and they turn every little thing into a negative. It destroys their credibility.

That is a very fair point.
Counterpoint though- Isn't part of being a successful star athlete in New York the ability to get the media on your side?
We all agree that Beckham is a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. Do you think if he was more media friendly that he could gain some favor with the outlets?

Serious Questions.
Is he unfriendly with the media? I don't recall him skipping out on a post game press conference or media at his locker.
They even tried to make him punching a hole in the wall after losing a game a negative and a sign that he's a lose cannon when players have done things like that for years. Every little thing that he says or does or doesn't do is turned into a "look at this asshole article"

Another good point.
Assuming that everything that he has ever done (kicking net, punched wall, boat trip, spearing Norman, etc.) is all him just being passionate and misunderstood; which while I don't agree with - I can see that could be an argument made; shouldn't he work on his perception with the media if he wants to succeed here? Or do you think that the onus should be on the media (whose job it is to sell papers through salacious articles) to really go out of their way to be neutral or even kind to Beckham?
If you play their game and give you what they want, you're a hero. If you don't, they crush you at every opportunity. It's the same media that wanted Tom Coughlin fired on two individual occasions before he won championships because he wasn't nice to them.

I don't think anyone would argue that the Norman thing wasnt incredibly stupid and immature. The other stuff? Completely overblown by the media.
He's done a lot of good stuff with sick kids that media glosses over or barely mentions.
He gets treated worse in the media than guys like Floyd Mayweather, Josh Brown. I can't even remember an Odell fluff piece post Norman
b) Beckham does not love being a productive NFL player and sees that only as a means to achieve (a) above.
How the fuck does Beckham not "love" being a productive NFL player. By most accounts, he's the hardest working guy on the team. He hones his craft constantly and for a poster who fancies themselves to have insider access and then post that shit - you are way off base.
And that's the thing with Beckham. People can't just criticize him for what he does wrong - they have to fabricate stuff to strengthen the argument. Leonard did it. LimerickGuy did it (again). Most of the stories about him do it.
Running with a narrative is hard work when a player isn't playing, so making shit up to fit the narrative is much easier.

Questioning Beckham's desire is way off-base.
And his teammates don't have a bad thing to say about him
“Amazing teammate," Pugh said. No one wants to win more than Odell. People thrive off that and people look up to him in that locker room because of what he’s done his first three years in the NFL. Nothing bad to say about Odell whatsoever.”

a) I don't say I have any insider access, I don't. I have friends who work for NFL agents.
b) You are missing the point completely. My argument is that Beckham loves all of the extraneous things that come with being a sports celebrity more than actually being a sportsman. Viewing his social media profiles can give you a window into this. His life is all about flash and polish. Personally I think there is an insecurity issue of some kind bubbling under the surface. If he is this amazingly hard grinder behind the scenes I'd love to get some insight into it. This is what he should be doing with the NY media. Give them the side that they don't know and force them to write about it. There is a reason why he doesn't though. It doesn't fit in with the celebrity persona that he has invented that he lives like a rap god of some kind.
Contrary to popular belief- I want Beckham to succeed on the field as much as anyone does. His talent is off of the charts. My problem is now and has always been that you can't win with guys who aren't team first guys, or at a minimum have the self awareness to make it appear that they are. You can do commercials and all that while still toeing the line a little bit and be a beloved figure. Plaxico literally shot himself and we look back on him fondly because he didn't flaunt his me me me stuff all over the place. Be passionate. Do a funny dance when you score. All fine. Don't be a knucklehead and cost the team with your antics and don't put the attention on yourself over the team and the kid can be a hall of famer.
3 years into his career I'm ready to say he will never "get it", and that's why I have said to trade the guy for a while. It's a business. Sell when there is value. Right now they have a small problem with the guy. When he holds out or wants a 20 mil a year deal, you are going to have a big problem. Let it be someone else's problem while we rebuild with youth and talent.

So because he posts pictures with celebrities and parties he doesn't care about football?
I don't see how you can possibly come to that conclusion without knowing the guy and without being in the locker room. You're assuming.
He could have held out for a contract last year. He didnt. He said he won't. You're assuming and fabricating to fit your agenda
It doesn't matter what he does. Jerkoffs like Leonard will always be there to go after him.
It is the Daily News so not a surprise it’s complete trash

Everything he does gets amped up because he's in NY and because of ... other reasons.
I think the Norman thing didn't help him either.
His head is in the right place, he just needs a coach that can help him funnel his energy and drive to win.

Keep swinging and missing, though. You've already struck out about 10 times this week.

They even tried to make him punching a hole in the wall after losing a game a negative and a sign that he's a lose cannon when players have done things like that for years. Every little thing that he says or does or doesn't do is turned into a "look at this asshole article"

I don't think anyone would argue that the Norman thing wasnt incredibly stupid and immature. The other stuff? Completely overblown by the media.
He's done a lot of good stuff with sick kids that media glosses over or barely mentions.
He gets treated worse in the media than guys like Floyd Mayweather, Josh Brown. I can't even remember an Odell fluff piece post Norman
a) Beckham loves being a sports celebrity.
b) Beckham does not love being a productive NFL player and sees that only as a means to achieve (a) above.

He spent a Saturday watching Snacks' kid.
Only cares about his celebrity status though

a) I don't say I have any insider access, I don't.
