NFT: N. Charleston police officer sentenced to 20 years

njm : 12/8/2017 3:33 pm
Federal court for civil rights violation. Judge went above federal guidelines of 10-12 years due to facts and circumstances.

I'm asking, probably in vain, for this not to go political. But I thought this was worth posting
how about a link to the story
Rocky369 : 12/8/2017 3:37 pm : link
or even a name so we can google it
Crazy video.

Really looks like the cop panicked, but the guy was clearly told that no matter what you do, keep your hands over your head. If you fall, do not bring your hands down to catch yourself, fall on your face. As the guy was crawling, it looks like he went to pick his pants up and gets littered with bullets.

From the WSJ print edition so no link. Officer's name is Michael Slager.
The story:
Keith : 12/8/2017 3:44 pm : link
Cops receive a call about a guy flashing a gun outside a hotel window. They get to the room and call the guy out of the room. The guy comes out and they order him on the ground with his hands up. The cop tells him not to drop his hands no matter what and to crawl forward. The guy is crying and pleading for the cops not to shoot him. As he's crawling, he reaches down to pick his pants up and gets shot a bunch of times. He dies and has no weapon on him. They did find 2 pellet rifles in his hotel room that was used for his job.

Wrong incident
Oh my bad,

that was the one where the cop got off. The one you are referring to is the one where the cop shot the dude running away. He deserves to go to jail.
I believe

you are combining two different stories in this thread.

One is the police officer in Charleston who shot Walter Scott was convicted to 20 years in prison.

Also today, a video was released of Daniel Shaver being murdered in a hotel hallway, unarmed posing no threat to the police.

two different stories.
the only reason this even goes to trial
GentleGiant : 12/8/2017 3:49 pm : link
is because of cell phone video. This every day life for a black man in this country. Think about it next time you criticize the "takeaknee" movement.
The Daniel Shaver
pjcas18 : 12/8/2017 3:50 pm : link
story received almost no publicity, while the Walter Scott incident was national headlines for weeks.

The police officer who shot Daniel Shaver was found not guilty.

You can google the video of the Daniel Shaver incident if you want or delete this thread and start another for people who care.

No it’s not stop it. Black aren’t being executed on an everyday basis by police. This false narrative needs to stop

492 people were shot and killed in the first six months of 2017, 26% were black. Annualized that's 256 people - so I guess the cops just take the weekends off.

Your first sentence is spot on.

Your second sentence is the type of hyperbole that makes people tune out the subject of your 3rd sentence.
