Browns Hired John Dorsey to prevent Giants interview

CMicks3110 : 12/10/2017 7:40 am

Dorsey was scheduled to fly to New York this week to interview with the Giants on Tuesday, sources said. The Browns were aware of the Giants' interest, and it contributed to them acting when they did Thursday, firing executive vice president Sashi Brown and hiring Dorsey to a four-year contract on the same day.
It was mentioned in DefenderDawg's thread

regarding Gettleman being considered the favorite.
Good luck in Cleveland. Haha.

Odd he wouldn’t interview with the Giants..

I guess having 2 top 7 picks & the chance to turnaround a laughingstock has appeal.

A bird in the hand, is worth two in the bush.
If your choices are the Browns or the Giants

That's an easy pick and I'm not picking the Browns without AT LEAST giving the Giants a chance to state their case for his services. If nothing else, it give you leverage when hammering out a deal with the Browns, if the Browns are your choice.

So I'm thinking the source isn't quite up to speed or they are overstating the Giants interest in him.
Lots of things to consider and getting hired
section125 : 12/10/2017 8:05 am : link
right now and getting a pay check this week is one of them. And true, having all those picks early, plus not having to put up with the New York media is another. How about, the Browns suck so bad that a 6-10 season next year will be viewed as a positive in Cleveland while 6-10 next year will be met with a lynch mob in Giantsland. Cleveland probably has fewer holes in the lineup than the Giants, too.
His choices wasn't the Browns or the Giants
Jimmy Googs : 12/10/2017 8:08 am : link
it was only the Browns.

He had no offer from the Giants that we are aware. And somebody else offered him a job that only 32 people in the world have...even if it is Cleveland.
What's that curious saying ?

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush? Mr. Dorsey just became a rich man. The Browns are awful but his checks aren't going to bounce. Also, the gap between the Giants and Browns isn't as wide as some might think .
Browns

are a plum job for a GM. Tons of cap space, tons of picks next two drafts including a number one.

There is also sufficient talent on the roster. The problem is there’s gaping holes at QB, RB on offense and some depth issues on defense. Sound familiar?

Plus you get them to 8-8 and you look like a genius
The Browns were just McAdoo'ed.

Zing.
Perhaps

the gig is better in Cleveland. Is their owner as involved as Mara is in NY? I know if I'm taking a top management position, I want to be the top manager, something that hasn't been the case in NY. If Tisch were the sole owner, the Giants GM position would hold a lot more appeal for someone who wants to run the show.
Besides the reasons mentioned above with regards to
Diver_Down : 12/10/2017 8:41 am : link
top picks and flush with cap space, is that the Browns are an iconic franchise dating back to the formative years of the NFL. Their track record has been the laughingstock of the NFL for awhile, but if you are the one GM to return them to prominence, then you can write your ticket to Canton. Even if they only get to .500, Dorsey will still be viewed as a savior. You do that with any franchise, and you'll be left looking for another job.

Myself as a football fan would like to see the Browns succeed. It certainly is a better story than the being the Factory of Sadness.
even though the Browns are a joke right now
markky : 12/10/2017 8:44 am : link
they are a historic franchise (or at least the name is). it would be great if they were once again competitive.

they've been lacking a franchise QB. With the number of picks they have, Dorsey could draft TWO QBs if he wanted to and increase his chances. i think it's an enviable position.

Yeah, maybe it's known the Giants are worse mess than Cleveland despite the 0-12 record.
Browns have 5 of the top 40 picks this draft

And a ton of young talent
Dorsey will turn this franchise around. It’s a no brainer for a GM with his background in building winners
They said the same

Lol except for that whole job security thing. Details
If Dorsey was dying for the giants job
DavidinBMNY : 12/10/2017 11:24 am : link
He could have waited or called. Look at the draft capital he has and how easy it should be to fix Sashi Brown's analytics screw ups.
1) Draft the best QB at the top
2) get the best WR with your second pick (trade up if needed)
3) Get a blue goose RB
4) Deal Kizer to a contending team with a veteran QB and let him develop

Or even more scary buy in to Kizer and let him develop and lock and load with Saquon Barkley.
