Sportscenter didn't show Army/Navy highlights until 1/2 way

Elisha10 : 12/10/2017 10:09 am
through the show. I know how bad ESPN has become has been mentioned here multiple times. But I still watch it for highlights, and some other stuff is still good like PTI and College Gameday. But they began todays show with 3 straight NBA highlights on the morning after Army/Navy in the snow, the Heismann, Stanton to the Yankees and #1 Duke going down to on unranked team. What is their obsession with the NBA? I am not the biggest NBA hater, basketball is actually my favorite sport to play and second favorite to watch. I just don't understand how regular season NBA games in December can be shown before other big events of the day. Sunday morning sportscenter is usually dominated by college football.
Same reason they put sports and weather

At the end of the news program. Subject the viewer to more commercials before you show them what they really want to see. Is it really that surprising to you?

Sportcenter usually shows the biggest news and highlights first, the point was why they don't consider the Heissman and Army/Navy to be a big deal anymore.
Of the people that I know

that watch college football, none of them have cared about the Army-Navy game for many years. I don't think they are the exception.
I just turned on ESPN. I never watch ESPN, b/c it sucks.

And maybe the most popular.

ESPN also spends something like $1.3 billion a year for NBA rights.

audience are teens and teens love the nba. I too saw the start of it this morning and was laughing at how big a deal they were making of Cleveland’s comeback against the 76ers. Forget the historic stuff going on, it’s all LeBron all the time. Just another reason to stop watching that network entirely.
Can’t really blame them

Army-Navy isn’t a game many people care about unless they have ties to either academy or branch of the military. It’s basically a lower tier pre-Christmas bowl game. There aren’t any star players no matter how hard they tried on the broadcast to push the two QBs. No one is a pro prospect either which is what draws a lot of casual/NFL only football fans to late season college ball. And that game sucked. I thought I was watching a football game from 1917 not 2017.

You mean other than the people who devote their lives to protecting our country and the countless who have played the game, gone on to serve, and died doing the same? Hmmmm....I wonder?
Showing a 90 second highlight for Army Navy

should be pretty easy for ESPN to do. I know why they don’t but it’s the same reason why their ratings and viewership have plummeted.

?? It is? According to who? Anyway you answered the question with your second sentence - espn markets the sports that it has the most access to. Not rocket science - it's the same reason they refuse to show hockey highlights ... NBC sports network owns those rights
They have to cover the lousy nba

Regular season professional sports highlights trump regular season college highlights and off the field news.

I think you are conflating what's interesting to you and what's interesting to a wider audience and what's in the financial best interest of the network.
