We don’t need a QB

King Quis : 12/10/2017 6:44 pm
We need the best lineman in this draft, we also need one of the better RB’s in this draft too. The first two picks should be lineman and the 3rd rd pick should be a running back, I think Webb can be what we need while we strengthen the rest of the roster.

What rounds
cokeduplt : 12/10/2017 9:38 pm : link
Were Snee diehl O’Hara McKenzie drafted?Hint None of them were drafted in the first round. We don’t need to pick an OL. None of them are even rated that high this year to justify the second pick overall. We need a QB Eli’s best days are way behind him. Webb is an unknown

me it depends how good this years crop of Qb's are. If none are a definite blue chip QB then I would take BPA.
I think Eli has another couple years if they can shore up the line through Free agency and the draft.
A stud running back with hands sure would be nice too.
Unfortunately for the Giants

they need both a QB AND OL.
Generally you have the one and fill in with the other.
The great FO minds that ran this team had 1 and never sufficiently addressed the other for 10 years.
We are almost a lock at the #2.
Under the right set of circumstances I'd take a king's ransom(as in a KING'S RANSOM) for a top 5-7 trade down with a team that would likely be picking top 7-10 next yr but owning us their pick. Opening the door to grab OL high this year and next, with the likelihood that '19 is another good QB year.
Given that, the far better option is to go QB now, OL in the 2nd at 34. Then '18 brings another top1-15 1st rounder, maybe another OL. Hopefully a FA OL also.
Eli's career here, sadly, likely ends with a negative W-L
record in '18/'19 thanks to Reese.

This is the logical and correct answer
Everyone keeps making the same mistake
blueblood : 12/10/2017 9:48 pm : link
thinking that drafting ONE offensive lineman high in the draft fixes the entire OL.. nope

No it isn't. "a definite blue chip QB" rarely ever happens. QB's are unfortunately, a crap shoot of sorts. Sadly, it's taking your best educated guess.

I think everyone is violently agreeing.
This is not 2004 where any of the top 3 are "can't miss".
You only get one pick.
I know I'm in the minority, but if I were GM I'd trade down for additional picks and restock a team that is much better than Cleveland. I'd jettison a few vets in the process (just who is the question of course.)
Eli and Davis would be asked to manage the team for one more year.
QB 1st round
arniefez : 12/11/2017 10:40 am : link
OL 2nd round. Eli is almost done.

Trade down and get additional picks and draft Quentin Nelson with the first pick

I'd sign up for that if it's a guarantee he's available. Would be a killer if not available.
The Giants didn't need a QB
David B. : 12/11/2017 2:33 pm : link
When they drafted Eli, either.

Very few franchises have the luxury of going from a Favre to a Rodgers, or a Payton to a Luck.

The Jets are still looking for the guy to replace Namath
The Dolphins are still looking for the guy to replace Marino

Circumstance and draft class have aligned for the Giants. Time to take one if they feel he's a next "Franchise QB." It might work out or it might not, but given where they're picking and the QB class, the time is never going to be more opportune.

I wonder which of these guys Accorsi likes best.

Definitely see why you’d say that considering they’d just signed Kurt Warner , but Kurt was quietly considered a skilled punch drunk QB who had a penchant for fumbling due to exquisite blocking schemes of the genius Mike Martz offense.

Also our favorite Bachelor Jessie Palmer proved to us he was better off displaying his boyish good looks and impressive coiffe than his ability to read defenses and throw the ball down field so we really had no choice but to draft Eli. This situation is a bit different with a guy like Webb and we should entertain all options besides following what everyone else would do blindly.
There is not a single position where this team can't use help
Go Terps : 12/14/2017 8:16 pm : link
Not a single one.

Draft the best player, regardless of position. Period. If our personnel people decide its the guard from Notre Dame, so be it. Take him.

NFL rosters turn over at a rate of about 30% per year. No team is ever set at any position. Ever.

Take the best player. I've said it many times: if I were running a draft war room anyone that used the word "need" would be thrown out.
