Sorry to see anyone go down because of injury.....however its a gamble with all these mobile QB s....Wenz 29 starts Eli 210 ......I would akways take the latter,..,,,, think about it,....,,,
about Lamar Jackson. He is 6'3 212 lbs. His body frame reminds me of a WR. I like Jackson but I am not sure his body could take the pounding playing QB in the NFL.
... reminded me of Griffin getting hit by Ngata his rookie season. The Griffin hit was far more violent, but Wentz was hit right above the knee like Griffin and it hyper-extended.
There have been mobile QBs that have survived. Cunningham, Tarkenton, and in today's game, Russell Wilson. Wilson knows how not to get hit. The lower center of gravity may help. Griffin was the opposite. He was a pinata.
We read a lot on BBI about the need for a mobile QB. Even in 2017, it seems it's best to have a QB with instincts that can move in the pocket and avoid contact. No QB should be expected to succeed behind a line like the Giants, mobile or otherwise.
He’s a semi scrambler that can move the pocket. Need to be able to do that. He has to stop trying to pick up yardage with his legs when nothing is open. He’s not busting out for 100 yards rushes, but he picks up a few yards here or there to keep drives going where he should probably throw the ball away and not take the hits.

Josh Rosen is 6’4 and 218.
Doesn’t seem like it’s a huge difference m. Eli Manning is 6’4 220.

Yes but Jackson uses his feet often. Do you think he will stop doing that in the NFL? Maybe he learns to pick his spots or not head first.
We need an immobile qb who will stay in the pocket.
Like an Andrew Luck (shoulder), Derek Carr (broken leg), Carson Palmer (ACL), Matt Stafford (shoulder), Tom Brady (ACL), Peyton Manning (Neck), Drew Brees (shoulder)...
This stuff is just luck. I rather have a guy that can move. We've been lucky with Eli but almost all major qbs around the league have experienced some type of injury in their career. Russell Wilson runs around all the time and he's never missed a game.
still happen in the pocket . That's changed somewhat because of the WCO and the quick ditch . QBs simply do not hang onto the ball anymore waiting for the receiver to get to the sticks on third and 15. That's how many pocket injuries used to occur.
The rule evolution has in mind primarily keeping quarterbacks healthy . Wenz went out with reckless abandon . He paid the price , apparently . I Ican't bsck this by citing any data but I think ACLs are down significantly for some reason . Rodgers doesn't wear his shoulder pads properly so equipment figured there . But on the whole quarterback injuries are way down from what they used to be.
Wilsons injury is coming. That spinning out of pressure is fun to watch but its just a matter of time until he spins into a massive hit he doesn't see coming.
Pat Kirwan predicted this about a month and a half ago... Â
saying he was concerned about the way Wentz was running or using his ability to run. He said quite plainly that if Wentz continued that way this would happen.
I look at Russell Wilson and see something completely different. I see Fran Tarkenton in Wilson. Fran rarely got hurt and used his scrambling to extend the play as opposed to running to gain yardage. Wilson does much the same and he still take a lot of shots because of the poor OL in Seattle.
But Wilson is a lot smarter in how he uses his running or scrambling ability. With the number of lousy offensive lines out there, I think you have to have someone with escape ability but not someone who looks for run but merely looks to extend plays.
is how he keeps his head up and eyes downfield when running. He runs looking to throw. I'm not going to kill him for the play that led to his injury - he saw the opportunity to score, and he took it.
Even if he is an Eagle, I feel bad for him. With him, the Eagles were the team to beat in the NFC. He is the real deal, John Elway with a Dan Marino release. Some of the throws he made yesterday I haven't seen since Elway in his prime. Wentz is going to torture us for years.
LJ's coaches have to reign in his running to merely an occasional threat.
There's a misconception about Jackson and him being a "running QB". Petrino only has so many designed QB runs because they don't have many elite playmakers that can match up with the very good to elite defenses they are playing.
Jackson hangs in the pockets and only bails when he needs to.
If you've watched them, they're 11-2 in large part because of Wentz's mobility. His ability to make a positive play out of a broken situation has been Philly's top asset this year.
And you can see that elsewhere in the league too. Russell Wilson is making a ton of plays off schedule. Aaron Rodgers has been doing it for years. Yesterday, Cam Newton won a season changing game with a 60 yard run. Deshaun Watson was killing it by making plays off schedule.
Mobile QBs may have a shorter shelf life, but that ability is an enormous difference maker. Also, I'd submit it's harder to build an offense around a guy that can't move.
his body since the first day he came in the league - an injury like this was only a matter of time.
Wouldn't put a blanket statement over all mobile QBs. You can be mobile and be smart. Russell Wilson is the first person that comes to mind - for someone who uses his scrambling ability as much as he does you'll rarely see him take a big hit, in or outside of the pocket.

Did this just happen?
Yup. With the score 24-24 and just over two minutes left, Newton had a 62 yard run to the Minnesota 8. Newton may be a quitter in the Super Bowl, but it doesn't change the fact that his mobility made the difference yesterday in the crucial moment against an elite defense. Link - ( New Window )

Brady, Bradford, Bridgewater... Watson tore his ACL in a non-contact practice... sometimes bad luck just happens.
Fuck Eagles fans. Hope Bradley Cooper enjoyed the owners box today.

If that's the case, then okay. I like him better than Mayfield but that was my only issue.

RG3 being the other daredevil that had it go all wrong..
Very few of these guys last in the NFL, and those that do, find ways to reinvent themselves after being injured (Randall Cunningham comes to mind!)

Absolutely, he hasn't learned to slide, taking on two defenders isn't smart in the log haul!
Wait, what?
Eli isn't a pure pocket passer? Am I reading that right?

He escapes injury? He's missed at least a game due to injury in like 8 or 9 of the seasons he's played.
