I live..
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/11/2017 4:47 pm : link
in the heart of Panthers country and I have some insight into what's transpired.

Graham Gano lives down the street from me and Brandon Beane who was assistant GM and the cap guy when Gettleman was here (and is now the Bills GM), is a friend.

Josh Norman committed the cardinal sin as a Panther - he started a feud with Cam.

Gettleman committed a Cardinal sin as well - trying to evaluate the futures of Olsen and Davis.

It is interesting, what did you mean by the Gettleman part though? Giving extensions to Davis and Olsen?
Gettleman..
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/11/2017 5:39 pm : link
was looking at restructuring Olsen and Davis and was also seeing if there were any trade opportunities. He also was weighing the benefits vs. negatives of releasing them too.

The players (probably their agents) went to Richardson to complain and he told Gettleman those two were "off limits". He reportedly said something like "If they are off limits then I'm not doing my job properly. My job is to look at all options for all our players."

Opinions are mixed if he actually gave Richardson an ultimatum to fire him for the stance on Olsen and Davis, but they were the reason he was let go.

The Redskins can't always say the same, having, at times, refused to stick Norman on the opposing team's best receiver.

Such was the case against the Chargers - Keenan Allen made five of his six receptions when Norman was guarding someone else

They are ignoring Williams scored a 75 yarder against him and that flea flicker was 50+. All in all, he gave 142 yards yesterday. He hasn't been bad, but he hasn't been living up to his contract by any stretch

Interesting, makes Gettleman look less bad given how at least Olsen has played this year (or not played technically) not going to lie and say I know anything about Davis' on field play this year.

Norman is not worth the baggage that comes with him....

the same can be said about other players who like to talk as much as they play.

In some respects, Norman actually helped Gettleman to dump him. If his mouth made the fans and media in Charlotte tired of his antics, then cutting him loose most likely did not create much of a wedge between the fans and Panthers' management.

One of the hardest things for a GM is identifying when is the right time to cut a beloved player loose. Too often players are kept to appease fans or out of loyalty even if that decision produces negative results on the field.

In the 80's, there were some players on the team who were producing on the field but they were not good for the "team". Things fans would never see. Parcells began to move them out because he was trying to create team unity. One of those guys was Mark Haynes. He was a pro bowl corner and I mention him because we are discussing Norman. It was a shock when we learned that Haynes was traded to the Broncos. You see his dejected face at the end of the '86 Superbowl most likely thinking that he wished he was still on the Giants. However, when you become a locker room lawyer and you have a good coach and GM... you get escorted to the door.

I dont care how good Norman is. I would not want that guy on my team.

I think Norman is a total buttface, but on what planet is there anything wrong with what he said?

Here, you'll find people who are able to find fault in anything and everything.

Grown men worrying about whether they like the players they cheer for is one of the funnier things I've learned from BBI.

I virtually never listen to pro-athletes speak until they retire.

Every athlete I've met, done business with or interacted with has been either a bit of a jerk, arrogant and not super engaging.

But then again I cringe when I hear most people's opinions on most things.

Funny enough, the athlete my company has done business with who word around the office was really normal, cool to be around and helpful was OBJ.

Have to agree.

Definitely agree, similar to the Patriots, don't let one player make you overpay, there is almost always someone cheaper and effective. How much better off would the giants be if they didn't overpay for OV and JPP? They probably would have been able to sign some O-line help last year.
