Let's payback the Eagles for 2008 this weekend

Essex : 12/11/2017 3:41 pm
People always remember the Eagles beating us in the playoffs in 2008 as sort of a fluke given how well we played in the regular season. But in truth, the game that led to that slide was an innocent regular season game in which we had already virtually locked up the division. The night plax shot himself, we went to Washington and it was business as usual--we won easily. When the dust settled and the frenzy started our next game was a Sunday afternoon game against the Eagles at home in early December. They were struggling (i think they had tied the bengals the week before) and were considered dead. They came into our building and beat us and the panic started to creep in. We got anihalated the next week in Dallas, had a nice comeback victory over the panthers and lost to the Vikings in a meaningless game. We then lost to the Eagles after the bye in the playoffs. We were never the same and a special season was ruined. Now, obviously it was our fault that plax did what he did and we played like we played, but I always remembered that Sunday afternoon game in early December against the eagles and have always thought that that was the day where the special season started to spiral downward on the field.

Anyway, the Eagles are better than us with or without wentz at this point, and unlike the Eagles in 08, we have no chance to salvage our season--but man, I would love to wreck theirs. By putting doubt into them and raising panic that there is no life after Wentz maybe we can help be the catalyst that wrecks their special season. Let's beat them Sunday!!
I can still remember Dominik Hixon dropping that bomb....

where he was wide open to start that game.
So winning our 3rd game of this season

makes up for losing a playoff game 10 years ago? Yeah, I don't think so.

Wasn't that the playoff game though, not the early December regular season game?
No, it was the regular season game.

No, ruining their special season would and this Sunday is a huge game for their confidence--and anyone who doesn't think so is kidding themselves. If they lose to us, they are going to be in full panic mode. That's what we want if we want the trophy case to remain empty (or empty of Lombardis)

I thought we had a huge drop in the playoff game early on as well. I really remember Brian Westbrook just going off on us in the December game
They'll still be NFC East champions, only thing the Giants can do
mikeinbloomfield : 12/11/2017 3:50 pm : link
is affect their seeding. I will never root for the Giants to lose, but losing is better than winning right now.
Eagles are most likely getting a first-round bye, regardless.
Boy Cord : 12/11/2017 3:52 pm : link
We are going to have to let the Vikes or Saints or Rams or someone else to put a knife in them. I am more interested in getting the #2 pick. Just me.
let's not
mdc1 : 12/11/2017 3:55 pm : link
I think we need a lock on QB draft with or without Ernie. All the eagles need to do is target their throws down the center of the field. Over at halftime.
I work with an Eagles fan
Rjanyg : 12/11/2017 4:10 pm : link
He is quietly nervous now that Wentz is gone for the season. I tried to console him ( being a nice person ) by saying a back up QB can win the super bowl. He then said " Name one "...I said Hostetler. He then said..." who did he replace? " and I said Simms...in week 15. He then said.... " oh Simms? He was better than him, not surprised."

I wanted to punch him. I then said " Well Simms has 2 rings and Eagles have none".

I would love for the Giants to beat Philly and take out Foles.
Yes let’s risk blowing our chances at one of top 2 QB prospects
UberAlias : 12/11/2017 4:39 pm : link
For a fleeting feel good moment. Philly will still be in playoffs, probably still secure home field advantage and 2017 is still a horror show of a NYG season. Great idea.
Not exactly sure how winning this weekend
Default : 12/11/2017 4:43 pm : link
equates to what happened in 2008.
They are gonna get smoked
BigBlue4You09 : 12/11/2017 4:44 pm : link
thankfully, stay in that #2 pick!
Yeah! I'll bet all the guys left from that 2008 team are thinking
Victor in CT : 12/11/2017 4:45 pm : link
that too. Eli Manning and,, and, uh, er. Yeah lets beat those bastards!

please.
The shegal defense will man handle the Giants oline.

I have always believed the Giants could win any game they play, still do!
got anything that would suggest the

Giants can beat the Eagles this weekend -- they are one of the best teams in the NFL this season -- with some bonafide receivers and a lot of Giant mismatches.

Just doesn't seem likely to me
Then we better hold them under 10 points
Jimmy Googs : 12/11/2017 5:15 pm : link
because Eli isn't going to find you anymore than that...
That game still Haunts me
Manning10 : 12/11/2017 5:55 pm : link
would love to see it but to fight a war you need superior weapons and that's not the 2017 Giants.
2008 was the biggest let down
Banks : 12/11/2017 6:07 pm : link
We were far and away the best team for most of the season. The line was so good even Ward ran for 1000 at almost 6ypc. Damn shame.

They were just out of gas and injured

I thought the Philadelphia Eagles got so lucky by how they got into the playoffs and what happened with Plaxico Burress. They did not belong in the playoffs and they would only get in the playoffs in a Philly way and win that game.

The weird thing about that game is I remember it like as if it were yesterday. The old stadium and losing to a loser Eagle team who didn't even belong there was sickening but I would take that any day after being defending Super Bowl champions over any game I went to this year... except for the two that the Giants won.

You left out Sterling Shepard, Evan engram, Rodger Lewis Jr, in the wonderful bang-up job pass protection done by the New York Giants offensive line!
They have thoroughly owned us

Big Rick in FL : 12/11/2017 9:12 pm : link
They're in the playoffs anyway. They just lost their MVP candidate QB. They'll lose in the 1st round. We win and we lose draft spots. How exactly are we paying them back? Who cares anyway it was 9 years ago. We've won a SB since then. They've been irrelevant.

arcarsenal : 12/11/2017 9:14 pm : link
How would this be payback?

The Giants suck. They're not going to beat the Eagles even without Wentz.
Didn't we lose

If memory serves me, the playoff game we had a big pass play to SS and Eli dropped it way short. And that was pretty much it. Team fell apart from there.
We have absolutely no chance......
Doomster : 12/11/2017 10:32 pm : link
It just so sad to watch how inept this offense is......

Dink and Dunk is just not cutting it....

31 completion but only 3 of them over 10 yards?

I am doing email instead of giving the game my complete attention.....have never done that before....
FOles

We may not beat them but maybe we can legally knock him the fuck out. That will tank their season.
Still shoulda won that divisional game.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 12/12/2017 9:02 am : link
& if Plax doesn't shoot himself, we go to the Super Bowl.
This was the only game this year
Powerclean765 : 12/12/2017 9:14 am : link
that I was impressed with anything McAdoo did.

Remember, the Giants came out in ultra-quick tempo and would not let the Eagles pass rushers gear up.

Of course, we did that last week vs. DAL so maybe it wasn't Ben's idea.

But it worked, and that Eagles D didn't do squat.
I never want to lose and don't root for losses
pjcas18 : 12/12/2017 9:19 am : link
but realistically the Eagles clinched the division, a win against them would potentially do more damage to the Giants than the Eagles.

So not quite sure it would be payback for 2008.

Last home game I was at. Knew it was going to be a shitty day after that, though the blocked FG return was a brief glimmer of hope.

2008 regular season game. If I remember correctly, the only decent thing the offense did was that opening drive until they ran an end around or whatever to Manningham and he lost 15 yards. Giants blocked a FG for a TD and it got returned by...Kevkn Dockery or one of those safeties right before the half. I remember because it was touchdown or nothing.

The last TD in that game was irrelevant garbage.

I wish every season was 2008 or more like it. Came and went like a flash. That was the game with the big Hixon drop I think.

Hixon had a big catch vs Philly in the playoff game. Coulda maybe had a chance to win that game if Kearny didn't miss two FGs.

I'm all for football talk and fair is fair... but man, that game was a gift to Philly. They did absolutely nothing special in that game but get lucky Plaxico wasn't there.

Wait, how does this garbage year have anything to do with 2008?

I remember it was during the road Arizona game in 2008 when they showed the footage when Philly got blasted by the Ravens before Red Zone and everything. I think Ed Reed returned a 100+ yard touchdown on an INT. I thought "who cares", and thought the Giants were light years ahead of Eagles at that point and they were in big time trouble.

Bizarre to think that inferior team came and won a playoff game against the Giants in that same season. They needed about 3 teams to win that last week and of course, got their way. Thanks a lot, Plax.

Nah. Our defense was too banged up and that Arizona team was red hot. It’s possible but we were running on fumes at that point.

If my memory serves me correctly, that Arizona team looked so pathetic all season long. Another team you just couldn't believe made it to the Super Bowl and fell short. That's why football is my favorite sport, you just never know.

I guess that's what happens when your team is a high seed for once, you think that you're sitting on top of the NFL and anyone with a worse record than yours has no chance. I'm willing to make a bet that's how all those other teams fans felt when they kept losing to the 10-6 Giants in the playoffs the year prior.

Arizona? in January? On the east coast? Even if Giants squeak by Philly - which they could've- I still like the chances of the Giants winning that one. I think Philly and everyone just got lucky Plax shot himself. Philly's defense got abused by Burress, the same way they did by Fitzgerald in that game.

That Minnesota team Philly beat was nothing special either. Just a weird ending to a great season.

Eagles have their own problems, can't see Foles taking them all the way, so why bother. At this point a loss will suit this team better, play the scrubs.
