Steve Wilks

Pete from Woodstock : 12/11/2017 3:46 pm
Ian Rapoport said that if the New York Giants were to hire former Panthers and Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, his choice of head coach replacement would be Wilks.

At least he could fix the Eli Apple conundrum

Interesting pick. I'd like to go for a defensive guy.
If he brings

Luke Kuechly with him I'm in.
A defensive-oriented HC

with a really sharp young offensive mind as OC works for me. Just make sure that Wilks isn't trying to be his own DC.
I would prefer a coach with an offensive background

Since the Giants are likely to take a QB in the first round.
I hadn't

really heard of him before this report...seems like he's an up and coming coordinator type, but if he has the leadership skills to be a HC i'd be all for it.

If they can lure DeFilippo away from Philly as OC I would be more open to adding a defensive oriented HC.

I disagree.
robbieballs2003 : 12/11/2017 4:21 pm : link
If you hire Wilks I want a veteran offensive coordinator that will not leave in a year. Think about it like the opposite of what the Rams did. They got McVay as the young HC and an established DC that isn't going anywhere.
Looks like a Rivera protege
bluepepper : 12/11/2017 4:29 pm : link
Has worked under him in Chicago, SD and Carolina. I kind of like Rivera so that's not a bad thing in my book. Gettleman saw him up-close for a few years so maybe he knows this guy's got what it takes. Really hard as a fan to have an opinion one way or another on someone like this.
Didn’t know much about him
GoDeep13 : 12/11/2017 4:41 pm : link
After reading up and watching his interviews he seems like a real leader of men. He can command a room.
Ron Erhardt has passed away, but Ray Perkins is only 76

The name made me think of the same guy. I guess I need to stop watching trashy TV shows :-)
From a few press

conferences I watched, Wilks' demeanor seems similar to Tomlin. Seems like a no nonsense guy who is really knowledgeable about football, and could certainly command/lead a room. Their career path is similar as well.
