Today I went to make a rent-sized cash deposit at my local chase ATM. A fairly significant sum that certainly impacts my budgeting. As I deposit the cash the machine makes all its normal noises and nothing seems wrong, until suddenly I get hit with an error message that the machine has “hit a snag” (it literally said that) and dispensed a receipt with a phone number for me to call. It did not return my money, and the machine appeared instantly disabled with a “temporarily out of order” message. Nightmare!
So I go through the process of filing a claim. They’ve issued me a temporary credit, but it’s still subject to instant reversal pending their “investigation” which could take up to 45 days. I’ve read some horrible tales online looking into this of people having their credit overturned during that window and you are left in a position powerless to prove yourself
Does anyone have any similar experiences to share?
Lesson learned though. Just to avoid headaches like this. I’m
Embarrassed to say this but I’m not sure I’ve ever actually physically spoken to a teller or filled out a deposit slip in my life. I’m gonna need to start that though
happened inside the bank i walked right in and they filed the whole claim for me an tried to expidite the process for me as I made a deposit with the intent on paying my rent in a matter of hours.
Dont know when they finish the investigation but everything has been fine for a week now
I asked them if they were going to compensate me for my time/labor I'm doing on their behalf because of their failed technology. Totally b.s. to the point that I'm switching my business accounts with then to another bank after this.

I highly recommend Wells Fargo. I know they get a bad rep, but they are the best big bank by far.
He was depositing cash.
Of course the M in ATM stands for machine and this type of crap can happen. Sucks though
I think maybe the reason why im finding so many horror stories is that those who have been screwed are probably most likely to
Be vocal somewhere about it. For every one of them there are probably 10
Situations that go seamlessly where the customer doesn’t bother to share the experience anywhere

Same thing happened a few weeks ago still not resolved. It was a check for my business from a customer. Now the bank wants me to go to that customer and ask for proof of the check if it cleared or not, send them stub via fax etc. or get the check cancelled and reissued. Totally embarrassing to have to do that with a business customer. I flipped out on the phone rep who wad obviously in India reading from their canned lines in response to my displeasure.

You should be bounced for this, you fucking prick.
You're making extremely valuable contributions to this thread! Give the guy a break, dealing with a teller is safer, but he's right that it is a pretty shitty situation that his money is at risk for 45-days, and if the bank reverses the credit there is essentially nothing he can do. I would expect a better process than that.
Ridiculous.
