Start Webb

Thegratefulhead : 12/12/2017 9:11 am
Nothing new
Giants should start Webb Ranaan - ( New Window )
If they don't give Webb a look-see,
NorwoodWideRight : 12/12/2017 9:19 am : link
they're making a stupid, horrible mistake.
At least give Webb some experience.
Blue21 : 12/12/2017 9:22 am : link
If nothing else.
Yes they should
ZogZerg : 12/12/2017 9:27 am : link
This guy is suppose to be a "book worm"/hard worker. If he doesn't know what's going on by now, then he is obviously not the answer.
Subject Webb
Chip : 12/12/2017 9:27 am : link
to the players we are putting out there now because of injuries? 2 starting OL in Jerry and Flowers and only Shepherd at WR. No running game. This offense is bad and I don't know what kind of read you will get. It does protect Eli. This season can't end quick enough.
This is an injustice to the
MotownGIANTS : 12/12/2017 9:41 am : link
the money paying customers. Eli is done at best he has 1 more yr here IF they decide to go all in and cap and $$$ be damned to get him 1 more shot. Maybe to if we have good luck, something we seem to never have in abundance.
Granted, the offensive side of the ball is decimated
Section331 : 12/12/2017 9:43 am : link
with injuries, but you can still make evaluations on Webb. How does he go through his progressions, how well does he anticipate pressure (he'll have plenty of opportunity!), how does he do with defenders at his feet, does he deliver the ball on time? It's not ideal, but he is certainly worth taking a look at. I don't see the justification for not playing him.

It may show something. It may show nothing. Could be a surprise how he operates under pressure. At the very least he get's some experience.
Its so typical...
silverfox : 12/12/2017 9:44 am : link
...for this Giants regime to go into the next year with blinders on. If they draft a QB in the first round without ever seeing what Webb can do...its proof positive that this regime is a clueless bunch of men that all need to be fired. He doesn't have to start to protect Eli's sensitive pride, but to draft this guy and have a season that was over way back in October...to not even see him play, should be a felony.
The right thing but....
oldutican : 12/12/2017 9:51 am : link
Not sure how much you would learn about Webb in this situation where failure is near a sure thing. It would let him get his feet wet and that may be all.
This crap of putting him out there with this talent
mdthedream : 12/12/2017 10:03 am : link
Why not treat the damn thing like its preseason and see of the kid can move the ball up the field. It is not like we care if we lose. Look he doesn't play we will draft a QB and he never gets a chance at all so who cares.
Giants are drafting a quarterback
joeinpa : 12/12/2017 10:04 am : link
Whether Webb plays or not

I would like to see him play just out of curiosity, but I don t agree Giants have blinders on.

Webb gets a chance to compete next season, they ll know what they have.

If it turns out he s their starter, having another young good quarterback is a good asset
It's not just about evaluation either...
Dan in the Springs : 12/12/2017 10:05 am : link
it's also about growth and experience. You have an asset and this is the perfect opportunity (where a loss or poor performance doesn't hurt) to develop that asset - if for no other reasons than future trade value.

They already fired the GM and Coach. What would you like to see next? Mara firing himself? Knowing the playbook is one thing but making crucial calls at the line of scrimmage is where the great QB's shine. I would assume Davis is just not able to make these adjustments yet and would get killed out there.
only a few more weeks of starting Webb threads
UConn4523 : 12/12/2017 10:10 am : link
what will the next thread add that the others haven't?

I can't decide if I want Webb to play so the threads stop or if I don't want him to play just to see pissed off fans. Both choices have some upside...

Bingo. Play him. Nothing better for a QB than low expectations. If you can't take a few hits than football isn't your sport and besides, we should know that too. No sign of this Oline getting better any time soon. Also, at this point if Eli leads the team to a win that doesn't do much for the organization other than get us a worse draft pick. If Webb is capable of winning games it offsets the loss in draft value to properly evaluate an investment you already made.
Why not give him week 15?
DavidinBMNY : 12/12/2017 10:36 am : link
Give the kid an away game in nice weather. The Eagles are going to destroy us, if they want to play him in mop up duty that's ok, but he's not set up for success in that game.

Week 15 -> Davis
Week 16 -> Eli
He's still the #3 QB.....
Simms11 : 12/12/2017 11:05 am : link
they need to make him the #2 and so he can get the right reps in practice. Right now, I'd be surprised if he's getting any reps?! He's not going to play unless he's getting the right reps in practice and as long as Eli is starting and Geno is the #2, then we probably won't see him at all this year. He'll continue to be inactive and track plays on game day. I see Eli playing the season out and the last game against the Redskins might just be Eli's Swan Song!
I'd
AcidTest : 12/12/2017 11:13 am : link
only be mildly surprised if Webb is traded on draft day. The new GM has no investment in Webb, and therefore no loyalty to him. Webb would also take snaps away from the presumed #1 draft pick QB.

Right now, Webb is an unknown. Bad play, even in this situation, might reduce his trade value.

Of course, the opposite could also be true, namely that the Giants have already decided that he will likely succeed Eli, and don't want to damage their investment by putting him in meaningless games with this offense.
I think they don’t want to cut
NikkiMac : 12/12/2017 11:46 am : link
Geno Smith right now fearing the veterans around the league will say the Giants don’t care about the player blah blah blah and the fallout from the negative press it would create .
Geno is better than any of these kids
gtt350 : 12/12/2017 12:13 pm : link
he has experience, he knows the system and he can improve, so there
Man, oh man,
Doomster : 12/12/2017 12:25 pm : link
if a qb out of college doesn't know how to take snaps from center, WTF! Apparently Giant brass thinks it takes a red shirt year to learn this.....and yet, he was not getting any of those snaps up until recently....what is wrong with this picture?
How Much Assessment of Webb
clatterbuck : 12/12/2017 12:27 pm : link
will be available by throwing him on the field with this depleted roster? What will he be able to prove or disprove by getting his brains beat in by Fletcher Cox et. al? The assessment is he isn't ready to play. Those in the media calling for him to start are pushing a concept, and a facile one at best -- team stinks, starting QB on the downside, start Webb, nothing to lose. Except there is, the integrity of the franchise by putting an ill-prepared player at risk as well as the kid's future.

It’s just football dude it’s not like he’s going to Iraq and this kids been doing it since he was 8 years old and he didn’t look all flustered in his limited preseason action ..... some people act like NFL football is brain surgery
No we can't start Webb!
jeff57 : 12/12/2017 12:43 pm : link
Because, because, because . . . .

No, we can't start Webb!

Just use your common sense and agree with the thread proposition. That usually makes the threads go away...agreement.
Webb
Thinblueline : 12/12/2017 4:04 pm : link
Should absolutely get the start! It's called common sense. He has had plenty of time to work on his pro game. Let see what kind of potential the kid may have.. Dnt expect him to throw 4 touchdowns but see how he handles the pro game...
It’s not the last 2 games the other team
NikkiMac : 12/16/2017 5:08 pm : link
Is playing for something either now should be like a preseason game

I believe the Redskins and Cardinals are out of it aren’t they ?

Unless they’ve made up their mind based on practice. He could be waaayyy behind in their eyes. That would be awful. But given Reese’s third round pick history it wouldn’t surprise me.
