... in the workplace?
I've always been fortunate enough to work with very cool, realistic women in the handful of jobs I've held after college. I've always had a significant other along the way, and the one time I dated a co-worker, she was in a different department and we worked different shifts, so even if there was a temptation to be flirty at work, the opportunity was never there, so no worries.
I do recall a couple women I worked with when I was 32-25 age range. They were both older and my wife and I became solid friends with them and their husbands (they were at our wedding, we did Christmas parties in the same circle, that sort of thing.) And the closest it ever got was us joking one day about how we all WISHED someone would sexually harass us ... and how that might be nice for a change.
Obviously, an opportunity for jokes here. But curious if folks here have witnessed it, been in the middle (receiving, of course, since no BBIer would ever stoop) ... that sorta thing.
(((Someone rush to the obligatory MP photo, to get it out of the way.)))
Every year someone would get fired, for cheating on their spouses with other employees while on this strip. The last one I was on 3 people were canned upon arriving home.
Many years ago at a different job the boss had a party at his house. Can't recall the event, but it was a Sunday noon-to-evening sort of thing. Next morning we were learning about a guy we worked with, relatively new guy, who went home to his apartment complex, was apparently hammered, got a knife, went to his complex's laundry facility/pool house and held a Japanese woman at knife-point. Forced her into a closet and to undress. She got away. Her husband worked for Toyota at a southern Indiana plant and she spoke little English but she ID'd the guy. Yeah, he went to jail. That's bit past "harassment," though. Dude was clearly fucked up.

Were they fired for having sex with co-employees? Or were they fired solely because they had sex while married to someone else?
The VP was really careless, storing his expense reports in an unlocked file cabinet in an open bay area. A couple of the women went through his expense reports, and found charges for personal items, including hotel rooms in NY. This time, they went to HR, and he was frog marched out of the office. He got divorced, and died of a heart attack a short time later.
I remember thinking I didnt want to make a big deal or hurt her job standing, just wanted it to stop, so I never brought it up with HR or management.
Several months later I took a new position with the company that required relocating, so nothing came of it.
Then a year later she reported a friend of mine for looking up an NSFW website, and he got fired. I was pissed and wanted to throw her under the bus in retaliation...but deep down, I knew my buddy was guilty as charged and doing that wouldnt save his job, so let it go.
Point being, Im sympathetic to those who endure it, and the stress/uncertainty about whether its appropriate to bring up or not. And anyone who thinks its only men doing it to women is naive.
She was always on the flirty side... but I never reciprocated that (IMO). I was polite but stand-offish.
Anywho, she came over... moved my knees apart with her hands... moved her body into that space... and started laying hands on me.
Heck no... I hopped down and away immediately... I didn't know quite what to do, so I played it off with a laugh and said something like we need to finish up and get home... she didn't try any further advances.
FTR: I was in a relationship... to say nothing of the fact that it was the damn cash room and there were cameras everywhere... heck, someone could have been monitoring in the other room. Heck no.
Nothing came of it. Didn't report her. Over the course of time... she gained a reputation of someone who sleeps around... multiple dudes who worked there had stories about her. She probably had some sort of issue with the need for sex and attention, that's the way she came across to me.
One time in the World Trade Center, 2 traders were getting it from prostitutes they brought up. They were both fired the next day.
Other than that, just a bunch of senior male employees having sex with female subordinates.
l never thought these stories were true, until about ten years ago l had an experience that changed my mind.
l just had to share it with you.
l had resigned myself to another day of reading your magazine at my desk when there was a knock on my office door.
And when I opened the door, I could hardly believe my eyes.

In today's climate some if the kidding that went on both ways might be labeled differently l, but not then.
This one time he helps her computer situation and she wants to bring it in for a hug. lol. He's an unassuming, decent guy, so he does ... at lunchtime that day he's telling us that when she gave the hug, she both-hands grabbed his ass and (she's a big lady) actually picked him up a little bit. By the ass grope. lol
We were all so entertained (males and females) and he was joking about it ... nothing else occurred. It's just different when you're a guy, I guess. It's less of a deal, I suppose, since you really don't feel threatened.
I understand there are situations where it would be much more difficult. This one, though, was just funny as hell.
How the fuck do guys just drop their pants and "take it out" at work? lol I really don't get it. Do they truly see this as a non-issue? Gotta be mental problems in those cases.

I would hope he would be fired for shitting on some lady bits.
On a Friday afternoon, I am getting ready to leave for the day and she calls my extension and she tells me she put an envelope in my mailbox up front, but told me not to open it at work. I retrieved the envelope from my mailbox and went home. In the envelope was a six page letter telling me her ultimate sexual fantasies in graphic detail. I was mortified.
I returned to work on Monday. I walked into the break room shortly after arriving to get a cup of coffee and she walked in. She asked me if I read her letter. I told her that I did, and I did not appreciate her placing it in my mailbox. I told her I was not interested in her, I never had been interested in her and if she persisted, I would turn the letter over to HR. The look she gave me was a look of hurt and shock. I had already made it clear to her in the past that I was not interested in her.
She never said another word to me again.

In some parts of Asia, people pay good money for stuff like that.

Well said, mfsd. You are correct in that it is uncomfortable, along with the stress and uncertainity that weighs on you about bringing it up.

We actually use Sheep. Here we are doing some invasion training
I met my wife at the firm's Christmas party when we worked at the same firm. Definitely a "notorious incident" in my life, but it worked out OK! That was 1978.
Other than that, maybe one Christmas party at my firm, many, many years ago in the '80s ... we had some crazy ones.
I bring this up because in my early days, I worked with groups of 25-35 year old's who commonly worked 100+ hour work weeks. As a result, there was plenty of flirting, hooking up and comments between both sexes. Back then, nobody thought twice about this behavior because it was generally the result of people spending the majority of their waking hours together. Today, those same behaviors would be considered hostile (even if consensual) and cost people their jobs.

There were plenty of women at Oneonta State to choose from and these two were not my type.
Anyway, I thought if the situation was reversed and I broke into a coed's room in the middle of the night I would be leaving in cuffs.
with very big, lungs, openly would rub close to me, and my eyes would drop, then she would make a comment or two openly..and so much so the other people would just smile and laugh, including the male co-owners. It was rather embarrassing, since I was in a no win situation. Fortunately I was offered additional duty outside the office, and only had to be there the first hour and last hour of the workday.
About 10 years ago I was the 3rd day of training my new staff member I made what was actually an anti-harrassment comment that included the phrase 'unless I go crazy and ask you to sit on my lap'. She only heard or wanted to hear the last 4 words apparently. The next day I had 3 meetings having to defend myself before a Suspension hearing the next day. I avoided the suspension, and warned our employer to be careful with her as she may be troubling. I apologized to the young lady for what I may have misstated or what she may have misheard and that I shouldn't have even used that example. We worked OK together for a couple of years but I had to he very careful with my words, even when SHE would talk about any workplace romantic situation. She turned out being a troubled, and troubling employee who spent the last 2 years on paid stress leave.
The problem nowadays is How do you even APPROACH any, ANY, comment, with/about an attractive coworker, workplace romance or situation, a beautiful entertainer, a workplace visitor without using a word, even ' beautiful', handsome' 'sexy', or any other word that may 'offend' a hearer and gets you called up to the big office?
There IS harassment, then there is Perceived harrassment.
Glad I'm now retired or I'd be afraid to say Good Morning for fear of offending someone somehow.

It was my first older woman so believe me she did not suffer "long" at all
It is common and saying so isn't defending it. And acknowledging that women do it too isn't defending it nor is it diminishing the value of the claims that some women have. I have female friends that have had to quit jobs because of sexual harassment, for example, and worse than that. That is terrible, and I'm glad that it is becoming more acceptable to confront these issues. However, I also am aware of acquaintances that were falsely accused of rape. There should be some standard so which no one, regardless of gender, has to suffer serious legal or professional consequences due to unfounded allegations while protecting people from slimebags like Harvey Weinstein.
More than forty girls complained about it to the company commander, those two DS were arrested, and the lookout guy was taken out of training pending investigation into his role. Our DS told us to expect them to spend a long time locked up.

You probably won't believe this. But the girl in that scene? The blonde who says "ohhh Steve" as Dalton walks in? Then puts her hand over her mouth? She's actually a friend of my wife and I. lol She also appeared in a Playboy around that time frame, in one of those "Girls of the ________ (whatever college region, I can't remember)" She was NOT a girl of that college region, fwiw.

I believe you Beez.
That story is more amazing than the time Michael Jackson came over your house to use the bathroom and more amazing than the time you saved those old people from the nursing home fire....
These guys have no filter. They think sex is a game and women are the playthings. They are aggressive and will say anything to any woman at any time in any setting. They get into a woman's personal space. They lay hands on them without hesitation. They do this with the expectation they will be shot down. The continue and press forward until they are told "no". Some women - especially women who were abused as young girls - have real difficulty with sexual confrontation and can't say "stop" easily - their only recourse is to get away before it goes too far. They are easy targets for sexual predators (if you are unfortunate enough to know a victim of child sexual abuse who is now an adult, you will learn that they likely lived a life of being abused multiple times by different men ... the women think they attract them - the truth is different ... the predators hit on everyone ... the difference being the abused women are more likely to become victims than others)
Sorry for throwing cold water ... but this is a chilling thread to read ... I know a bit about it ... my wife of 35 years was a victim ... her 65+ grandfather lived her and her 8 siblings and had sex with her regularly starting when she was 7 ... like most girls, she kept quiet ... I was the first person she ever told ... when she was 45 ... it was one of the most traumatic experiences in my life ... she was in a fetal position, her arms around her belly, sobbing, for hours as her story slowly came out (btw, she didn't tell me ... I guessed ... a long story for another day) ...
I subsequently read LOTS about the subject ... went to counseling with her ... I have 4 daughters and I made sure they learned everything possible about the subject ... what I learned is that 1/3rd of all females in the United States have experienced SEVERE SEXUAL ABUSE before the age of 18 ... and that those statistics have remained pretty static in studies going back 100 years
And the impact is incredibly traumatic ... my wife, for example, while sexually abused ... was really much more emotionally abused ... this was her grandfather ... someone the rest of the family revered ... someone that she was told loved her ... but he treated her like a sex toy ... and dealing with the reality that her grandfather would treat her that way ... that she wasn't worthy of his love ... is much worse than the sex
Ok ... enough ... I can't go on ... even though it is all much much worse than I have had the ability to describe in this (relatively) short post

They got fired because it was a complete shit show. One guy was banging another coworker and got hammered and confessed his love for her to her husband at a club. Meanwhile the same guy's wife was on the trip as well. They were all blacked out.
The second couple worked in the corporate office, and this guy was on the trip with his wife, and I don't know if this was going on before hand or not, but ended up having sex with the head of HR on the trip. The CEO canned them as well. The whole company knew what was going on.
If it was a little more hush hush I don't think anyone high up would have known and it wouldn't have been an issue, but he also didn't like that these people were married and doing this stuff as well.
He is no longer allowed in the office if she's on a zoom or web conference.
Granted, my wife and I both work from home but she is really clamping down.

Likely wouldn't do it again as it's not worth the risk, and likely would have not done it in the first place, but she is very attractive so at the time I can't really blame myself in hindsight - I'm human. Thankfully I correctly judged it to be okay. I think there's more latitude when everyone is still at the 'party and drink' age, but wouldn't assume that to be the case. I have sympathy for both sides of the coin on this topic.

There is a great deal of ignorance among men of what constitutes sexual harassment. Many otherwise intelligent men do not perceive the effect on women of the stupid things that they say and do.
Sensitivity to, and respect for the feelings of female subordinates is something that does not come naturally to everyone. It needs to be taught.
The times they are a-changing.

Legal had to investigate and I was cleared. But it was pretty F'd up, and if the same thing happened today, I could easily see an even bigger headache, or worse.
Out of the fire; into the Pan.
I had Purell, just in case.
It's obvious that the current spotlight is on men as sexual predators, but I promise there are many women, maybe just as many who do the same.
In a role as a regional banking exec I spent a lot of time visiting banking centers, taking banking teams to dinner maybe 3-4 nights a week, sometimes more.
First time through I was hit on by someone at maybe 80% of these dinners. Occasionally it was a younger employee on the teller line, but the most consistent were the middle-aged, long-time bankers. Most of the top-producers were big time flirts and very comfortable exuding sexiness.
One story in particular I'll share because it was kind of funny. Over several meetings this lady about 10 years older than me was getting kind of flirty with me, just a little bit. My strategy with her to that point was to acknowledge her with a smile/chuckle and move on to safety. Anyway, she starts talking to me as I'm distracted by someone else, so I'm not really listening to her, just smiling, nodding and saying like "really?". At some point she slaps me on the arm and says "isn't that crazy?". I don't know what she's talking about exactly, so I just kind of go "wow... yeah". Then I start paying attention. She goes on talking about a sexual episode and I realize she's talking about something between her and me. Turns out she's telling me about a dream she'd had the night before about the two of us in the sack. YIKES! Had to be real careful around her after that.
Since I've moved on to teaching I've noticed that in this profession there are fewer professional flirts than in banking. However, I've had groups of women hit on me at conferences I've been to. Only one woman from my district has hit on me though - she was a substitute in our building one day. Later turned out to be an acquaintance of my wife. She hasn't been back to my school since, but I've run into her a time or two and it's still a bit awkward.
I had Purell, just in case.

For my second wife, I married a co-worker. We are now in our 22nd year of bliss. She made the first move and we probably wouldn't have hooked up if she hadn't. I just think it is more likely than not that awkward and inappropriate situations arise out of making sexual advances or references to sex in the workplace.
