...has the Giants selecting QB Baker Mayfield, University of Oklahoma with the second pick. (That's after Cleveland plays it safe with Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA at #1).
Also shows Buffalo making a big move up into San Fran's 4th slot (surrendering the 18th and 21st selections in the first round, as well as a second rounder) in order to take Sam Darnold, QB, USC.
Also, Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville at #11 to the Jets and Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming at #12 to Arizona.
So, all in all, 5 QBs with the first 12 selections.
2018 NFL Mock Draft - (
New Window )
Nothing against the kid and I think a lot of the negative stuff about him is blown way out of proportion but I think the Giants are going to try to find their new Eli, a true pro's pro. Someone boring and all about the football.
Personally I think their dream may just be Darnold, high floor and high ceiling, and I agree he is the big get in this draft, but that is just my opinion.
No way we take Mayfield over Darnold.
I live near DET -- with Lions years-long pathetic run game, the idea they'd take a Center in the first round before the Stanford RB (Bryce Love?) is insane.
The Broncos will take Josh Allen. They need a QB as much as the Giants. Paxton Lynch is not the answer.
?? Manziel a squirrely 6 ft 188 and Tebow 6'4" 250 lb. Which one is he cloned too...?
Wonder how much this season will hurt Allen, as he looked terrible when healthy, and was hurt late. The offense as a whole has been largely bad. I know he has all the measureables, but it worries me that hes never really played in a big time game or put up great numbers in a bad league.
...that drives me a little crazy.
The good news is he appears to get the ball out pretty quickly, but he looks like an MLB pitcher on the mound, winding up.
Oh, well... maybe I'm being over-critical about the playmaker from USC.
ps Baker Mayfield will be a Top 10 Draft pick. At least. More likely a Top 5. Depend upon it.

I watched the ESPN sports science piece on Darnold and they had his reaction time as off the charts.
Agreed.
1. Darnold
2. Mayfield
3. Rosen
4. Allen
5. Jackson

5. Jackson
If Allen is in the top 5 of their QB choices we made some bad hires. The guy hasn't produced in college. A major red flag
Wentz came from a similar program at NDST where the competition was on par with Wyoming.

Wentz has as many yards in 7 games his senior year as Allen has in 10. With more TDS and less INTs.
Allen might have all the physical tools but he’s a major project when it comes to being an NFL QB. There’s a very good possibility he’s not one.

The Giants can't screw around with this pick. Mayfield is a great College QB, but his projection to the pros is hit and miss. Darnold is a competitor and has the necessary mobility and skills to succeed. Rosen is very skilled, but you'd have to question his fire/desire and competiveness.
I basically agree, but why do you "have to question" Rosen's desire and competitiveness?
Just my impression. His desire to play the game has been brought into question before. There's no denying his talent, just question the intangible of competiveness. Hey, I could be totally wrong.
Me too.
I agree. I think he's there guy.

And much like Simms, they're forecasting his skill set at the NFL level as opposed to how many wins he had in college.

He also had a much better set of players around him with a decent running game and a good Defense and an easier schedule

I think the Giants will rank them:
1. Darnold
2. Mayfield
3. Rosen
4. Allen
5. Jackson
Rosen and Darnold would almost definitely be 1-2 in either order. And I'm not sure Mayfield is ahead of Jackson (or Allen). We're a team that likes to look at Wonderlic scores and character.
I'm pretty sure they will factor in a kid born and raised in Texas, playing in Oklahoma might not be the best fit for NYC, given the stories of his partying. If Manziel can get in trouble in cleveland - well you can figure it out from there.
Incredible.
