At this point, would Philly take Eli?

Route 9 : 12/12/2017 12:54 pm
Now of course Carson Wentz is out ...With that offensive line, better WR, veteran QB who has experience in the playoffs. Say Eli was sitting on the bench this whole time and had time to digest the Eagles system and know the players and at this point, Eli was available.... do you think they would take him (or you would if you were an Eagle fan) over Foles?

Just a fun discussion for a debate
that would be worse than Huff to the 'Skins

Well that's my question if you were them....you would rather have Eli over Foles no?
There is nothing fun about this discussion

He can get them to the Super Bowl, get them down by 4 to the one inch line and throw an INT on the last play with his left hand. I mean everybody else here is crowning them Champions anyway

That was as a FA and few years and a franchise separating him from the Packers. You see a lot of weird player/team combos late in players' careers when they are hanging on.
First, there is no way the giants would deal him to a division team.
Matt M. : 12/12/2017 1:27 pm : link
Second, there is less chance they would deal him to a division team in serious contention. Third, from an Eagles perspective it would be an interesting decision just because it is so late in the season.
I doubt anybody
Mark C : 12/12/2017 1:29 pm : link
not wearing big blue-colored glasses would consider that an upgrade at QB. Maybe at training camp, but certainly not in week 14.

Eli is not viewed nationally right now with the same reverence or respect that Giants fans have for him.

This is not gimpy Peyton Manning on the Broncos, Eli was never as cerebral as a play caller as Peyton and the Eagles don't have the 2015 Broncos D.

So I guess you're saying he is less than nothing now? I mean if I remember correctly. I don't think I even remember Peyton Manning making one play that whole Super Bowl.

That was my point about the timing in the season. All things equal, Eli is a much better QB than Foles. But, going in to week 14, I don't know what kind of impact would be realistic to expect.

I think he maybe made 1 play in the SB, but if you listen to Mike Tomlin post-game after losing to the Broncos in the playoffs he said on defense they were constantly kept "off balance" and Peyton called one of the best games against his defense that he could ever remember. Pretty much gave Peyton credit for the W.
are you crazy? Eli to the green slime?
Victor in CT : 12/12/2017 1:47 pm : link
It would be like trading Sam Huff to the Redskins.

oh wait......

njm : 12/12/2017 1:52 pm : link
A playoff contender with what was called the best WR corp in the NFL and a promising rookie TE?
.....
Route 9 : 12/12/2017 1:54 pm : link
I think with the Eagles offensive line, the number two rushing attack in the league, Jeffery and resurrection of Nelson Agholor, I would have confidence in saying Eli could do a tad better than Peyton did in his 2015 "run." Which was...nothing. Ok, cool I like Tomlin but eh like you said, it was that defense that carried him.

You are right the Eagle defense is certainly not the 2015 Denver team. The defense for Philly will struggle against Atlanta, New Orleans and Seattle.

Not like Foles blew anyone's mind in 2013 when he had that 27 to 2 INT ratio, probably the luckiest QBing I've ever seen in my life. That was with McCoy, Desean and the immortal Riley Cooper. Then he came back down to earth and looked less than ordinary in 2014 minus the home-run guy (DeSean Jackson).
At this point

Such a dark time for one of my alltime favorite Giants.
I like to believe that the players
giants#1 : 12/12/2017 2:09 pm : link
especially those that have been with the team as long as Eli, hate the division rivals as much as we (the fans) do. Thus, this is a silly question since there's no way in hell Eli would waive his NTC to play for that dump!

In reality, most players probably have little "allegiance" to the team (Jacobs notwithstanding!)

I really don't think that is the case with Giants fans at all. In fact, if he hadn't been benched it wouldn't even be close to the case. I think the reaction was to how it went down and not his play.

I think the loyalty does exist. Except, when a team makes it clear to a player that they don't want him anymore, it's perfectly rational for that player to reassess that loyalty, especially when being stubborn about it could cost them money.

Eli's never going to wind up playing for the Eagles, but if the Giants basically laid it down for him and told him he wasn't needed anymore, I wouldn't hold it against him for signing a contract there. He probably wouldn't even need to sell his house in Hoboken.
If Eli ends his career on an NFC East rival

Maybe not all Giants fans, but certainly some.

He wanted to be paid as a starter the year he rehabbed his knee and the Giants said no and signed him to a 300K physically unable to perform contract. He then had to sign a waiver to play for Philly despite going against the advice of the surgeons who operated on his knee.

Little trivia about Bavaro is he is a published author of a fictional book regarding the NFL

I heard two Eagle fans discussing the
