Haven't seen a thread on this...
NYCFC (the soccer team) and the Islanders have submitted competing bids to develop a plot of land at Belmont Racetrack. The plans consist of a 26,000 seat soccer stadium (NYCFC) or an 18,000 seat arena (Islanders), together with retail/community space.
Frankly, I don't think this area needs yet another major hockey/basketball arena, with MSG, Barclays, refurbished Nassau Coliseum and Prudential Center in Newark. On the other hand, while NYCFC's stadium would be primarily for soccer, presumably it could be used for other sports like high school and college football, soccer and lacrosse - and right now, other than Hofstra's and Stony Brook's very small stadiums, Long Island (including Brooklyn and Queens) has no non-baseball outdoor stadiums to speak of.
So, I hope NYCFC's entry wins.

Is renovated Nassau Colosseum even nice? I haven't been yet, but I hear it's still a dump.

It’s still a dump.
Well, if the outdoor stadium wins the track can sell them plenty of fertilizer.
NYCFC doesn't even want to build a stadium there.
Insane.
Seems to make too much sense. Good road and transit connections, plenty of parking, and sharing venues between organizations that don't have schedule conflicts.
