Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, the Moody Blues, the Cars and Nina Simone will all join the class of 2018. Sister Rosetta Tharpe will be given an Early Influence award.
Sorry Bon "F******* Jovi?? They were mediocre band with one big album
how in the world are they in RRHOF?
there are many more influential bands that deserve it more that Bon "F******* Jovi
THE PIXIES!
The Smiths
Joy Division/New Order
The Cure
The Jam
Husker Du
The Replacements
Haters, move along, nothing for you here ..........
I love BBI.
~20 albums (depending on how you count them)
11 Albums in the Top 10, with 2 more Compilation Albums
and frankly two other songs which are my favorites, Runaway and In/Out of Love, weren't top 10 because they were early on before they were famous. This easily would've been top 10 if released later on.
The Smiths
Joy Division/New Order
The Cure
The Jam
Husker Du
The Replacements

That's not really something to brag about.
Oh well - who cares really. Enjoy the music and ignore things like this.

You've only heard of one of these bands? It's no wonder you like Bon Jovi!
While I don't care for Bon Jovi, PP is right, their longevity and # of hit records gets them in. I think the Cars get in because they are one of the first post-punk new wave bands to hit it big.
All of the bands listed above are deserving, it will be interesting to see which ones get in. I think it will be the Mats, the Cure, and Husker Du.
They should just be honest and change the name to Jann Wenner's Record Collection.

It should also be about influence
My list of bands is among the most influential bands of the past 30 years
Without The Pixies there would be no Nirvana or Pearl Jam (both in RRHOF)
Without The Cure no Smashing Pumpkins , no NIN
Bon Jovi is this band that sold records but they are generic Springsteen retreads with a pretty boy lead singer..
Funny Jann Wenner famously has prevented them from getting into Hall for years and years .. I Guess he missed the meeting this year ?

Yeah, no.
Nirvana and the Pixies formed at basically the same time. Kurt liked the Pixies, tried to make Teen Spirit sound like one of their songs.
Husker Du at least were earlier and bit influential, but had no staying power, and have no songs most people know. And this is coming from a Bob Mould fan.
The Cure at least has the combo of commercial success and being influential.
Without the Pixies, there might never have been Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Cobain was trying to come up with a pop song and decided to emulate the Pixies. But the majority of Nirvana's work was rooted in the Seattle Grunge scene.
That's why I hate some of the discussion on music threads. A ton of overexaggeration happens. Without the Pixies, chances are music just wouldn't have the Pixies and Cobain would've emulated somebody else for a pop song.
Pixies first EP Come On Pilgrim was released 1987. the year Nirvana was formed
in the US alternative scene it was seminal EP along with Pixes first album Surfer Rosa released the next year in 1988 ( the year of Nirvana's first single).
You can hear Pixies influence all over Nirvana , Pearl Jam , Weezer , and even early Radiohead. The fact that they aren't in Hall is really amazing .
I just assume they're not in for the same reason George Young isn't in the NFL HOF, most people assume they're both already in.
Pixies lacked commercial success is the only argument I've heard against them and I find it very weak.
Frank Black will go down as one of the most influential and talented musicians of his era who just isn't very well known.
My view, this year's inductees look solid.
For the anti-Bon Jovi takes, it IS the Hall of FAME, rather than the hall of greatness. I'm not a big fan of their stuff, but lots are!
You are reaching pretty hard to find the influences there.
Nirvana was already established when they tried to go the "pop route", and the Pixies tie-in was for Smells Like Teen Spirit.
I was going to say the same thing

The Hall of Fame should be about greatness, or at least very goodness, unless we're ready to induct Tim Tebow if the Pro Football HOF.
LOL, just saw this. Amen to that!
they're probably a top 10 biggest snub right now.
when they put shit like Green Day in the HOF, but not the Pixies all you do is encourage bands to be less creative and more commercial.
and my guess is the Pixies give less a shit about it than any fans do.

Obviously none of these bands come close to approaching Bon Jovi in popularity and mass appeal, but when you post something as mind numbingly dumb as this, you really put truth to the notion that you're a fool.
The first Velvet Underground Record sold 30K - the joke was that every person that bought that record started a band . They wisely put Velvets in the hall because their influence is still felt today.
The Pixies are a band like this .. they might have not sold many records but their influence on music for the past 28 years has been huge.

Every band member you have cited, Velvet Underground, Pixies, etc., would all place Warren Zevon as an influential genius. So I am agreeing that these people need to have a place ...
wow... those were the days

At least he is being honest. Those bands collectively probably sold 15000 recordings. The R and R HOF doesn't care about some indie head banging band that produced 3 albums, sold 1500 records and went off to oblivion in 1990. Bon Jovi has sold 130 million records and had 34 million attend 2700 concerts- you may not like it, but those numbers get you in.
The Cure have been around 40 years, were on South Park, sold out three nights at MSG just last year, have songs in national commercials, and their song 'Friday I'm in Love' is still played on terrible radio stations right before 'Working for the Weekend'.
They're a poor example.

OK, so in all seriousness I sort of like The Cure and The Smiths. New Order bluch, and the other I have seriously nerd heard of. However we are talking about a HOF here, and none of these bands reach even close to that level.
A few people liking them, or thinking they have influence over a HOF band, doesn't meet the mark.
Oh well - who cares really. Enjoy the music and ignore things like this.
that's criminal. However, they stood up to the record industry so they knew they would be punished and retaliated against.
