Happy for one and all of them. R&R music lovers enjoy.

Haters, move along, nothing for you here ..........

Induct..

the Cure, the Smiths and Morrissey and see if any of them smile or commit mass suicide at the podium.
I love Bon Jovi, glad they are in. I am amazed the Moody Blues took

this long to get in. To me the Cars were surprising. I liked them but didn't think they had enough hits. Certainly many less hits than Bon Jovi.

OP bashes one of the most popular bands of all time claiming they aren’t any good, yet lists several “deserving” bands that most people couldn’t even name 1 song they came out with.

I love BBI.
and for the record Bon Jovi had a long career
PatersonPlank : 12/13/2017 9:26 am : link
10 songs that were Top 10 in the U.S.
~20 albums (depending on how you count them)
11 Albums in the Top 10, with 2 more Compilation Albums

and frankly two other songs which are my favorites, Runaway and In/Out of Love, weren't top 10 because they were early on before they were famous. This easily would've been top 10 if released later on.
I literally have heard of 1 of these bands (or are they solo artists)

With that list of yours I would LOVE to hear your criteria for making the R&R HOF. I have heard all of these bands. Yet, put them all together and they cannot compete with Bon Jovi as far as stamina in the industry and record sales and concert tour revenues. Just wow!Bon Jovi should have been in years ago.

You've only heard of one of these bands? It's no wonder you like Bon Jovi!

While I don't care for Bon Jovi, PP is right, their longevity and # of hit records gets them in. I think the Cars get in because they are one of the first post-punk new wave bands to hit it big.

All of the bands listed above are deserving, it will be interesting to see which ones get in. I think it will be the Mats, the Cure, and Husker Du.
Bon Jovi is garbage.

Induct the classic rock staples who haven't been admitted yet and throw in one R&B/hip hop artist.

They should just be honest and change the name to Jann Wenner's Record Collection.

The Smiths
Joy Division/New Order
Radiohead

all belong in it. Bon Jovi ... meh.

Complete travesty. Molded an entire genre of music and influences every metal band from 80s on and still can’t get in. If anyone on that list deserves it for what the Hall is supposed to be about (influencing Music) as opposed to popularity, it’s Judas Priest.

Stupid.

no just record sales

Hall of Fame isn't and should n't just be about Record Sales

It should also be about influence

My list of bands is among the most influential bands of the past 30 years

Without The Pixies there would be no Nirvana or Pearl Jam (both in RRHOF)
Without The Cure no Smashing Pumpkins , no NIN

Bon Jovi is this band that sold records but they are generic Springsteen retreads with a pretty boy lead singer..

Funny Jann Wenner famously has prevented them from getting into Hall for years and years .. I Guess he missed the meeting this year ?

Yeah, no.

Nirvana and the Pixies formed at basically the same time. Kurt liked the Pixies, tried to make Teen Spirit sound like one of their songs.

Husker Du at least were earlier and bit influential, but had no staying power, and have no songs most people know. And this is coming from a Bob Mould fan.

The Cure at least has the combo of commercial success and being influential.

This isn't..

Without the Pixies, there might never have been Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Cobain was trying to come up with a pop song and decided to emulate the Pixies. But the majority of Nirvana's work was rooted in the Seattle Grunge scene.

That's why I hate some of the discussion on music threads. A ton of overexaggeration happens. Without the Pixies, chances are music just wouldn't have the Pixies and Cobain would've emulated somebody else for a pop song.
Or..

Pixies first EP Come On Pilgrim was released 1987. the year Nirvana was formed
in the US alternative scene it was seminal EP along with Pixes first album Surfer Rosa released the next year in 1988 ( the year of Nirvana's first single).

You can hear Pixies influence all over Nirvana , Pearl Jam , Weezer , and even early Radiohead. The fact that they aren't in Hall is really amazing .
The Pixies
pjcas18 : 12/13/2017 1:40 pm : link
deserve to be in over many bands already in the HOF IMO.

I just assume they're not in for the same reason George Young isn't in the NFL HOF, most people assume they're both already in.

Pixies lacked commercial success is the only argument I've heard against them and I find it very weak.

Frank Black will go down as one of the most influential and talented musicians of his era who just isn't very well known.
Really annoying
Beezer : 12/13/2017 1:42 pm : link
how Zevon isn't in.

My view, this year's inductees look solid.

For the anti-Bon Jovi takes, it IS the Hall of FAME, rather than the hall of greatness. I'm not a big fan of their stuff, but lots are!
Early Radiohead??
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/13/2017 1:45 pm : link
They started in 1985 and had success locally in UK. In 1992, I think they hired a producer who had worked with the Pixies for their album with EMI but "Creep" was reportedly already written and just not recorded yet.

You are reaching pretty hard to find the influences there.

Nirvana was already established when they tried to go the "pop route", and the Pixies tie-in was for Smells Like Teen Spirit.
The Pixies had some influence over Nirvana
moespree : 12/13/2017 1:45 pm : link
But so did Black Flag, Flipper, Black Sabbath and many others. Their drumming changed when Grohl joined due to his D.C. and Northern Virginia punk scene influence.

which is an intangible and anecdotal, the quality of the Pixies entire catalog is far higher quality than many artists already in the HOF.

they're probably a top 10 biggest snub right now.

when they put shit like Green Day in the HOF, but not the Pixies all you do is encourage bands to be less creative and more commercial.

and my guess is the Pixies give less a shit about it than any fans do.

Still no Cure? Still don't care then.

At least he is being honest. Those bands collectively probably sold 15000 recordings. The R and R HOF doesn't care about some indie head banging band that produced 3 albums, sold 1500 records and went off to oblivion in 1990. Bon Jovi has sold 130 million records and had 34 million attend 2700 concerts- you may not like it, but those numbers get you in.

Obviously none of these bands come close to approaching Bon Jovi in popularity and mass appeal, but when you post something as mind numbingly dumb as this, you really put truth to the notion that you're a fool.

giantfan2000 : 12/13/2017 5:39 pm : link
Britney Spears has sold as many records and filled as many concert seats as Bon Jovi but I don't think there is any argument she deserves to be in Rock Hall...

The first Velvet Underground Record sold 30K - the joke was that every person that bought that record started a band . They wisely put Velvets in the hall because their influence is still felt today.

The Pixies are a band like this .. they might have not sold many records but their influence on music for the past 28 years has been huge.

Every band member you have cited, Velvet Underground, Pixies, etc., would all place Warren Zevon as an influential genius. So I am agreeing that these people need to have a place ...

The Cure have been around 40 years, were on South Park, sold out three nights at MSG just last year, have songs in national commercials, and their song 'Friday I'm in Love' is still played on terrible radio stations right before 'Working for the Weekend'.

They're a poor example.
The Pixies absolutely
santacruzom : 12/13/2017 8:30 pm : link
Influenced Radiohead. The chronological order of when the bands formed and when albums we're released doesn't matter... You can definitely argue that sound and aesthetic Radiohead was going for when they turned the corner was largely informed by The Pixies. Thom Yorke himself has said they changed his life in college.

OK, so in all seriousness I sort of like The Cure and The Smiths. New Order bluch, and the other I have seriously nerd heard of. However we are talking about a HOF here, and none of these bands reach even close to that level.

A few people liking them, or thinking they have influence over a HOF band, doesn't meet the mark.
