thanks Sy. Must be tough rewatching these every week.

Gallman a pleasant surprise, someone who might actually outplay his draft position and initial scouting report.
great work as always Sy....

only that I tend to disagree with you on is Collins long speed. Did you see him catch up to Beasley after that big gain?
Shane Vereen
bluepepper : 12/13/2017 3:53 pm : link
another case of keeping a guy one year too long. No reason he or Dwayne Harris should have made this team. Once marginal players like this start to fall off whether due to injury or poor play they rarely bounce back. Give a Victor Cruz a shot to come back - I can live with because he was once a dynamic player but these other guys are or should be easily replaceable.

I did...Beasley isn't a speed guy

I think any thought of bringing Cruz back is putting you in the same position you were in with Harris and Vereen. Way past their prime and there will be far better options via the draft and FA than him.
Well,
Doomster : 12/13/2017 5:10 pm : link
there really isn't much to say about this team.....it's the same thing every week....

Our DE's are on sabbatical.....our linebackers suck.....we will be drafting another FS.....

Sy, I thought you were easy on Collins....that missed tackle on Beasley was huge....

Offensively, does Gallman really look any better than Perkins did at the end of last year?

As for Vereen, he is on the wrong team.....A Oline that can't block and a qb that can't lead a RB with a short pass.... He and Eli just are not on the same page, like he and Brady were....

Hard to comment on the OL, when you have guys out there that wouldn't be starters on other teams, maybe not even backups....

Eli is stuck with receivers that drop balls on third down, and basically can't get open long....It's just plain sad to see Eli dink and dunk......and when this offense is behind, and the dink and dunk goes out the window, it is just pathetic....

I agree with you Sy, SS did not take that next step, from his rookie season.....I am really disappointed in his play this year.....outside of the one long td, which was more a fluke, than anything else, he has had a rather pedestrian year.....

This offense is just broken.....may need 4 OLmen for starters next year.....I am not sold on Wheeler and Fluker....It needs a #2 WR, because SS is not that guy.....
I knew Double E would need a year of seasoning......hopefully he comes back next season, knowing how much he has to raise his game.....as for the RB position, with a better OL, they would be better, but they are average at best......and may get less attention, because of holes everywhere else....

As for QB, I think Eli still has a couple years left in him, just not with this team......the money(20M over 2 years) saved by cutting/trading him, would help us to rebuild the OL quicker, via FAcy.....and yes, this team will suck again next year, but that is part of the process....we need to get building blocks to turn this team around....we needed to start this process 6 years ago....we didn't.....and that's why we have missed the playoffs 5 out of 6 years, and have had woeful losing seasons, 4 out of 5 years....time to make those hard decisions, we did not make 6 years ago....
not advocating bringing Cruz back
bluepepper : 12/13/2017 5:14 pm : link
I meant that I was okay with them giving him a long look in 2016. Lesser players you have to cut bait with quicker when they're coming off injuries. Cold as that is.
Thanks Sy

Cockrell has been the most pleasant surprise of the season for me. I hope the Giants make it a priority to re-sign him. He provides insurance in the event that DRC is cut and/or Apple doesn't grow up.
Thanks Sy...

completely agree on your comments regarding the next HC. Steve Wilks has been linked to Gettleman. Do you see him being a guy that players would respond to? In watching his press conferences, he reminds me of Tomlin in his demeanor and his coaching style, so to speak.
No comment on the coaches?

I thought one thing that should have been noted was how Spags played so conservatively early on, then got burned by his aggression (blitzing) late. What can we attribute that to?

My guess is that he was feeling pretty good about the Giants moving the ball early on. He discounted the help the offense got from stupid Dallas penalties. Once Dallas cut back on those the Giants really struggled to maintain drives. There was no answer on offense, and Spags turned aggressive defensively in what had been a close game.

Will he be aggressive early against Philly on offense? Do you see him punting again from the opponents 37 yd line?

I hope he sees the importance with this offense of scoring TD's against a team like Philly when they give you a chance to get close. I'd rather he press the issue than play safe because I don't think the Giants can keep up offensively any other way.
Gallman was under-rated coming out of Clemson

He is the guy that did al the little things right that made that offense go. It has been frustrating to seem him get the limited reps at times this season. He still is a rookie and has things to learn but he is a complete football player. Not a gamebreaker, but a guy that can make an offense efficient.

All 22 is a viewing angle that comprises all 11 players on offense and all 11 players on defense at the same time. You can watch it via GamePass.

in on one play (and a scoring play to boot) is exciting. Somewhat...
Receiver routes
jbeintherockies : 12/14/2017 8:55 am : link
Are any deep routes even being attempted?

I understand there is no time, but they could max protect and take some deep shots. Since i can't watch the receiving routes develop on TV, I can't tell what is going on with pass play development. Maybe they have receivers running deep but are covered, so Eli takes the underneath stuff. Or maybe no one is running anything deep and it's all short and intermediate routes.

Yeah, I know, WCO is short and intermediate routes. But you need to take some shots down field, too, and it doesn't seem like they are doing that.
Four questions for you, Sy:
CT Charlie : 12/14/2017 10:45 am : link
1) How is Gallman as a blocker?
2) Do you still think Saquon Barkley is the best player in the draft?
3) Did Engram have a lot of drops in college?
4) Do you realize how much your opinions are respected on BBI?!

Thanks for all your work, and massive sympathy for having to rewatch the games this season.
People calling for a complete tear-down...
Racer : 12/14/2017 10:50 am : link
..need to read and re-read Sy's game reviews. There are plenty of young guys on this roster with their arrows pointing 'up'.

Impact LB; "new regime take notes and apply". Amen. Tough to miss all the quality LBs making huge plays against the run and in the middle of the field on the weekly highlight and matchup shows. Our team has Walmart specials.

Thanks Sy, for the reviews and carefully underscoring on a regular basis the quality of players surrounding the 37y old mid-line thrower in 2017.

Yes they send guys downfield, but I think it is just a way to separate the defense. Throwing downfield isn't in the cards often because there isn't anyone with legit deep ball threat in their game AND the OL still isn't trustworthy on deep drop backs

1) Average. Effort is there, power is not. Gets the initial pop but won't sustain well.

2) Barkley has taken a step back, but I still have him graded above everyone, yes.

3) Engram did not have a lot of drops, the unofficial number I have for his career is 14.

4) I don't like to think about it that way. Just want to talk football.
