goes unless we switch to a 3/4 (which we should) and he moves to OLB. JPP then becomes a 3/4 as he pretty much is now. In that scenario then OV stays but DRC goes.
Eli could go but I suspect in a trade not a release. I think Vereen goes and maybe Apple as well.
I don't think the cap space is even relevent at this point Â
It's highly unlikely the cut JPP one year after resigning him. Also while I don't know the details of JPP's contract, generally the earlier in the contract you cut a player the greater the cap hit.
Is almost .5 over the cap right now.
Cutting Eli, JPP,OV,Snacks; any 3 of the 4 gets you and where between about 45 to 58M of deadcap...feel free to double check my math.
Point being: eating tons of cap, then throw in Apples 12-14M and anybody else is just impractical in one year...unless you don't mind 25+ new faces of your top 51 playing at 540-580,000 per. And #suckingfor the sake of sucking to be a top 5 picker...again.

off hanging onto OV and JPP for another year, cap-wise.
I don't understand folks wanting to ditch DRC. He's a fine CB and won't be making a boat load of $. His cap hit for '18 is $8.5M. How do you replace him with = talent for less?

I think the 3-4 is a possibility. Can Moss play OLB?
Would Kennard or Hitchens from Dallas be a better ILB in the 3-4 to go along side Goodson?
I think JPP and Tomlinson can play DE in a 3-4. OV is gonna be effective as a stand up OLB. The team would still need to bring in more LB's to develop and back up.
You fools with a hard on for it are too stubborn to see it. The 3-4 is designed to stop the run, we are in a pass first league. There is a reason more teams run the 4-3 now than 10 years ago

Note: On the 2018 tab, OTC still has a higher estimate for next year's projected cap. Yesterday at the league meetings, teams were informed of the projected cap for next year. The projected cap for 2018 salary cap is $174.2-178.1M. The OTC estimate is either $1-6M over the projected cap.
while JPP has over 22 M in dead cap, thus OV is the easier cut.....
As for cutting DRC, I don't think this team is going anywhere next year, after that he is UFA......cutting him nets 4.5 M towards a younger replacement.....

DRC is a bargain. If anything, we should extend him as his replacement (Apple) can't even get a jersey on Sunday. Apple is closer to being moved than DRC.
But we are not truly into rebuild mode and there is no reason we should be. With some smart moves in free agency, a good draft, and most importantly, better luck with injuries, the Giants could be competing for a Super Bowl next year (Rosen will have to watch from the bench, but it will be a good learning experience).
If the cap is 171 to 176 M, our cap space is approx 23-28 M....
But that is based on, franchising OBj for 8.5 M, cutting no one, and re-signing no one......that means only 41 players are signed.....need 12 more players....
The cap increases if any combination of Eli, OV, DRC, Marshall, Jerry, Harris, Hart, etc. are cut......and whoever you cut adds to the 12 players needed....Eli, OV, DRC, and Marshall gives you about 25 M.....but now, you also need 16 more players to be signed....
I have no idea which way this team is headed....does Mara stick his head in and just want moderate changes in exchange for just a winning season, like he wanted two years before, or is he willing to let the new GM, make the hard choices for the future of this team?
Heading into the offseason, Giants are at 28mil but will gain 2-3 mil from the carryover and unclaimed bonuses (only 1 mil of cap space will carry-over)
the most obvious moves to clear cap space are
1.) Cut Marshall and save 5.1 mil
2.) Cut Harris and save 2.45 mil
3.) Cut Armstrong and save 1.25 mil
4.) Cut DRC and save 6.5mil
With these 4 moves, the Giants will have 43.8mil of cap space (potential 46-47mil) BUT only 39 guys under contract
OTC estimates the Giants will have 10.6mil spent on rookies if they pick in the #2 draft slot
That gives the Giants 33.2 mil cap space left and 46 guys under contract (39 + 7 draft picks), and the top 51 contracts count against the cap
NOW... there is also a few guys who I think are potential cuts who I didn't include
1.) Eli- save 9.8mil- probably not going to happen
2.)John Jerry- save 2.5mil(would think twice about this though because he has been solid and 2.5mil is a reasonable price)
After these 2 moves, Giants COULD have 56 mil in cap space
Is almost .5 over the cap right now.

You don't release a first round pick like Apple, even if he is a bit of a head case....hopefully a new HC can straighten him out.....
Vereen is a UFA, and won't be re-signed....Harris will be gone too.....
Another victim could be DRC.....he is another year older, and his net of 4.5M could be used towards his replacement....
You should include JPP.

Giants have 30mm in cap space next year.

JPP looks to be cuttable after ‘18. Too big of a hit this year.

Apple goes via trade not release. BUt, he needs to go period. He is a waste of space and will be an issue going forward.

let's not start that again
DRC
Jerry
Harris
Saves roughly 17 million. All no brainers except DRC
Switching to 3-4 in itself isn't going to make the defense better. It's about having the players to execute the system you have in place.
