very weird. I don’t mean that in a bad way, or even a judgmental one. I mean that he is constantly, at all times, consumed by child-like wonder, and that this is an unusual way for adults that play in the NBA (or do anything, really) to be. It’s not as if Beasley has lost a step. Nearly a decade and two stints in the Chinese Basketball Association later, this former No. 2. overall pick is still obviously blessed with unusual talent. If it is a bucket you seek, he can procure a bucket. He will find a way. He will batter his way down low with his butt, he will roll off his defender like water, he will explode right past the sturdy and spidery Julius Randle. Sit back and watch Beas work. He can get you the bucket. He wants to get you the bucket. Don’t worry about it. But watch him improvise in the interstitial spaces between jump shot and layup—strange little leaners, floaters, and tip-ins emerge from his hands, smoother than they have any right to be. Catch him mid-flight, teetering back at a 45-degree angle with three enemy limbs clotting his field of vision, and still his body maintains its simple stoned composure. “A lot of his shots may look like they’re off balance, but those are shots he shoots and makes all the time,” Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said last night. I submit that when Michael Beasley is playing even reasonably well—in that humble subset of NBA games—he has one of the most telegenic offensive repertoires in the league. |
They are playing like the Knicks did last year, every time down it is alternating shots...
They need melo to take a step back and sacrifice his shots, Westbrook and George should be go to guys
Really incredible to think about it. The Knicks fleeced Sam Presti.
The Knicks.
FLEECED.

Don’t forget we got the Bulls second round pick. Which is basically a late first.
Kanter has mostly been as expected, right? McDermott has been a nice surprise. But the upside going forward for both of them was always going to be somewhat mitigated by their respective contract situations. Final evaluation of this deal will be made when we see their next contracts.

Knicks could trade for Durant for nothing and you would find the negatives in the deal
Zero chance

sorry, contracts matter.
it's not impossible that all of these deep playoff runs for their key players may catch up to them and they'll simply run out of gas at some point.

There isn’t a Knicks fan on the planet that expected this kind of contribution from Kanter.

you're right, he's totally been a different player since coming over! Oh wait, that's total bullshit. He's not doing anything that he hasn't previously shown in his career. His PER is basically identical to what he posted in the last 2 years.
If someone would of told you Frank Lee mcbuckets Beasley and up were closing out a game they would of laughed and said how much Knicks losing by
LOl there is no way in hell I'm going down that road. If a miracle happened and he came here great. There's no way I'm believing that until he's at the press conference.
If he doesn't go to LA or Houston, I could see him staying in the East & teaming up with Embiid & Simmons in Philadelphia.
Tyler Zeller is a pretty brutal matchup to put out there, i like what i have seen from jared allen, who has been good.
KP should have a field day size wise on RJH, Acy, and Carroll. ANd knicks should do well on the glass.

Sorry, this is utter nonsense. PER does not reflect defense outside of blocks and steals. Kanter has a positive DBPM and DRPM for the first time in his career. Playing next to a guy like KP who is a dominant rim protector has changed him defensively. I'm still not sold that KP wouldn't be better as a 5 with a defensive minded, switchable 4 next to him, but Kanter has definitely been WAY better defensively this year then anytime in his career.

So he's better because he doesn't have to worry about protecting the rim as much? Ok...
Lost Durant for nothing
Then the Melo trade
I remember thinking the Suns KP trade talks were laughable. "Booker was untouchable". If I were Phoenix I would have given up anyone on the roster for KP. Booker is a nice player but his ceiling is nowhere near KP and he's also a terrible defender.
Thank god Phil wasn't allowed to make any KP trade. There's not many players in the NBA I would consider trading him for. He's not a top 5 player yet, but his trade value may be in the top 5 range. He simply does things that very few if any players are capable of doing.

Why is that weird? Players aren't robots, of course they will look better in certain roles. He'll never be a plus defender, but for the first time in his career he's not a negative one. Absolutely role plays a part in that.

has been awful, Bender awful, Chriss awful... Len looks like he's having a breakout and I love Booker but the Suns have not had much luck via the draft (100000% not giving up on Jackson, or even Chriss, Bender probably just sucks)

I legit had trouble sleeping the night where the KP/Suns/Celtics stuff were at their peak. I didn't want to trade him under any realistic circumstances but the only way it made any sense was a Celtics picks/young talent "overpay". A chance to add 3-4 young pieces. I still wouldn't have celebrated but I would have "accepted". The Suns stuff was horrifying. Imagine this same team minus KP and with Josh Jackson/Bledsoe/Bender... horrific.
We'd all be in complete meltdown mode, wanting to burn the garden to the damn ground.

It's not weird but I'm not going to throw a parade for the guy either. Sometimes players improve a facet of their game via hard work. Other times they look better (or worse) due to a change in circumstances. This is the latter. So my original point (Kanter has mostly been as expected) remains.
Freakin Wayne Ellington .116 WS/48 while with Miami
Whiteside
James Johnson
Tyler Johnson
Adebayo has been very good for a rookie in limited minutes
He didn't get quicker, start hustling more, or grow longer arms. He's the same guy. He's simply on a team that can better hide his weaknesses.

unfortunately he wasn't good enough to make Phil's 17 win Knick team of 2014/2015.

Kanter is clearly quicker and better on defensive because of it this year. He has definitely improved defensively.

He lost about 30 lbs so it makes sense he would be a little quicker on his feet.
