NGT: Pats accepted less for Jimmy G. from SF than the Browns

Mike in St. Louis : 12/15/2017 1:08 pm
because they wanted to do right by him and not make him play in Cleveland? at least according to Schefter...

"And if that’s all true, the cold-hearted, bottom-line-only Patriots took less from the 49ers (if the Browns were going to trade a second and third for McCarron, you have to imagine they’d have done the same or more for Garoppolo), just to save Garoppolo from having to go to the Browns. Ouch.

There’s some speculation involved from Schefter so this shouldn’t be taken as absolute fact, but Schefter is plugged in and if that’s all true, the Patriots getting a relatively short return on Garoppolo then makes sense. Also, if it’s true, can you imagine the reaction in the Browns’ front office when news of the trade broke?"

Garoppolo is a FA at the end of the season but the Browns could have franchised him if he didn't want to sign an extension with them...

Wrench that is moving him to the NFC is a better outlier. They believe he'll be good thus the last-minute trade and out of conference.

This.
that's the wrench

and the screwdriver is that it proves Jimmy G will have some success, thereby eliminating him from discussions amongst the Cleveland brass
What a reputation Cleveland has...

the Pats gave a crap about Jimmy G's feelings or about his career path. There is zero evidence over the last 20 years of them doing this for any player in their organization.

they traded him to the NFC. The end.
The Fact that Jimmy G.

probably wouldn't sign an extension with the Browns would probably lower the compensation, Franchise tag or no.
This could be true

SF is a much better situation for a young QB.
I don't buy it

he's free to leave SF or Cleveland or whoever he was traded for unless he was tagged for an obscene amount of money.
this is the same Patriots organization

that exiled Richard Seymour, a multiple-time All-Pro and champion who meant a helluva lot more to the franchise than Jimmy Garoppolo ever did, to a Raider team that had posted double digit losses for six consecutive seasons. The idea that they wanted to spare poor Jimmy Garoppolo so much that they took less in return is laughable.
I read that story

And it seemed like it was more Schefter and/or Frank Schwab from "Shutdown Corner" (who is a fake sports journalist) putting imaginary pieces together. While plausible, there was nothing concrete to show that there was even an offer made from Cleveland, just a vague reference that "they tried to get him in the spring and again in the fall," and pure speculation that they would've offered more for Garropalo than what is RUMORED that they offered for McCarron.

Basically, it's another click-bait article from Frank Schwab, who is a blogger, not a real journalist, and not a good one at that. I'm just astounded at what passes for "news" these days and how anybody good publish this kind of drivel with a straight face, much less stand on their writing or be proud of their "work".

If it seems like I'm going over the top, it's because I've read enough from Frank Schwab to know how much he sucks out loud.

TL;DR: Fake news, pure speculation, click bait, Frank Schwab is a phony.
If there's any truth to it at all...

It could simply be that they chose the Niners 2nd round pick over the Browns 2nd round pick despite the conventional wisdom that the Browns pick would be ahead of the Niners pick. It such an unpredictable situation, why not send him to the NFC team instead of the AFC team?
They did it so the 49ers wouldn't resign Colin Kaepernick

Absolutely correct. We're supposed to believe that Belichick suddenly is emotional about players? What a crock.

Yet according to Bill Barnwell, the Browns are a better situation for a coach than the Giants.

Stupid story and pure speculation.
What signs has Belichick given that he cares about anything but winning.
He has bought low and sold high for his whole career.
Britt and Bennett this year alone.

Pats care so much about jimmy G but don't care about the browns? They are cruel. What did the browns ever do to them?

What makes it worse is that the whole "white knight allure is gone since BreLon won a championship for the city. A QB could be sold on being the guy that brought not only Cleveland, but the Browns their first glorious title in forever thereby making him a hero of immense proportions. Now that thats gone, you are just a quarterback that has to play in Cleveland.

Micko : 12/15/2017 6:37 pm : link
Wouldn't it make sense they preferred an NFC team? Not to mention they like the guy so they send him to a good situation?
