How does everyone feel about his candidacy for HC?
My first question would be, how is the Fassel name viewed within the Giants organization? We know the Giants like bloodlines and familiarity but for whatever reason I get the sense it didnt end well between Jim and the org but maybe I'm off base?
Anyway, Special Teams coordinators don't seem to get the league-wide respect that O and D coordinators get when their units perform. Obviously specials account for a lesser part of a football game but they are no less important. Specials coordinators also work with the lower third of each roster, so built into their job description is getting the most out of the 42nd, 43rd, 44th guys on the team who are clearly more limited in their ability. The only time I can think of ST coordinator moving right to a HC is Harbaugh to Baltimore, which has been a smashing success for them.
All that said, I don't know a whole lot about Fassel but I do think he makes an intriguing candidate. Aside from the obvious connection, the guy is clearly great at what he does. What more can you ask for other than a unit that consistently performs, leads the league and impacts games the way his does?
He had the interim stint last year in LA for an 0-3 record. I don't know how much that should be held against him or if at all considering interim gigs are very difficult. As far as McVay then getting the nod? So far McVay looks like a stud himself so maybe he was just beaten out by a better candidate? Maybe someone in the LA area is more familiar with that situation.
One random fact about him is that he actually sprang into action and helped save a drowning surfer which is pretty cool. Says a lot about performance under pressure if nothing else.
Sure, I'd consider one of those 32 places that had previously fired a family member.
I have a hard time believing Jim would tell his son to "stay away, they fired me!"
Why not hire internally?
there are two types of people. those that buy a boat after there first big payday/contract/windfall and those that don't.
Why not hire internally?
Don't be jealous. We won the Eastern European Cup in ought-four.
BTW, no way the Giants don't hire a coach with previous NFL head coaching experience.

When you were banned, did everything go black? Were you aware of where you were? Thanks B.

I didn't even realize I was banned until I read the appreciation thread. It was pretty funny. Got a good chuckle out of it.
His special teams have consistently been the best in the league. Also I believe the original poster is wrong when he says he was 0-3 as an interim. IIRC, he did win one game with the mess of a team that Jeff Fisher left him.

I’d look at it as the Giants were the only team to give him the opportunity.
